It's part of the experience. You say it's okay to miss one small things, but these small things add up to one big chunk missing from the experience.

Yes, NFS: HP2 had reverse lights, I thought it was cool. Hell, the game was awesome...except the arcade part...

Take it as a suggestion, but honestly this thread is kind of like argueing that white wall tires are better than standard tires, when in reality it has no affect on the tire, only the visual aspect of it...it's just something that isn't important. This thread would not even be here if it weren't for Forza hyping up the fact that they have backup lights...I mean seriously, if the game has to rely on backuplights as a main point the how strong can the game play be? I play racing games to race, not to gawk at backup lights....

Regardless if it's useful or useless it's in real life then it should be in a real driving simulator.

If you think about it...if you don't put one little thing, then why make the whole game, or the system, or a tv, or OH NO I'VE GONE CROSSEYED....

There's always room for improvement on each new installment in the series.:)

Reverse lights are on road cars in real life. SOoooo....They should be on the cars in GT4. It's quite simple actually.

It's not a matter of pressing concern, but it is a little discomforting.

So your reasoning would be that cars in GT4 could do away with side mirrors as well, since they don't do anything to the gameplay?

Hello all! my first post in the forum...

Well, reverse lights are just little details that add to the whole experience of the game, I think. They don't actually add much to the gameplay, but if you want a realistic simulator, they should be added. Someone might say that there's no use to add them since you're not going to be watching them at all, but, take this, for example: When you're driving a car, you don't drive it from the ouside, you drive it from the inside, and all you can see is the dashboard, the seats (when looking sideways, backwards), etc. So, why model the whole car?

NFS:PU even had the blinking emergency/turn lights, and I thought that they were a cool addition... obviously, I wasn't going to watch them while racing, but I watched them all the time in replays...
I think people just have different points of view; for me, it would be a nice addition to the game, just as the flying sparks were in GT3... if they can put them in, and they don't mess anything up when you're playing, then, no problem...

By the way, sorry if I can't make myself clear sometimes... English is not my native language, but I manage with what I know...

lol, you guy's just kill me, always in an attempt to win an arguement for self satisfaction and twisting words.

This is my point. Reverse lights not in game, big whoop. It is not such a pressing issue, nor is it a reason for even SLIGHT discomfort when playing the game.

It's just childish to nit-pick like this, for more than a few reasons, simply because you are always unsatisfied, and children refuse to take thigns at face value, it's never "good" enough. Point blank to complain about these little details is just redundant and stupid, I see no reason to carry on a conversation about it, it's just anothe complaint for someone who cares more about details (extremely little ones, even though polyphony gave you damn near everything else you HAVE to complaing about something...pathetic). Point is polypohny went out of their way to put a ton of work into something that is running on a limited system and pushed out an AMAZING game...and STILL there are arrogant bastards who complain...it's just really upsetting...because a lot of people are so unappreciative...bah...this is my last post here, :) this is aggrivating.

Nobody said your opinion was not right. You can throw opinions back and forth. If you want to get all flustered and leave go ahead.

Ya know, I'm surprised so many people want to see reversing lights! It's a minor thing. We won't know until PD releases a screenshot of a car going backwards. But seriously, why do you want reversing lights? They won't make or break the game if they're in there or not. I'm beginning to wonder because I'm pretty sure most if not all of you are so good at Gran Turismo that there is no need to go backwards (unless you spin ... and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt in saying I don't think that's common)! Or does someone here like to drive around backwards? Who and where are you?!

i want reverse lights because i drive around on the test course and do burnouts and just muck around in my car i did this in gt3 and i will do it in gt4 so i want them just a nice little touch. any way whats so hard about making reverse lights? it wouldnt take much time or graphical detail

As I've said, I've never seen reverse lights in racing so why bother? The only exception is if you're racing a pure stock car and haven't given it the racing mod treatment. I haven't even seen such lights in rally racing. Haven't seen it in BTCC action. So to make this simple... I don't think it's going to happen. I think I may have seen emergency lights on race cars, but not reverse.

Don't call what you can't see, I say. The reverse light thing is not going to happen either with the stuff I discussed, or if Gran Turismo 4 provided a defensive driving school or even a driver school (DRIVER, not racing). And not to be rude, but if GT4 doesn't have it, don't tell GTPlanet that GT4 is the biggest disappointment just because of a few freaking reverse lights not being in it.

I don't think he knows this is a forum for discussion. Or maybe he just doesnt get it.

The cars in GT3 all would have working reverse lights but they took out the wiring to save weight. And if you want reverse lights why not turn signals? I mean real cars have them so how can they call it the real driving simulator with out turn signals???

P.S. Creep666 I'm being sarcastic ;)

Okay this is my thing...

Polyphony went through great lengths to make this game outstanding as a stand alone driving simulator. From the amazing back drops, to the pit crew, the spectators, the drivers in the car, amazing lighting, hell I'm pretty sure the PS2 will break a nice sweat with this game.

But even with all of the extra work to put in things that didn't affect the game just because the fans wanted it...STILL they nit pick about reverse lights...and to me it's upsetting because I know exactly how a lot of the development team would feel if they saw this.

Annoyed.

Most of you have no clue the work that goes into something like this, you can only guess, but texture work, as well as modelling etc, is not something that just happens, they did a lot of work to make this game look awesome, and give you those little extras for no reason, i.e. pitcrew etc...and still you are mad because there is one detail missing...and it's not even CLOSE to a major detail...it's extremely minor, EXTREMELY minor...so that is why is it upsetting to see so many people complain instead of being satisfied that they are getting an outstanding piece of software.

Be satisfied, because it could be worse, and it doesn't get a whole lot better.

Ok here's my take on this subject, GT is known for not having reverse lights, as I said it's like a damn trademark. It's stupid, it's annoying but it doesn't exactly make the game rubbish from what tha_con is saying, we appreciate PD and the time they've taken on GT and the extras they've incorporated and honestly I think they would laugh rather than be upset that people are actually agreeing with them in leaving out one simple aesthetic that every roadgoing and most race cars have. It's as if cause it's not in GT then it's not needed at all. This of course is total bull****. Rally cars DO have reverse lights, watch spectator caught films and you'll see rally cars reversing out of ditches and bushes with the spectators' help. Touring cars and GT cars have reverse lights, sure they don't really use them as the best way to face the right way is plant your foot and do a 180 but it still doesn't mean they can't be used.

As I have said those who are blatantly arguing about not having reverse lights have basically accepted that it's something that's in GT, no other racing game just GT. And to me that's hilarious, as something so stupid and minute that should be included in GT and is in every other racing game that deals with cars, has people defending them and saying they're not needed.

That's funny. :)

Its annoying and strange that the cars in, The real driving simulator, dont has reverse lights!?

But as long as theres no ''Parking Race Mode'':dopey: ;) i dont really care!!!

I totally agree with that. 👍

Nothing I or anyone can say can top that. Thanks for that, you just proved yourself. 👍 :)

How can a screenshot tell if the car is going backwards or not? :odd:

If its reverse lights are on. Duh!

lol, I'm sorry I did not realize that next to african american, hispanic, asian, cuacasian, there stood the next race...English.

It was a joke, being that most tuners in england are extremely picky for no reason, i.e. Top Speed (the absolute most biased tuner on television..world wide).

And I'm not defending polyphony, I'm simply stating that in any game, the exclusion of reverse lights is nothing major, especially in a racing game. Had this been "Don't break the law turismo" and you got tickets for having your backup lights out...I'm sure that my opinion would differ...but it's not.

Bigoted comments based on a person's geographical location or circumstances of birth.

"African American", "Hispanic" and "Asian" aren't races - unless you truly believe that everyone from Asia is of one single race. They could conceivably be "cultural identities" though. Then again, "cuacasian" isn't a race either, but only by virtue of poor spelling.

England is not the UK. The UK is made up of four discreet territories (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales), with a smattering of semi-independant island groups (Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney and Sark).

Following on from that, I have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about when you say "most tuners in england are extremely picky". Upon what do you base this? What relevance does this supposed information have to the presence/absence of graphical niceties in a computer game? Who or what is "Top Speed" and why is their point of view anything to do with anyone else's in England, the UK or Europe?

If you don't agree with someone, fine. As far as I'm aware no-one's said that GT4 would be rubbish without reverse lights, so I don't know exactly who it is you're disagreeing with. But don't start attacking people who you don't agree with. Either get your point across in a constructive manner, or don't bother. I've just looked over your past history and you weren't doing badly until you started in this thread...

It's amazing to have Famine around.

He can express things more clearly than I ever could.

Reverse lights might seem to be a detail, but implementing them for hundreds of cars (with the level of graphical excellence GT is known for) must take quite a few hours of hard work. Hours spent implementing something utterly pointless in my opinion.
