Okay, I've had GT5 since March of 2011, and for the past 4 months I've been dealing with an enormous number of bugs/glitches in my game. Let me make a list of some of the things wrong that occurs in my game:

  • Game's music/sound cuts out
  • GT Logo stuck loading for a long time
  • Whenever I join a lobby, sometimes the car's engine noise cuts out, leaving only the transmission whine/tire squeal
  • The audio becomes "crackly" during low-mid/high RPMs, either my car or others
  • When I join a lobby, the loading bar becomes stuck at 50%, can still quit game
  • Same as above, but 70%, and I have to restart PS3, same with 40%
  • I join a lobby, the game finishes loading the lobby, but then freezes in the "driving options" menu
  • I join a lobby, it loads, go out in the pits, but it stays in a black screen (still loads chat menu); can still quit game
  • Same as above, but then screen shows "Gran Turismo 5" logo in the bottom right, can still quit; I can still hear the car moving around when I press the throttle, but can't see anything
  • I manage to join a race, but it black screens, either just me or everyone else has to quit. It might show the screen again, but the race has started
  • If above happens and shows the screen, sometimes the sky is black, but the ground is still the same color as day (only happens in day/night tracks)
  • In day/night/weather change tracks, a portion of the sky becomes pixelated like a broken screen
  • Sometimes when typing in chat, the game freezes, but I can still type in chat but it doesn't show anything besides the text going away when you press "enter"
  • Regular in-race freezes, such as when my F40's turbo kicked in, it just froze
  • Sometimes in big tracks such as the Nurburgring or la Sarthe, the game can't load the ground fast enough and I'm driving on air

Those are some of the bugs/glitches that happen to me in-game on a daily basis. And it's literally just making me want to break the disc in half. The disc is not badly scratched, just 1-3 scratches and that's it. This is annoying. Anyone know how to fix this?

Yeah a new disc may be in order.

i remember you talken about this sunday but didnt think it was that bad.

The scratches were in the outer ring of the disc, not in the inner ring.

And I can't get another disc, I've cashed out all my money on my wheel.

Those all sound like symptoms of a bad internet connection. Try playing without being connected to the PSN.

If it works fine, sign on and run a test in your XMB network options. If you're internet is low, or being throttled while playing, you'll see a few of these symptoms. For best results, hardwire your connection directly to the modem, skipping the router.

If you have to use the router, do a search on here for tips on improving your connection. If all else fails, contact your ISP.

And clear your system cache in the game.

Yeah, switch off your internet. If it still happens then it's your disc. If not its just lag from YOUR internet - not the games fault, sorry.

NAT Type 2, bandwidth high. Good internet connection. 3 scratches can ruin the game? This is just p:censored: me off. I'm now currently in a lobby, when we do shuffle races, the game is fine. But when we switch to spec racing, the game freezes, and I have to restart, miss the spec race, and wait to do shuffle again.

I almost never get disconnection errors, it's definitely the game.

Doesn't matter, they could still be vital

that's not the game, that's typical of a bad connection. might be trouble with another person in the room.

Does this happen if you host the race?
Have you recently cleared your cache?
Have you recently synced your trophies?
Have you recently updated your clock?
Do you dupe or mess around with your save file?
Do you use wifi?

Unless the scratches are large or deep, I doubt they're the cause. I'm willing to bet it's one of the above, or you are having trouble with your connection. Tough to diagnose, but I doubt it's the game.

fatboy ps3?

Does this happen if you host the race? I rarely host races.
Have you recently cleared your cache? I clear it everyday
Have you recently synced your trophies? No
Have you recently updated your clock? No
Do you dupe or mess around with your save file? No
Do you use wifi? Yes

Answered in the above.

Also, I use PS3 slim, it's about a year and a half old.

Try the 3 "No"s (hosting, syncing, updating but NOT messing with the save file), and failing that hardwire, or search for tips on a better wifi connection on here.

I've cleared the cache, updated the clock, and synced my trophies. Will get on the buggy lobby to test my results.

EDIT 1 - I'll update the results here.

^^This.

Whats you internet speed? From reading these forums 15mbs should be the least. Anything lower will give you problems such as; black screens, lag, no loading, game freezes etc. You have to remember, this game (as well as most others) rely on a constant internet connection, if it's buggy, the game will suffer.

If you are connected to the servers, GT5 will always send and receive data, if there's a problem with connection, the game itself will time out as well as the connection.

On another note, even the smallest scratch on the disk will give you issues. Blu Ray discs are so data sensitive (so packed into a small space) that any reflective errors will give you problems.

Solution, try running the game without a connection. If it works, then it's your internet connection giving the problems. Second, if that doesn't work, get a new disc (try a friends or something). You can sometimes work out a trade with the game store and they'll only charge you something little. I always get game disc protection, it's $3 at EBgames/Gamestop and it's lifetime.

It could be my connection, it's 3mbps (Pathetic, I know, AT&T, go figure). So, on the disc protection, do you just have to bring in the disc and get it replaced or do you have to buy it with the game?

EDIT - The lobby just froze, I didn't even get to race. It just froze.

You buy it with the game. You could always take yours in and see if they'll trade the disc. You'll still have to pay something but I won't be anything close to buying new. All they'll do is swap discs not covers etc.

Okay, I've noticed a few things. It only happens mostly in Nurburgring, Mt. Aso, Toscana (tarmac), and Circuit de la Sarthe (both versions). I'm talking about the freezing. Now, for loading, it happens in about 3/8 lobbies. Freezing is also in 2/8 lobbies, but in those tracks it's about 1/2 the lobbies. And in rooms with all black bars, and with all connection bars filled up, it's about a 1/4 chance, and it rarely ever happens in any lobby with in-between connection.

EDIT - The lobby is never letting me in the track anymore, it's just freezing every time now. I'll close the thread and just buy a new disc, this is stupid.

Get a cord. Its the easiest fix, and will make your life much, much better.

You should try the things people recommend in this thread. Before getting a new disk you should try to drive on these tracks offline. In case you did such a test I oversaw it (quickly read through this thread).
If your connection speed is 3MB/s, chances are high it is the problem. If you're using wireless connecting and have such a slow speed in general, a changing signal frequency along with the slow speed could lead to such problems. In that case you're in need of a wire or you'll need to contact your internet service provider.

You either need to replace your laser lens, clean your laser lens, get a new disk, or all of the above. I haven't heard of anybody with these problems so it might be just some dust on your laser lens (you can buy a cd for like $5 to clean it), or you might just need a new gt5
