The one's here already have video games...but they're $2 a day and about 90% of the games they have a 100+ hour games, so it's cheaper just to go down to the local video store and rent a game for 7 days.

TBH that is in line with BB where a 5day rental is $8.99 and then, what, $0.99 a day after that? But yeah, I was sure hoping for better pricing from RB.

What is Redbox if you don't mind me asking?

It's like a DVD/Blu-Ray vending machine in grocery stores.

That's a pretty cool concept. How does returning the rental work? Insert it back in the machine?

You can get used copies of DvD's for like $5's. But if you get a use copy and decide to keep it, you have to pay the full amount.

Well, I don't use Blockbuster anymore 'cause they suck and I actually want to seem them die like Hollywood Video. I go to the local Hasting's here. They've got video games for $7.99 for 7 days and then, if your turn the game in the next day, you can get $4 in credit towards anything in the store, which is either a free movie or a $3.99. So...yeah...$2 a day = $14 for 7 days or I can rent a game for $8 for 7 days....

btw, they're selection is meh....they've got Brink (which flopped), L.A. Noire, Infamous 2, Lego Pirates and a dancing game for the wii.

It's not about selection, it's about convenience.

A friend of mine just got games in his red box and they are $2.00 per night.

$2.00 per night is a little more than what I rent games for per night but if I cant find the games I want at my local rental store, I will be checking a Red Box for sure!!

Just curious, if its a machine how does it ensure you bring the rental back on time or at all? Does it take a deposit for the full price and then refund you the money minus the rental cost when you take it back?

It just charges your rental cost to your credit card every 24hours until you bring it back or until you reach the cutoff where you essentially buy it.

Riiiiiiigggghhhhttt...I don't know about you, but I'm not made of money. It's about cost for me. And that was my point. Redbox is REALLY expensive.

 If you don't like it, don't use it. I'm talking about the business model here. I'm not commenting on whether or not it's affordable. It's for kids at the store with their parents who will go running over to the machine during checkout "BUT MOM IT'S ONLY TWO DOLLARS!!" and the parents just pop in the card anyways. This is the same crowd that pays four bucks for coffee everyday.

$2.00 per day is not too bad for the convenience. Blockbuster charges $9.00 for 5 days which is almost $2.00 a day. The bad part about Blockbuster is say you rent the game, then get home and find out you dont like that game. Pow $9.00 down the drain for 1 day. With the red box you would only use $2.00.

So far Family video is the cheapest way to rent games in my area especially if I get half off for the month. With the half off I can rent from Family for about $0.75 a day. It really doesnt get much more convenient than this.

But if the game you want is not in, then the Red box really is not bad at all for only $2.00 a day. This is going to be very successful.

I'm saying, for the games they have, which are 50% 100+ hour games, $2 a day can get really expensive. Gamefly is cheaper if you're gonna be playing a lot of $2 games.

RedBox video game rentals are a great deal if you are "on the fence" whether or not to purchase a game. I recently rented Duke Nukem Forever just to see how it is and then I returned it knowing that it is a game I am unlikely to purchase and I got enough of a look at it within 24hrs to be happy. It was well worth the $2 rental fee and very convenient. I am planning on trying Dirt 3 the same way....

Gamefly is better for the hardcore gamer that is going to be playing through the entirety of many games. Redbox is targeting a different market. I think it's a brilliant business model.

Exactly. If you are not sure you will like a game, this is a very convenient opportunity to try a game. I checked 2 in my area and they dont have games yet. The machine at Walgreens is just sitting outside. lol!

This is great for those gamers who buy a game and burn through it in one sitting then complain about how short it was.....

..took me 2 months of on and off gameplay to beat God of war. 3 years to beat Modern Warfare and 2 years to beat GTA4

I beat Homefront in 3 hours..though I would have to purchase the Battle code to get past level 5 on online...
