I downloaded Richard burns rally. PC of course ;) SShhhhhhhh. dont tell anyone.

Awesome game, looks real. In the replays, and the game i suppose, you can see the vegitation sway in the air, gives great depth of field sence.

The driving is so real. It takes so much concentration to stay on the road. it is almost impossible to do a whole stage without screwing up somewhere. Damage is not to bad either. If you set the damage to realistic, one good crash and your done, its so difficult. The only thing i complain about it is that theres not enough stages, theres only about 30 +/- stages, you find yourself doing a lot of them over and over again.

hmmm - that sounds a lot like a real rally - they redo stages all the time.

Also, I hope they release it for PS2 because my laptop doesn't do so well with graphics-intense games (or opening up microsoft word for that matter!)

They should because they asked an ESRB rating for the PC, Xbox and the PS2 version.
I already purchased the PC French version at least 2 months ago here in Montreal ( the booklet is in French, but the install process allows you to install a 100% English version too+ there is a PDF version of the complete manual in English ).
The PC version is great, very difficult to master ( like GPL ) . I expect the PS2 version to be a little easier.

Please sum up what it said on the site. It still amazes me that we don't see any rally here in the U.S., it seems like a sport that we would love if they would bring it here. I still have yet to see a rally race or a rally game.

There is quite a bit of rally shown on Speed - but still not as much as I would like. There are also rallies held around the U.S. - the most popular would probably be SCCA pro rally. Also, the original WRC came out for PS2 in the U.S., but that game sucked. There is Collin McRae rally for XBox out in the U.S. and others I am probably forgetting.

www.wrc.com - go there and you'll see why the rest of the world loves rally.

Don't expect the PS2 version to be any easier than the PC version.

I have the PAL PS2 version and the PC demo, virtualy no difference between them.

RBR is without a doubt the best rally sim on the market, on PC or PS2.

I really do hope that it gets a PS2 NA release, because its an amazing game.

DRIFT GOD
does it still have the features they were advertising, like the crowd helping you roll your car back over ???

FEATURES

TRAILER 1

TRAILER 2

Just checked out the features trailer and yes all of that is in the game, including the crowd assistance.

It is hard to describe just how special this game is without playing it; but when you first start out on the championship mode (in rookie mode but with real damage) your heart will be pounding just to reach the end of the stage. With the damage set to real, getting to the end demand total concentration and you will place towards the bottom of the grid.

The damage model is by far and away the most realistic I have ever come across, hit anything head on and more than 30mph and the radiator will crack and within a short distance the engine will overheat - stage over.

True, not than many stages (and as someone pointed out the WRC is just like this - reuseing stages), but they are on average twice the length of stages in the WRC or Colin McRae games.

The PC version ( I have it ) is for real racing sim freaks ( I'm sure the majority of RBR owners own Grand Prix Legends too and MUST have a wheel ) while the PS2 port of RBR must be playable with a PS2 dual-shock controller ( only a minority of PS2 owners have a wheel ) that's why I thing RBR PS2 version would be a LITTLE more forgiving. Just my opinion.
Well of course if you have both versions I must trust you, it's my theory vs. your facts :)

RBR on the PS2 is almost impossiable to play using the DS2, yes you can just about nurse the car to the end of a stage (but I can do that with a controller in GPL); but as far as competative times and actually feeling like you are in control of the car a wheel is a must.

I still find it quite amazing that a pure driving sim has been released for the PS2 and for me its a step in the right direction.

The version I would hav eth most worries about would be the X-box version, playing the game as is, without a force feedback wheel I just can't see being done.

If any version is going to get 'dumbed' down it may be that one, just like with Toca Race Driver 2, only the PC and PS2 versions got the optional Pro-Sim mode. The X-box version just had the standard handling and control method, the rumoured reason Codemasters did this was the lack of a force-feedback wheel for the X-box.

Imho the PS2 version should have printed in big red characters "Absolutely requires a driving wheel " so the consumer wouldnt be misleaded when he expects a more arcadish game.
That would avoid the same kind of problems as PC games when the "minimum system specs" are so low that your game turns into a slide show.

Quite right, I wonder how many people have bought this game and never been able to get past the basic rally school; let alone advanced.
