You have never raced in your life! Managing your car settings makes the difference. What about NASCAR where all cars are equal you still think tuning is not important. Car set ups make the difference between winning and losing. Think about Team Nissan GT Academy winners, you think that some still "green" racers got third place on skill alone. Car tuning helped out there, not that they are bad racers. There were more skilled racers out there that they beat.

So if tuning is not everything "DUDE" how did they win? By what your saying 4 still new to racing (mind you they have not raced at these level before) had better skills than racers doing it longer. I think not.

You think you'd beat an experienced Pro Driver around the Green Hell in the same car but with better tune? Really? Well, you're wrong, Dude.

Again, you said, and I quote ''tuning IS everything''. I call total BS.

If you can't drive around problems, you'll end up creating more.

I never said I could beat a pro racer, but if you have equal drivers and the same car then tuning makes a big difference.

PS I'm done with you, you clearly don't know about racing and your being ignorant.

Oh, ok. It went from, ''tunis IS everything'', to ''if you have equal drivers and the same car then tuning makes a big difference''..

All I said was that tuning is NOT everything. You just basically said same thing, so we're in agreement now. I'll never lose that argument, ever, unless you have a tuning contest with no racing.

Not ignorant, but right. Damn arguing on internet on Mondays is fun. Better than work I guess.

For your posterity .. My post #22
The $$$ spent on the car and tuning seem to be 90% of the battle.. In road racing it still matters of course, but driver skill has more influence
Then you started arguing with me that it's EVERYTHING. LOL. Arguing over 10%.

Tuning ISN'T EVERYTHING dude. You think you'd beat an experienced pro around the Green Hell in the same car but with better tune? Really? Well, you're wrong.
But I wasn't really talking about F1. I'm not trolling, honest, but it's funny how much people defend something when they hear a different point of view. LOL. ''Drag'' racing... even sounds ****. How do people watch it on TV? I'm serious..
Even though a skilled driver may still do better in a poorly tuned car over a unskilled driver in a properly tuned vehicle having a properly tuned suspension, LSD, and transmission is a critical to getting the most out of your vehicle.

I completely agree.

Controlling a 3000hp car down 400m of road in under 5 seconds doesn't take skill?

Ok....

Lolwut? Please, take any car you want, fully build it, and go into a 1/4m lobby. Watch how the other car of the same sort will finish before you're even halfway down the track. Drag racing does take knowledge to tune. It's no different than any other racing, even running is racing in this context. You're tuning to gain even .001 of a second if you can, and that .001 of a second may be the difference between a loss and a win. And please watch an onboard of a top fuel dragster or funny car. They are the quickest accelerating vehicles in the world. The world's fastest planes don't even gain speed as fast and top fuel cars do. This is coming from a diehard F1 fan, who simply has an understanding and appreciation for all racing instead of ignorance for anything they seem "different".

Finally, someone who gets it.

I think he replied to the wrong person, though. Well, I know he did.

Well, I did but I didn't. Anyway, my Uncle used to be a mechanic for a funny car team when he was younger and the stories he can tell you about what drivers undergo are just as amazing as what F1 drivers undergo. He was even given the opportunity to drive a 1/4m in one of the team's cars, which he promptly slammed into a wall on the burnout, showing just how hard it is to control thousands of horsepower. If something like that doesn't convince you how extremely hard it is, try this:

Skip to around 2:10 to see the pass, and watch his hands. That's above F1 reactions in my book. An F1 car has nowhere near as much torque, nowhere near as much pure power, and way more downforce to help you out when the back end breaks free out of a corner. Here, it's balls to the wall pure skill every single time.

I've never seen such a thing. It looks insanely dangerous. It looked like he never had control of the car, which isn't true.

I just can't imagine having the balls to launch that.
