isnt directx 10 coming out along with that? DX10 is going to be big. its supposed to be much more efficent coding which means games will run faster for less power if you have a dx10 card and the game's made using dx10... at least thats what the articles say.

I can see you backed up your statement with some cold hard facts there, Flerbizky.
No - And I don't intend to either.. I'll let history speak for itself..

dX10 will be included with the Vista OS, and Microsoft might be holding the rights to produce hardware based on it for a higher dollar amount than usual. Basically, that means Video Card manufacturers are going to have to pay for the source of dX10.

Now, as for what Flerbizky said, I guess there's no real way to tell when it's actual release will be, but if we were going to go with what M$ has done in the past, I'd expect to see it in 4th Quarter 2006. With the exception of XP 64bit, M$'s OS release dates are about 1-1.5yrs after the first beta release.

I've heard the same rumours, and I seriously hope that won't be the case.

I think M$, should the try to make manufacturers pay to make compatible hardware, is about to shoot themselves in the foot.. With a thermonuclear weapon...

I can just see 8000 engineers (nVidia, ATI etc.), hardware and software, throwing their combined forces into a unified 3D architecture for Linux... Bliss...

Will a DIRECTX 9 card support DIRECTX 10?
Yes, but slowly as it'll have to deal with some of the functions in DX10 through software instead of hardware...
