Famine got into Rubik's cube in another thread and I instantly got to think about the spinoffs it created in the 80's. remember the "snake" and pyramid cube? I liked the snake a lot, it could create a lot of different figures like birds etc.

I have a Rubik's Cube still in it's original packaging. I have no reason why I have this. I think my mother might have saved one for posterity. :odd:

Hope it's worth some money one day.

In it's original packing i believe it's worth some money already, so keep it and don't use it.

The middle one in the top row was my favorite.

Very interesting and mind boggling.

Did you ever take the color stickers off and match them all up again because you had so hopelessly screwed up the cube and there was no way in hell you would ever be able to get it back?

Well, sadly yes. A few months ago I had a rather reckless friend over and he took a Rubik's cube, that my father had done when he was around 20 years old or something, and screwed it up.

He sat there for about 15 Minutes saying "No, no i just about got it." But he kept digging himself deeper and deeper. So eventually I said "Just give it here" and he went home and spent the rest of that nigh meticulously taking off each and every sticker, applying some glue on it and replacing it back so that all of the colors were aligned once again. I did a pretty good job too I might add.

My father still hasn't found out to this day. :D

 another good way is taking a screwdriver and slit the pieces from the cube and then put them together again. I did that quite a few times...

Nah - I was from the 'pull it apart and put it back together again' school. You could operate them more quickly once you'd done that a couple of times as it loosened the cube up.

I had a snake puzzle - loved that thing. I think I broke it.

I remember I had a book from some young English kid who could solve it in 7 or 8 seconds. I could occasionally solve it on my own (in about a week).

:grumpy: my brother did that. Unfortunately they dont stick so well once they have been peeled off a few times, so now i have a cube that has black squared lying on all sides.

:irked:

Back in the day when it wasn't politically incorrect, I had a "polish Rubik's Cube".

It was all the same color.

Rubik's Snake and Rubik's Triangle... Mmm. Got both :D

I actually didn't mention the Rubik's Cube - I hated that damn thing, although my brother was rather good at it and still to this day uses his Rubik's Calender - a Cube with days/dates scribbled on it... Y2K proof! :D

I mentioned the Rubik's Magic - I preferred the 8 tile, 3 ring one to the harder 10 tile, 5 ring one though.

What I said in the first posts becomes here a perfect example of our need as humans to see context where there is none.;)

:D

I've got a Rubik's Pyramid somewhere (6, roughly 6-sided coloured pieces which slot together to form a Tetrahedron with 4 different coloured sides).

Der Alta... :D

I'll be honest... I've never successfully put together a Rubik's cube. I always get them ridiculously screwed up. On the upside, I've never taken off the stickers nor taken apart the cube itself! :p

What I particularly like are the ring puzzle thingies (don't know what they're called)... you know, where it's like two rings in certain shapes that are linked together, and you have to figure out how to get them apart? I can usually solve those within a few minutes.

I can get close but one stupid prick of a square is always wrong, I did the sticker thing and the screwdriver/pulling apart thing. I hate those things, anyone who can actually solve one should be given a large cash prize then given a doctorate in something. I mean if your gonna be a loser and figure it out you might as well get some benefit...
