Ok ive got full version of rbr.

In options rbr has made my 900 degree dfp a 540 degree wheel(I can turn more but there is a big resistance at the lock :) )...

RBR is simple amazing, i dont believe that you couldnt clear a corner without hitting a tree Cosmic.. RBR is just amazing :D

kamkor, I d/l the drivers but when I lunch the config. prog. it see like Driving Force (not Driving Force Pro)
When I try to calibrate the wheel the lights on the wheel are on but the computer don't see it when I push or steer... :(

It ONLY SHOWS driving force, so everything is alright.

ps. Cosmic: You really sucked then :sly: Im already competive in proffesional season in rbr :dopey:

I tried Richard Burns Rally and have to say it is the most amazing game I ever played. Cars handle so extremly right its crazy. It just 10 times better than Colin 4 fake physics.
And I dont find it difficult at all...you just have to take it easy. There would have to be something very wrong with someone who find this undriveable. I played it with wheel of course as it is simulation. I waited for this kind of game for years and its finnaly here....

Im in heaven now :dopey:

Just practice ....joy will come later ;)

Here is one guy who had similar thoughts

I can tell that this game is plain ****ty crap. I have never seen as bad handling as Richar Burns Rally has. It's almost impossible to keep your car straight in this game. You move thumbstick a 0.0000001 millimeters to left or right and your car spins or rolls. That's just crazy. This game gets 55/100 from me.

Then few hours later....did some practicing..

Hmmm, I have to take my words back. My new points for this game: 90/100 The more I play this game the more I like it. Once you get in touch with handling, it's really great. Maybe too sensitive but you really can't judge this game if you don't play it a bit longer. This game really needs some practise until you get in it. Feeling of speed could be better though.

:dopey: :dopey: practice man...this is serious game...first simulator on PS2

Is there any information regarding whether Dick Burns Rally will reach America? I've searched several game sites, and only find limited information on it.

This game looks very good, and the reviews seem good enough.

And what the **** were Richard Burns' parents thinking when they gave him his first name?

I've never used a wheel with my Playstation but I'm seriously considering looking into investing in one.

Can anyone make a recommendations as to the best one to get as I'm finding RBR hard to control with a joypad but it's great fun nonetheless and extremely challenging.

dcr22B: Logitech Driving Force Pro :)

Rbr is just made for this wheel and it has support for it :). You can set range of the steering, im using 540 wheel degree rotation(just like in the newest wrc rally cars).. But you can change it to 900, 580, 360, etc. :) Your choice ;)

It's not that hard to handle richard burns rally with a joypad. I've managed to win the championship on champion level with realistic damage with the DS2, and complete all the richard burns challenges. I suppose it's a matter of personal preference.

I know I'm a bit late, but I picked up RBR for the ps2 today.
It only cost me 29 euros ( new games cost around 60 here)

I played the whole day. I used the dfp with realistic damage, MT, and all possible aids turned off.

I knew this game was going to be hard, so I started out with the rally school, which I completed after a while. I've also driven a few of the tarmac stages, and i did the GB rally. great fun :)

Conclusion: This game is hard as hell, but that's what makes it fun to me. I 'll be practicing a lot the next couple of weeks.
physics are 👍 , graphics are OK to me , sound is good , ...

The only thing I didn't like was the cockpit view. It's positioned in the center of the car and shows a part of the dash with nothing on it. No gauges, no roof,... It looked kinda crappy. :yuck:

Great game for hardcore sim-fans

Good for you Kay-Tek. This game is STILL the only rally game choice for a sim fan. I bought it for my Xbox (better gamepad for racing games) when it came out in Europe. And I still love it and play it regularly. In fact, I've recently become interested in getting the game for my PS2 instead and buy the DFP only for this game. Usually I get along fine with a regular gamepad (plus it's nice to be able to just lean back and put your feet on the table), but rally games in particular benefits loads from a wheel. So um... this game still holds my interest, to say the least.

richard burns rally is a proper rally game its the best by far way better than that peice of **** colin mcrae rally 2005 game i brought it a couple days ago played a few stages and went and got my money back that **** is straight garbage.

RBR is great.
WRC4 is great.
Colin Mcrae 2005 is great.

But all for different reasons...

yes! thank you!

WRC4 is great because it has offciail everything and is fun to play due to not being as real as RBR

CMR2005 is great because it has a great career structure great graphics and is more for arcade people so has high fun factor.

RBR is great if you like hardcore simulation, long stages dead real handling etc.

I didnt like RBR due to its lack of stages and the graphics, it was like the console couldnt handle it, major lag in some places.

I've been playing this game for a few months now and I can honestly say I have a love/hate relationship with it! Some days I can drive like a master (with the DFP of course) and beat the Richard Burns Challenges, other days I can't drive for $@%^ and it pisses me to no end.

If you are using the DFP I would recommend trying something to improve your driving:

If you are using 450 degrees steering (default setting on ps2) the sensitivity is normal because you are using 504 degrees of steering lock (as set in the car setup screen) over the 450 degrees of DFP wheel rotation.

But if you have set the steering to 540 degrees to simulate the wheel rotation it becomes a lot harder as you're controlling the same amount of steering lock over more wheel rotation, so to compensate set the steering lock to 605 degrees in the car setup, then you maintain sensitivity while achieving more lock if you need it (easier for scandinavian flicks, hairpins etc).

That said, I think the game is extremely unforgiving , especially when hitting potholes and bumps. Sometimes it seems as if hitting any object will cause the car to immediately pivot around it as if it's stuck to it with glue which seems a bit crazy.

A lot of unnecessary difficulty occurs because of the in-game views, they dont give you a good enough sense of judging distances in front of the car and if you brake a little bit too late it's all over.

I also find it difficult to gauge how the accelerator works eg. press it in a little bit in 1st gear and the car rockets to ~60km/hr and just stops without even reaching full revs, then hit second without changing the accelerator input and the car jumps forward to a higher speed again and just stops. Is this incorrect or is that how the turbo boost actually works in a real rally car?

Also with the DFP, the force feedback can be a bit much after several hours so I have found 60%FFB at the wheel and 60% "force feedback strength" in the options works best (feels weak at first but is more comfortable over several hours of intense play.)

Also this game tends to knacker the DFP a fair bit as you're constantly sawing the thing around (not so much if you're driving well :) ). I have found applying synthetic grease to the nylon gears works best for protecting the gears and smoothing and quietening the gears. Auto lubricants like WD-40 and RP7 also do a good job but are more dangerous to use as they are a liquid and can find their way onto the circuitboard!

There are a few things I dislike about this game:

The cars seem unable to cope with bumps (particularly when only one or two wheels hit them)

The brake bias feels all wrong, or there is too much weight transfer to the front because the cars swap ends under brakes too easily.

It needs a proper non-linear steering program (like GT4) to better simulate the response of the steering.

The cars seem to have a very high centre of gravity; they roll too easily which is frustrating.

And finally, the pace-notes are virtually useless. With such complex stages (which I applaud) the notes needed to be individually written and timed for each stage rather than trying to use a stock list of calls.

Now before everyone goes off and says to me, "You just hate it because it's hard; this is a realistic simulation etc etc"

I drive a Subaru Impreza (Group N) in real-life rallies and it is far more stable car and easier to drive at speed than the cars in RBR. I have never driven a WRCar but they are an even more capable car than mine so they should therefore cope better with the bumps etc. You only need to watch WRC footage showing WRCars and Group N cars for comparison to see this is true. WRCars just float over bumps.

Having said that, RBR generally does a very good job simulating the rally environment. The stages are the best in any game, the setup options are exhaustive (probably too much so), and the damage is relatively realistic. I am glad this game was developed, the genre was crying out for it.

Now we just need RBR2 ( not likely given Burnsie's condition) to work on the details.

Oh, one more thing. I don't like how they modelled the cars' behaviour over the Mineshaft. You don't get THAT much air in real life, even though it's one of the most exciting pieces of road I've ever driven.
