...If Nissan was smart, atleast IMO, they need to position the car a bit further down the scale of sportscars. Shoot for pricing in the high $50K range (maybe) and give the performance of the Corvette Z51 or BMW M3 and they would have a better chance of recieving more credit. But with the Z06 and Viper looming overhead, it is a VERY tough sell to folks who aren't die-hard Nissan or GTR fans to begin with.
The R34 GT-R is already as powerful and as fast as the M3, Nissan have made it quite clear that now the gentlemens agreement is over they want to use the nex GT-R to it's full potential, there's no point in having the GTR only a tad faster than the 350Z which lapped TopGears track in the same time as the standard M3. The Nissan GTR will and should be faster than the Gallardo, it will be cheaper than the Ford GT too, and if it can keep up with that then that's something. It probably will fall shy of the Ford GT, but on a track most GTR fans would be dissapointed if it couldn't beat a Gallardo.

I'd dissapointed if it couldn't beat the Gallarado either. The performance of that car, although good, isn't what most folks were expecting. The Ferrari 360 and F430 walked all over it, quite easily, and even the "baisic" Z51 Corvette does it for a quarter of the money here in the US.

Nissan will probably be smart and figure out a good way to get the car out for a reasonable ammount of money all while packing in the performance at the highest extent possible.

'ring times suggest otherwise, as do 1/4 times.

The Ring is a pretty fast track mind, check out times on a smaller tighter circuit and it's the other way round.

^ Exactly. When it comes to all-out speed, obviously the Lambo is going to have an upper hand in many circumstances. While I would consider the Nurburgring a great overall testing ground in most circumstances, tracks like Grattan and Road America can also give some very important data as well.

I really hope if they put it up in Z06 price range that they know what they're doing.

The 350Z is an awesome car, til you look at it's price tag, and notice that with the right options, in the track model, it's knocking on base Corvette price territory, and totally out of it's league.
