We can already build planes that can't be flown by a human. It's not that the technology to build it might exist, on paper (I'm still interested in tires that can handle 8g for a race, though), but whether anybody could withstand the punishment of driving it, or race organizers that might be concerned about spectator safety should the fan engine blow (but, this being science fiction, 100% reliable engines should be a given, shouldn't they?) and the downforce disappear suddenly.
Indy cars are already pushing the limits of what drivers can endure in turns, and blackouts and neck injuries are causing the tracks to be modified and cars limited. The X1 ratchets these problems up another order of magnitude. This is sci-fi, pure and simple. Until we breed a better, faster, more powerful human being, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, faster than a speeding bullet.... Hold on! THAT'S sci-fi, too!
Reality? Epic fail!
