rediculous trouble with avi's

i swear, ive tried for an hour and a half now to find a program that will play avi's, every .avi i download won't work in windows media or quicktime. I get sound but no image. someone recently had some drift videos on here in .avi format and i am getting so frustrated because i cannot for the life of me play them!

I'm trying to learn how to drift, but am having a hard time with no visual references.

anyone have a program that plays avi's or converts them to mpegs? or am i really just having bad luck and all the avi's are REALLY corrupt?

I've downloaded DivX Pro v5.03 and I've no troubles anymore with my .AVI's :trouble:

if your having troubles with divx\avi

download NIMO codec pack, and all the problems will disapear, seriously!

and of course now the new encoding of Xvid avi files

need to Xvid codec.

I get probs with some MPEGS sometimes too.
Windows Media Player won't always play them and Real player plays them but they are all scrambled up.
Suggestions?

No, I just wanted to know if the problems with avi's were the same as those I am having with MPEG's.

try another player - beside real and media.

if u can try powerdvd or RedLight. and make sure all codecs are installed. it could very well be an mpeg-4 (dvd) type mpeg.
