Rubber banding

I have noticed this "Rubberbanding" effect all throughout the game in A-Spec.

It is almost as though the AI drivers have no limitation on their strength and mental strength as they do in B-Spec (which dictates how well or fast the AI drives).

But this should be no surprise to anyone else who has noticed that the AI in GT5 leaves much to be desired. Maybe it will be improved in a future update. Here's hoping :)

not possible, the AI and lap times are fixed in those events
The AI is fairly fixed compared to the AI in A-Spec mode, but it still gets advantages from drafting.

You haven't seen real rubberbanding until you've played NFS: Hot Pursuit.

That game redefines it. 👎

17. I hope the rubber banding is limited to lower tier races. I'd hate to see it in endurance and expert races. The impact of it in a 24H race will be staggering if it's there.

Happens regularly on endurance, I'm 39 now and when I run an LMP in the 24h Le Mans I'll have a nice lead between the chicanes but at the last turn of the straight I see something in my rearview. And, no, I don't start braking after the second chicane lol.

It's called "boost" in online lobbies.

The rubberbanding is fairly extreme. I have wiped out three times in a race before and still managed to beat the lead car, but in other races on the same track when I'm running at my very best, the lead car is just seconds off of my tail. lol

Oh and: /me waits for one of those guys who always complains that someone didn't use the search function to complain that this is an old thread.

I never really experienced rubber banding working its dark magic against me.

And I do try to match the AI cars spec for spec.

Somehow I'm not reading rubber-banding especially the extreme kind. Here's the definition of rubber banding:

"If you have ever played a racing game and thought you were so far ahead that none of the CPU players could possibly catch you, only to have them make up a fifteen-second gap in three seconds, then you have experienced Rubber Band AI. This phenomenon is why a player racing against computer players can go from 8th to 1st and back again in Mario Kart in the span of a single lap. The term refers to the occurrence of AI-controlled racers suddenly accelerating faster than the character should be able to go, in order to close the distance between them and the player, as if a rubber band connected them and was pulling them back."

The great thing about GT5 is that you can check the segment/lap times of AI cars in every race. Provided you remove the first lap out of the equation (the cars at very front have the advantage of starting beyond the start line), but look at the the 2nd and successive laps. If the lap times are out of the ordinary than indeed there is rubber-banding.

From what I've seen- and I've done a lot of Arcade (Level A- Pro)- there's no rubber-banding. On the other, if it's Special Event, you should expect scripted races because that's how the races were setup.

Can't say I've really noticed it, maybe I'm just that good :sly:

But in all seriousness, I've seen what appears to be rubber banding in a few races. I was doing the real circuit tour seasonal on monza in my Toyota 7 last night. Got to the lead after a couple of laps rather easily, and started to pull away. You can imagine my dismay then when I realise that I can't go any further ahead than 4.5 seconds, even though my pace was still even to my first couple of laps.
