I wouldn't surprise me if its true seeing last seasons problems... but I don't see who could do a better job!

It would surprise me. Ron Dennis would not leave his career on this note, I think. He will not go down in a ball of flames like this. I can guarantee he’ll go down after a competitive season as one of the greatest team principles in the history of the sport.

As for who will replace him – that will be Whitmarsh. Ron has been grooming him for the role for years and has promised that Martin will be his successor.

McLaren and Mercedes dismiss news about Ron Dennis getting fired.

Spokesmen for McLaren and their engine supplier and partner have dismissed the news about Ron Dennis has been fired. An article in Marca said Martin Whitmarsh would replace the British veteran in the role occuppied by Dennis for almost three decades, after Mercedes, who owns 40% of the team's shares, got upset about the way Dennis handled the spy scandal.

"The news is purely a rumor," said a Mercedes spokesman in the German rado station RTL. "In fact, the status quo is still the same, meaning that the team's director hasn't changed." He added.

The spokesman from McLaren responded in a similar way, while Bernie Eccleston suggested that the rumors about Dennis leaving the team or being fired were an exaggeration.

"He isn't an employee," said Dennis to The Mirror. "He is a shareholder who has the internal support of the other shareholders."

Not Dennis' choice to stay or go... MB owns more shares and 'buyout rumours' are circulating, RD's days are numbered. Whitmarsh gave Mp4-23 unveiling presentation shoulda been RD. Mercedes wants him gone, the writing is on the wall if you'll look.

MB owns 40% of the shares therefore does not have the controlling vote. It would take the votes of either the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (30%) or Mansour Ojjeh (15%) to oust Ron at McLaren. Ron will leave when he decides he wants to retire.

MB has more shares than Dennis AND supplies the engines. Buyout rumors picking up speed... stand a little closer to the wall and you can read the writing. It's not hard to see who has deepest pockets, after 100 million fine McLaren appear vulnerable.

A fine for McLaren is a fine for Mercedes. Mercedes only 'supplies' engines to itself. It doesn't matter how many shares you have, if you don't control more than 50% of the shares then you can't call all the shots.

Mercedes didn't cheat, Dennis was proven guilty. That's the 'rub'... his embarassment to Mercedes will cost him his job, move on.

You speak of it as if it is some undeniable truth. It's still only a rumor!

And Dennis didn't cheat either - Coughlan did.

Didn't you guys see Diego's post that dismisses the rumour??

Where there's smoke, there's usually fire. As Boss, Dennis is responsible for team behaviour. If he didn't know what was going on he should have. That was FIA decision.

I saw it, but there's an argument to be won :p

By the same logic, it could be Mercedes' fault that they bought stakes in a team with rogue employees. Coughlan did this on his own.

Not to mention Ron isn't psychic, sometimes things escape even the most vigilant of team bosses, especially if nothing seems all that out of the ordinary. Granted, when Alonso let stuff slip, Dennis probably should've come out with it sooner but in the end he didn't cheat. Unlike football, it isn't always a case of "the manager takes the fall"

"Out of the ordinary"? How bout the most reliable car for McLaren in recent history? That was the most striking thing about MP4-22. He damn well knew something wasn't 'ordinary'. Raikonnen suffered for lack of reliability. Either Alonso told them how to set up a car properly or they cheated. Or both. They haven't been serious contenders in a long time. Engineers don't make radical improvements without the knowledge of the boss. Yeah, he took a big fall, 100 millionUSD.

Mustang, I believe you are a fool and a troll. Oh, and your bias is showing.

You have very little to base your theories on; you are peddling your speculation as fact.

QFT.

But please, stay around. We enjoy the banter with your kind when we get to prove you wrong. Again and again. And again.

Since aparently there's three separate discussions about sandbagging, Dennis getting fired and other F1 stuff... and MB and McLaren have both denied this to be true, I'm just going to go ahead and close this. I'm also closing it before it becomes a flame fest, which it already is.

If any news about Ron Dennis getting fired should arise, I'll reopen this thread.

EDIT: Uhhh... how do I close the thread?
