"Roadster" in Gran Turismo refers specifically to the Mazda MX-5/Miata/Eunos Roadster.

Roadster=convertible

1st time around I used the 350Z roadster.

Unless you're refering to the Roadster Endurance, that Famine is referencing above, which is any Mazda as he stated.

I used the suzuki GXR-4  I didnt think it would work....but it did

Roadster is not just all convertibles, they are two seat, rear wheel drive convertibles to more precise.
What is called a "sports car" these days.

Sports car- 2 seat, rear wheel drive, 2 door. (also roadster if convertible)
Sports coupe- front wheel drive or 4wd, 2 door, MAY have more than 2 seats.
Sports Sedan- 4 door sedan, any drivetrain, any number of seats.

The distinction between sports car and exotic is a fine line and more open to opinion. In MY opinion, exotics are high price, high HPand less available. (more than 280 ish HP, also open for debate)

Thus what is considered an exotic depends on where you are. Here, a 40,000 dollar lotus esprit would be an exotic due to availability while a dodge charger with factory charger kit would be an exotic in europe but only a classic here.

No, it wouldn't. Europeans don't call Chargers exotic ;)

With a factory charger kit it would..............there's only about 150 of them left if not less now and they run about 85-100 grand. There are four of them in europe that I know of.

Same way a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R in good condition would be an exotic here in the states. Dispite it's availablility in Japan.

Rare does not mean exotic. In the context of cars, exotic would take its second formal definition, i.e. " Intriguingly unusual or different; excitingly strange" (source: dictionary.com). The charger, to many europeans, is neither intriguingly unusual or excitingly strange.

No, he's right. We wouldn't call it exotic.

Car enthusiasts would call it "a muscle car". Old women would call it "a bloody noisy thing". No-one would say "exotic".

In fact, I'm struggling to think of ANY car we'd bracket as "exotic".

I believe the restrictions described a roadster to be a convertible, in which case...

Dodge Viper SRT-10
Shelby Cobra Series 1
Shelby Cobra ;)

I think you should really check out the Series 1 because it kicks so much ass. For a while, out of 50 cars between me and rival buddies, it was the quickest/fastest 300hp, 400hp, and 500hp car. It also rang up really good times at Nurburgring. I mean it man, the Series 1 will not dissapoint, and you'll find it quite useful later in the game.

so do i have to use a miata for the roadster endurance?
i'll probably figure this out before i read the replies though because im going to go play riiiiiight..... NOW

Yes Miata is your only choice for Roadster Enduro.

Going by that 280+ HP rule my cars an exotic its got about 315-350 (around there) and it's in extreamly good condition paid twice the price of others its age because of condition and money spent keeping the car perfect. Now who thats that it's classifided as an exotic???

Hmmm. So a Ferrari 456GT is only a sports coupe not a sports car 'cos it's got 4 seats? And a Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera 4 isn't a sports car due to its 4wd? And where does the 3 seat McLaren F1 fit in?

It's not a rule. It's one guys opinion.

To me an exotic is an expensive car made in small numbers by a specialist manufacturer.
For instance, a Ferrari Enzo would be an exotic yet a BMW M5 wouldnt be because BMW will make heaps of M5s yet Ferrari made less than 500 Enzos.

*jumps into the fray against his better judgment*

In my understanding, exotics constitute Ferraris and Lambos, and all other rare supercar models/brands, such as the McLaren F1, the Koeniggsegg (however the hell you spell that), and the Cizeta. They're exotic because they are rare, and because their styling and performance are something you don't see everyday.

Gotta echo daan on this one, you missed a few spots :) By your definition all sedans are sports sedans. Most car manufacturers would probably define as something like "any 4-door sedan with performance parts, such as stiffer suspension, performance-tuned transmission, etc."

Sports coupes cannot be RWD eh? Hmm. I think daan said enough on this one.

What's the difference between a sports coupe and a sports car with a hardtop? And no, sports cars do NOT have to have 2 seats. And they don't have to be RWD. Many 4WD sports car/coupes/whatever out there. Even a few FWD sports cars that would make the cut IMO (though I detest the drivetrain personally).

Your roadster definition is pretty close :) Strictly speaking, a roadster is any open-top 2-seater RWD sports car where the driver can touch the rear wheel with his hand (yes, believe it or not, this is how they originally defined "roadster"). Now most roadsters today don't fit that last bit, but the rest stands.

Sorry i was ment to say now who thinks that it's classifided as an exotic???
And its a 1987 Porsche 928 s4 sorry for not putting those things in.
And what about a 4 seater cabio with its engine in the back? what would you call that (To tell you that truth even I don't know)
DJ

4 seat cabrio with engine in the back would either be called a Proche or a VW Beetle

You're 14, remember?

Yeah I'm 14 but I really love cars and GT3 and GT4 are my faves games of all time along with Transport Tycoon. I like Chinny's answer of it's a VW or a Porsche but I didn't think many people consided VW's to be very sporty and definatly not as sporty as a Porsche, I wouldn't be suprised if a 1970 911 would beat a 1995 beatle hehe anyway what do you mean Famine by "You're only 14, rememeber?" I know I'm 14 and it's better than being 13

Okay. Let's stick everything together.

You're 14.
You claim to own a car.

Let's just check a few issues here.

1. Is it YOUR car, as you claimed? Are you the legal registered owner?

2. Did you actually pay for it, as you claimed?

3. Are you insured to drive the vehicle?

4. Do you have a legal driving licence for your state/district/country?

5. Is it legal for 14 year olds to drive in your state/district/country?

Be VERY careful how you answer these questions.

No to all these questions with the exception of of number 5. In Victoria it is legal to drive on your own property even without a licence. Alot of country boys you ask will have cars only for driving in the property called padock bombs. Probally half the guys in my class have one I hope that answers you're questions Famine

So basically you were joyriding then?

Nice.

Beetle?....1995?....Are you talking about an air cooled VW?

I wasn't saying the definitions were perfect. And yes, time has it's effect on them, that's why some cars today that you can't touch the rear wheel with your hand are considered roadsters in my book.

As for the 280+ hp.........hp doesn't make the car, but who knows of an exotic with less than that?

Just because the car has the name ferrari doesn't mean the car can't still be classified.
We've all listed pretty much anything kick-butt to be a sports car. But it wasn't always so.
A sports coupe........say.....made by ferrari, say 456gt may still be really kick-butt but it's still a sports coupe.

We've seem to have mixed EVERYTHING fast as a sports car. I was just pointing out that the term "sports car" used to be a classification just like any other, but we've muddled it and have used it too openly.

No, not all sedans are sports sedans. Just like I don't think a honda civic is a sports coupe.
Honda Civic coupe=family sedan. Honda integra= sports coupe................both have 2 doors, 4 seats and are FWD. But only one was built to be sporty.
Same with Sedans.

It's not an exact science as to what makes what classification other than the basic # of doors, seats and drivetrain criteria. Everything else is debatable.

And don't forget.............just because something is considered a "sports coupe" doesn't mean it can't kick the crap out of a "sports car". "Sports coupe" is by no means a belittlement of the vehicle, it's just another classification.....just like sports car.

So yeah, a ferrari can be considered a sports coupe. It's most likely an exotic one, but it's still a sports coupe. If ferrari made a minivan that hauls butt and is rare and costs a lot of money would it still be a minivan? Yes. It just so happens that it's a ferrari minivan. So why not sports coupe? or sports sedan?

I'll admit, I was wrong about the dodge charger with a factory charger kit. But the idea is still the same, if it's expensive, if it's rare, if it's fast, it's most likely an exotic.
And no, just because you add a upgrade to your car does not change it's classification.
Just because it has more than 280 horses does NOT make it exotic.
But chances are, if it has 280+horses, and it's expensive, and it's RARE. Than it will most likely be an exotic. (let me restate that..........the above with the addition of "and comes that way from the auto company")
