Such a travesty that must have been. Being forced to drive a 62 Tbird. *sigh*

Damn a 62 T-bird sounds like such a bad car...wait no it doesn't.

My first car was a 98 explorer. A lot harder to tip than the news made it out to be.

Ha my first car was a 1983 Celica with 200,000 miles on it, boy did that last all of 2 months.

When you got the eclipse...was that right after the celica?

Lookin good. Isnt that a little much though for a mustang? I know you would never get that much money for it here in the states.

Probably that much beacuse it's rare. :)

No I actually had a Civic after the Celica...yes a Honda for a little while but some guy in a Dakota ran it over then I got the Eclipse.

I still love that car!!

My favorite feature was the "swing-away" steering wheel.
It swung to the right about 10 inches to allow easier exit and entry to the vehicle.
Every first time rider freaked when I pulled the wheel over in front of me.

the flatheads were excelent motors for their time, maybe some of the most powerful in the world, given the size and their price. and a danged easy thing to mod too. and it aint used???? you sure you live in ths effin planet? there are flathead national events, and thousands and thousands of hot rods eschew the typical 350 chevy for flathead power and not just for the sake of nostalgia. How about 350 hp from a suercharger, stomberg-fed one? oh, awright. then we call speed and marine in Australia and install a EFI setup over the thing... or ask those folks whose fleatheads run 200mph at the salt flats... yeah, a bad engine, that aint used. peeh.

Nope it was a FWD. Spyder though. I sold it cause the insurence on it was killing me, not to mention the fact I got quite a few tickets in it. So I sold it to a guy who crashed it about a month after he had it. I was really sad when he told me that he had clipped a van and spun the car into a tree. Sigh...I really miss that car, my truck is great but you can't beat a convert.

You could always import a Ford StreetKa. :D

well i wont deny gil u sound lilke u know more about fords than me. im a GM guy myself. but like i said if you would read around for the history of mustang it was a sportster. it couldnt compete with the muscle cars for over all power but it was a small car which let the small motor show more power than it really had. and the GT-350 289 was a more built up motor than the one that came in the pony's. it wasnt muscle, just a faster version of the pony. and now that u bring it up i change my mind. i dont think the GT-350s were muscle. the GT500's were. they were powered by one badass 428. then the boss's and mach 1's in 69. and one thing on the side, people were renting those, and stealing the motors, and they would replace them with smaller motors, and no one caught on for a long while. but anyways mustang wasnt a muscle car till around 67 when they started dropping 428's so they could compete with the big block camaro. and how can u call the el camino a piece of junk? its heavy but i still think its a nice body style. but again im GM. oh ya i heard of shelbys project a while back. im not sure though. ill take a guess and say the shelby cobra. i drove one of those cobras once. ugly car but it has some power.

From the bottom up. I never said the El Camino was junk. I actually like them a lot more than I ever liked the Ranchero. It had the utility of a small pick-up with the good looks of the Chevelle.
'Stangs may not measure up as muscle cars for you. But they are indeed muscular.
I also never called the Camaro a peice of Junk. I do think that it would have been premature for Ford to put the 428 in the Mustang in '67 to compete with the big-block Camaro, The Camaro arrived on the scene in '67 and I'm fairly sure it wasn't available with a big-block till '68. Now, I'll concede that the 390 went into the Mustang in '67. I imagine that measure had something to do with 383 being dropped into the early 'Cuda. But I don't think the "SCJ's" went into the Stang before '68 or '69.
The GT-350-H was notorius on the Drag Strip. And yes, people did swap "ordinary" 289's with them pretty regularly, taking the now stock 289 powered Shelby back to Hertz.
The actual Cobra, That's AC Cobra, not Cobra Mustang was, in your eyes, not a muscle car?
All the car mags of the day rated it as a musclecar. It was the first car able to go from 0 to 100 to 0 in 13 seconds. I guess it was just an ordinary British roadster, some old chicken farmer dropped a V-8 into?

It was also the car that was resposible for introducing the 70 MPH speed limit on British mororways after being clocked at 170 MPH.

U sure cause i thought that 67 was when they started droppin big blocks in them. and i wasnt talkin to you about the el camino some other dude said he didnt like it. and i think the cobras have some nice power. i consider them muscle even though they are small.

In "67 the 390 was indeed available in the Mustang. however, the 428/429 wasn't available in the Mustang 'til 68 or 69. However, the 428 (non CJ) was an optional motor for the T-Bird, since 1958.
And remember, Cobra=Small; Cobra underhood=Huge.:D
Even with the original 260, the Cobra was a MONSTER.

Gill:
I believe the 265cid V8 was produced by Chevrolet.
Ford used to produce a 260cid V8.
My neighbor had a Sunbeam Tiger w/260cid V8 Ford.
That was a very long time ago.

It was the M1 Motorway.

well unless http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/ford-mustang/ford-mustang-history-1.shtml is mistaken, i was right. 67 the GT500's debut and they had a 428. also camaro had a 396. the current big block for chevy.

""Comments: 1967 saw a massive restyle of the Ford Mustang. Changes included bulkier sheetmetal below the beltline, a more aggressive grille, a concave tail panel, and a full fastback roofline for the fastback body style. The engine compartment was also increased and Ford dropped in its big block 390 to compete against the new Chevrolet Camaro SS396. Although the 390 was slightly detuned for the Mustang, its popularity sealed the end of the high performance 289 cid engine, which was later dropped from the lineup. Of greater interest to enthusiasts was the availablitity of another Shelby-tuned Mustang. The GT350 was still powered by a modified 289 V8, though output dropped to 290bhp. The new GT500 was powered by a reworked 428 V8 (some were reportedly built with the even more powerful, race ready 427 V8). The 1967 Shelby's were more civilized and sported numerous luxury options, which seemed to appeal to buyers. These would be the last Shelby Mustangs actually built by Shelby-American. All future models would be built by Ford with little Shelby involvement.

Production:
2D Hardtop: 356,271
Fastback: 71,042
Convertible: 44,808

Engines:
200 I6 115 bhp.
200 I6 120 bhp.
289 V8 195 bhp.
289 V8 271 bhp.
(Shelby GT350) 289 V8 290 bhp.
390 V8 320 bhp.
(Shelby GT500) 428 V8 355bhp@5400rpm, 420lb-ft@3200rpm.""

Okay,
I'll give you props for that tid-bit.
But the "ordinary" Mustang was not available with the 428 until the following year.

Oh, and props to Oliver DePlace I had forgotten, till this morning, that the first Small Block Ford was a 260, not a 265. Funny thing is my Mom drove a 1964 Falcon Sprint with a 260. In fact, it was central to "Mustang Fiasco 2".
My old man decided in 1971, that my Mom needed a new car. So, he takes the Falcon down to Cal Worthington Ford, and trades it on a gorgeous brand new Mustang Grande, with a 351-C. It was her favorite color, Canary Yellow, with a brown Vinyl top. It also was loaded.
I was only 7 at the time, but I knew that that car was the "real deal".
However, when my Mom got to the lot, and Dad was showing her cars, he pointed out the 'Stang and asked her opinion of it. She HATED it.
Pop ended up re-negotiating a deal for a Plain-Jane, Chalk White Galaxie 500, with next to nothing on it. It didn't even have power brakes!
It wasn't the car that Mustang was, but it turned out to be the most reliable car we ever owned. (Loved by my Mom, Dad and I hated that car.)

Here's my Stang. 1965 with a 289. Yeah, these cars aren't much. But It's nice, and get's looks all the time. This car is not restored and has flaws. But, it's very reliable and I drove it everyday to school. Now It's at home while I'm overseas. Dad still drives it. I love it, even if anyone doesn't wanna call it a muscle car. ;)

Speedy,
this may sound strange, but is your mustang in Henderson, TN with your folks?
And are you overseas with the USAF?

One of my friends from church, way back when, had a son with a 'Stang like that one.

No, My Stang is in Florida with my folks. I'm overseas with the NAVY.
