Remembered one of the reasons that I stopped playing this game...

That's the same reason I'm kinda giving up on GT5 too, awful online.
But in my case it's the lack of competition, I qualify on top in 99% of races I do so I always leave my fellow competetors way behind. Free lobby is awful, you can't have a good race anymore. I remember the times when people like TEHNIKRS4, tony1311 and a few more used to join my server, at least it was competetive and just look at it now, awful.
Free lobby now is mostly 550pp on racing softs (what a joke) with ABS enabled, so it's just way too easy.
Because of that I almost always host, but there are days when I wait for over 1 hour and nobody joins, maybe people are scared of ABS 0 (ABS off is they way to race, adds lots of fun to the braking aspect), I don't know...
Also, it's a known fact that plenty of people don't know how to drive, yet alone race. I have a similar story from 3 nights ago - I joined a random server, 550pp Rome on racing softs () and as usual I was first throughout the race, now coming onto the straight before the chicane I went wide and hit the guard rail (first race, not used to racing soft tires ) so this one canadian guy caught up, we were neck and neck (I was first by half of the car) and he keeps going for a pass completly ignoring the fact that we're approaching the chicane (a no pass zone on Rome), so I did a reasonable thing - kept my line and he crashed into the wall. Why should I back off because of someone else's stupidity? It's not real life that I have to do it.
Seriously though, many people in free lobby seem as if they lack gray matter in their brains.

It's not always possible to get a room running and successful with "good" settings. I guarantee most people don't have time to create and support a room, it can take hours at times to get something going.

Make a good, enjoyable room. They will come.

Kinda hard when I don't have hours to spend. Which is the point I'm trying to make. Timezones can also be a factor and when the room is made. However due to varying tastes in the online world it is very difficult to get a room running with your own specifications and especially if it's not on the Nurburgring with 550-600 PP.

Exactly. I can jump online and get a few races in. Sometimes I find good rooms. More often then not I find rooms full of bad drivers. I really don't have the time to devote to setting up and policing my own room.

I'm going to jump back to my original issue here... It's getting people to understand that there's the right way and time to make a pass and there's a wrong way and time to make a pass. On any track. The Nurburgring Just compounds the issue because its a very narrow track with lots of turns. That's what I wish people understood about that track...

I like that! You understand "Do's and Don't's" of passing and can recognize a competitors correct or incorrect use of the racing line and race him accordingly 👍

shuffle races, which means non tuned cars with stock tires, with SRF turned off. Takes less than a minute to find one with 10+ players.

Yeah. I've got lots going on in my life. I don't have hours to devote to GT5 unless it's in the middle of the night. At that time, there isn't much online racing to be played.

I'd love to run 450-500PP races at Spa or Monza a lot more often but you just can't get races with a good number of cars, consistantly, on most other tracks.

I thought when PD added Spa, it'd be right there with the Ring as far as number of online rooms was concerned. Nope! I can hardly find Spa rooms that attract the number of people that the Ring does.

I do not even bother racing in peoples public rooms anymore unless they are my friends hosting. I don't bother hosting rooms anymore, everyone complains about everything! There's a button that solves all your problems!

Just 10 minutes ago I had a room up that was more fun than one could describe..
Recommended Car Racing was the theme tonight. Appropriate tires for each car were given out.
And all 14 drivers at all times were clean.

Absolute blast it was.

No offense but this is also part of the problem in online racing. Guys who proclaim to be so fast, so skilled, so fair and yet when you have a choice to hold a line you know will probably wreck someone that's what you do. Would it have killed you to just back off and let the guy have the pass? Did you need to win so badly that he had to be put into a wall when you had the power to help him avoid that? It's not always about what you have the "right" to do, but about what you "choose" to do. You assume he's "stupid". Are you a mind reader? Maybe he's 12 years old. Maybe it's his first night online. Maybe it's his first shot at winning and he's a little excited. Or maybe no one has ever taught him where it's appropriate to make a pass or not.

Not everyone is an expert at every track and not everyone that does something ill advised is "stupid". You think it's reasonable that you held a line that caused someone else to crash, which is about as reasonable or perhaps less so, than him trying to pass you in that section of track to begin with.

I think ABS=0 is not popular because it's so poorly modelled within that game that you can't run consistent laps with consistent braking without playing the game for hours a day, which most people don't have. Believe it or not, most people just want to jump on and enjoy racing for an hour or two then go back to their real life, not spend hours and hours a week learning a skill which will only be used once in a while in the rare room without ABS.

:dunce: Have I seen you some where?

lol

In front of you yes.

What are you talking about? With all due respect, your post doesn't make much sense at all. This isn't a discussion about using aids or not. It's not a thread about GT6 or NFS. You should re-read the whole thread.

Yes my comment does make sense. You expected to get a race with experienced drivers, but wound up getting a crash. Your problem was that there were too much drivers without the experience to drive clean. However, as this is a game for everybody, you will have people not being good in racing, and also people under the age of 10 (altrough you have to be 3 years old to race). A reason might be that this is not a hard game to access. And I guess, that people who do not buy this for the realism, which in GT5 isn't really there, but for the purpose to race for fun with all those cars. They do not have time, money or skills to be a perfect driver. Otherwise they would have an actual simulator.

That made a lot more sense.

Good point. This is a game for everyone and everyone isn't going to drive like me and know the "rules of racing" like me. I just wish there was another way to race people who drive clean and know the rules. It's an arduous process of taking the time to meet a solid group of good racers and then create private rooms where everyone will be clean and fair.
