yup it can be.

and please define "the best", the best fun? best handling? or best outright speed?

I have the yellowbird and loves it to death.

Yes you can paint it, my yellowbird is red. I know its called yellow bird but I was itching for a red Porsche and it looks the closest to a stock 911 turbo.

I don't have the 3400s, only seen it once at the beginning when I had zero credits, but the others are great, although the 4wd CTR2 is least fun. Yellowbird is best left unmodified imo, the big turbo ruins the response of the engine too much. I like to drive it on Comfort Softs but things can get a bit too smoky (which is saying something if you've seen that Nordschleife video, there's a whole lot of smoke, but in GT5 it's stupid how much smoke you make :) ).

RGT is great, even on comfort softs, loads of traction, balanced and fun.

Pity the RGT is quite ugly, and it's one of the poorer standard models

I didn't think it was that bad, although mine is black (I tend to lean toward painting cars black so the shadow flicker isn't as obvious), certainly it's nowhere near the Hommell level of quality.

He can't define it. Go look at his other threads.

First, don't bump your threads only minutes after you posted it. If you have something to add, use the Edit button.

Second, yes they can be painted and can all be found in the used car lot.

In a car enthusiast point of view, the CTR1 (A.K.A Yellow Bird) is maybe the most legendary Ruf of all times. It broke alot of records when it came out, but although it was more like a pure racing machine, it kept its elegance and daily driver friendlyness.

In my personal point of view, there is nothing like the BigTurboRuf. That thing has the looks, and all the go. It is harder to drive than the Yellow Bird, but if you learn how to dominate it, you can manage to drop a bigger turbo, make around 690HP, and the thing does´nt loose its "good balace" like other cars that don´t seem to handle big HP upgrates very well. And that turbo lag, you gotta love it!! it´s pure oldschool!! I haven´t driven it in GT5 yet, but it was my favorite Ruf in GT4.

I question the accuracy of an early 911 being described as "elegant" or any of them having much "driver friendlyness." :)

Their ain't a lot of driver friendlyness in any high-power RR car. :)

That being said, and despite my dislike for Porsches in general, the Yellowbird is my fave. It's at least got character. The later models just look boring. Plus, it's yellow. That garners major points right there.

I have 2 of each, apart from the BTR which I still haven't found in the used car lot. So far, the Yellow Bird is the most fun for me (power down and it slides all over the place) ... but the CTR2 is the fastest. I used that car for ages until I got the 1000bhp car with the rear wing that comes out as you go fast.

I can't remember exactly how much each costs but roughly:

CTR2 = 200,000 maybe 210,000
Yellow bird = 177,000
RGT = 135,000 (I think, not sure)

The RUF 3400s and BGT (i think it's called - it's painted light / sky blue as standard) are both under 100,000

I have all 5 and have to say that they are not perfect cars as standard (all of mine are equipped with sports soft tyres and ALL driving aids turned OFF) BUT, all of these cars can reasonably easily be tuned to over come any issues.

For instance:

RGT - doesn't feel ''fast'' but superb handling, just add a bit more power

CTR2 - spins front wheel on full acceleration in 2nd gear coming out of tight corners, I just tweaked suspension and LSD and adjusted power dristribution so a bit more power goes to the rear wheels than standard

Yellow bird - just take away grip from the front, and add grip to the rear, either done through suspension tuning or by having hard tyres on front, soft on rear.

Obviously, everyone has their own tuning and driving styles so this might not work for everyone, but this is what helped me personally...

Bought a Yellowbird a couple days ago, and went straight to the paint booth to paint it black. Yellowbird? Nah, Blackbird it is. :D

I have 2 Yellowbirds and a CTR. Used the CTR, stock, to beat Pro MR.

And after seeing CoolColJs video, I have to paint one of them light blue and stick a huge wing on the back. That car is so incredibly pretty!...

^ That's the colour it came with - I'm debating wether to repaint it or not :)
You know what's funny? I don't like Porsches in real life, but for some reason, I'm totally digging and lusting over the RUFs in GT5!

Some of the different colours

The type C wing is a bit over the top :dopey:

Got all the RUFs now. They've all got pros & cons, but have to say that i'm not all that fussed about the 3400

CTR Yellowbird (RWD): This is THE beast to be tamed in the game. Forget the X1 lol, if you can manage a sub 8min lap in an unmodified one of these with comfort hards, then you must be a good driver :) Keep this one standard and just buy a nice selection of tires to hoon about it. When you drive this car, just do it for fun and satisfaction - don't expect to be able to race this thing with any success!!!

CTR2 (4WD): Not my cup of tea. Have tweaked it with a new center diff and LSD but it just won't behave how I want. Will probably come back to this one as i've heard that it has potential with some tweaking - although i'm having too much fun in the others to be motivated yet!

BTR: Best of the bunch IMO. Bit more grip than the yellowbird and more predictable handling. Very satisfying to drive and IMHO the best of the RUFs. I ended up boosting the power to about 480bhp, lightened right it up and added a rear wing. Suspension is the same from what I remember. The thing is so sublime to drive now. The car puts down the extra power without sacrificing the original handling characteristics at low speeds. At high speeds I can now also drift more successfully due to the wing... anyone want the full setup, i'm happy to share - i may have also tweeked suspension, can't remember now

RGT: This is what I expected the RUF cars to handle like before I'd driven any of them. It's got much more grip than any of the others and can be drifted and driven normally with a fair amount of precision and predictability. Great car to initiate your new RUF obsession with ;) I have just boosted power on mine

3400: only driven it a couple of times, but it just didn't feel very porche like. Ended up modding the fook out of it to make it better but not found the best balance yet... probably gonna write this one off as a waste of time, unless anyone thinks they know a good mod formula for it

Cheers
Sunil

CTR2 (4WD): it just won't behave how I want.

No offence but there's been alot of threads and discussion about these two cars already, especially the Yellowbird.

If you use the search button in the top right hand corner you will find the threads for tuning the yellow bird and you'll see that it can be tamed.

Also there's threads and discussions on the CTR2 aswell, including advice on handling and grip, which seems to be the main issues on this car.

Pretty much everything you need to help you tune and setup these cars can be found on prior threads..

👍

Thanks Highlandor. Will look up the CTR2 tips when I can. Not really wanting to change the yellowbird tho - as per my statement "Keep this one standard and just buy a nice selection of tires to hoon about it. When you drive this car, just do it for fun and satisfaction - don't expect to be able to race this thing with any success!!!"

I have them all now, the BTR is awesome! I still think the Yellowbird is the most exciting to drive, but the BTR is probably the best all round while still being very exciting to drive!

I picked up a Yellowbird last night at the UCD, but haven't tweaked it or painted it (yet). I only had a few minutes to mess around with it....that thing is a beast to control if you plant your foot too heavy. I slid out a few times just messing around and having fun.

No offence my friend, but that's why I said look at the threads, people who have tamed the Yellow bird have found it to be extremely competative when racing..

It's a bit of a cult favourite, some people love it, some people hate it, some people keep it stock, some tune it, but like I say, sort out the issues with it and it can be at the front of the pack..

👍
