SuperGT and FIA GT races use rolling starts

at 1:00

GT5 seems to use the same camera angles on Fuji :)

They do 1 warmup lap and then rolling start - the GT300 class lags behind a bit

Yes but they are proper side by side starts not the daft single file starts of GT5P.

Do SuperGT races have rolling or standing starts in real life?
With official licences I think they will keep to the official rules of the series too...

I think we should be able to choose rolling or standing plus the distance and how may cars in a row in arcade mode.

Standing starts are more fun, and potentially separate the field less. For career mode I would like to see a mix though, determined on the series it's supposed to portrait. I would like the lesser series to be standing start at least.

In online private lobbies, you should have control over what type of start you want also.

Rolling starts. There are quite a few examples on youtube.

Even some of the series that do standing starts do rolling starts in the rain for safety purposes. I hope it's an option, but if it's not than I hope the game does what the closest real life series does.

Standing starts are more fun? I don't see quite that way. What I have found is more accidents happen from Standing Starts than from Rolling because of all the darting around to avoid somebody that had too much wheel spin or missed a gear on the upshift.

I suppose you watch BTCC since your in the UK and I watch it quite a bit. WTCC seems to always have an issue going into turn ONE cleanly no matter which track it is. Street Tracks usually have a slow and narrow turn one, magnet for accidents.

This happens sometimes in Pro Race Driver and like I said this is the Chicken coming home to roost for Simulation freaks, all this demand for dented fenders, flying body parts and I'm sure damaged suspension will surely regret that demand once they are punted into the wall, break the suspension in a online race and you have to sit it out...

I can guarantee you that you won't have many if any standing starts in inclement weather. Those wet-weather tires are great, but the cars are so powerful that, even with those tire, they'd take a bit to build up grip and it would be a snail's start and probably end with half the field facing the wrong way. No, in the rain, you'd use rolling starts even if you normally used standing starts.

Rolling starts can be equally as dangerous considering that they are at racing speed already and cars are the most cloesly-packed at the start of the race.
I'd say standing starts are more likely to seperate the field before turn 1 than a rolling by virtue of people stuffing it through wheel spin, stalls, etc.

I have seen many BTCC (and other standing start series) races manage turn 1 cleanly.

Turn 1 will always be a gamble regardless of starting procedure. I will agree standing tends to cause more incidents but its not black and white difference, just a higher chance.
I enjoy both starting procedures, but standing is more interesting just because it requires an additional skill of managing your start and picking your first lap strategy carefully. Standing also gives the guys at the back a chance to make up for a bad qualifying, whereas rolling tends to really kick them back, especially with 1 by 1 rolling like in Prologue.

You should look at this, then...and watch more racing besides NASCAR

yeah, all the racing I watch uses Rolling Starts (save the occasional V8 Supercars and SCCA World Challenge race)

That was right off the top of my head, and it was 1 in the morning, so I was not thinking right, and I am in America, the only one of those series that shows here is IRL to my knowledge.

Grid start is the way to go, especially when your going to be racing in high horsepower GT-Rs like I will :D

Do you follow the FIA GT Class racing? The GT1 class has two teams deploying GT-R cars (Sumo Power team! one of my favs! :) ).
In this class of racing they use a rolling side-by-side start. I hope that would be in GT5 to make the game more realistic!
:)

anyhoo...I really really hope GT5 at the least has side-by-side grid starts and that it can be chosen by the host for any race on any track.

I saw double grid starts in some of the E3 demos

That's news to me. Was that just for NASCAR or other events too?

That would be odd. NASCAR doing a standing start on a large oval.

It was a double grid rolling start, meaning they were side by side but still moving.

I don't quite get it why you are talk about it. EVEN in GTg5P there were grid starts (online). And in gt4 Grid start was common start of the race.

Old Le manss start is soo awasome ;)

If the rolling start is good enough for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it's good enough for me!

Give the ancient Le Mans start, running like hell to your car and dodging LMP1s trying to run you over.

Hehe, we'll see that alot online in GT5. :)

I admit to never doing much online racing on GT5P and the events I did race were all rolling starts, so it was my assumption that Grid starts were all but done away with. With most of the demos also starting with rolling starts, I figured GT and their fancy new physics required rolling starts.

Was just excited that Grid starts were finally alluded to.

That would ROCK! Like you have to mash your control buttons to make the driver run to his car and get strapped in before peeling off!

I want grid starts for events that use them in real life and rolling for the events that use rolling in real life and fantasy events to use grid if possible.

Both would be pretty good, the only problem with the rolling starts that i have seen in GT5:P is that it is single file. If the rolling start was 2 cars across it would be fine. But i do prefer standing starts.
