RX-7 vs. RX-8

You both fail to see that the RX-7 was a true sports car, and that the RX-8 is a 4 seater sporting car. The RX-8 was never meant for completely powerful straight line speed, it was meant as something fun to drive everyday that can go fast and go through the twisties and put a smile on the driver's face. If you want straighline speed, then the RX-7 is for you, but if you want creature comforts and practicality, then the RX-8 is for you.

Let there be known that in NO WAY is the RX-8 a new generation of RX-7. They are completely different and meant for 2 different purposes. A 4th gen RX-7 is on it's way in a few years.

good one lol

Theyre not in the same class, so why ask? Any person who knows anything at all about cars would know this. Do you know anything about cars?

Rx8 is by far the mor reliable and more practical of the 2, due to it not being as femaninly small as the Rx-7 and it has decent CAB shaping....But the Rx7 would own it in any motorsports competition.....

Well seeing how they are both Mazda and both an RX. I think its a fairly reasonable question.

Both??? I said athe rx8 wore panties... i thought that it was clear that it was clear... oh well...

the rx only denotes the use of a rotary... not any special racing ability... if however we get a lightened rx8 with twin turboes... against a stock fd... i think we would be in for a treat...

Eh, to a degree you are correct. The RX line is quite long and there have been many changes along the way.

You are, however, making a similar comparison to say ... An Accord V6 Coupe and an Accord Wagon. The Coupe is lighter, more nimble, and designed to "go fast". Where as the Wagon is designed to haul stuff.

Similar family line, very different car.

Its a little unfair to beat up the RX-8 because it can't compare performance-wise to the old '7. The 8 clearly was not designed with all out performance in mind.

That being said, it is very competative with cars near its price-range. Track ability against the G35, CL-S, TSX, 330i, A4 etc. are right on par. From a handling perspective, I'd say the RX-8 has them all beat (haven't driven a TSX yet, though).

The '8 is an alternative to the cars listed above, not a spiritual succesor to the '7.

Something that is not realized here and Mazkid am surprised you hadn't mentioned it.
The Rx8 has the new generation of the Wankel or rotary engine.
Its an engine that produces almost as much power as the original RX7TT.
The new design Rotary engine has the exhaust ports and intake ports repositioned for more efficiency, better flow, and allowing for more efficient flow of the combustion and exhaust gasses.
Correct me if I'm wrong here MasKid.
So if you take that into effect, yes, they would be closer than most would think, no??
The RX8 really isn't the full purpose sports car the RX7 was so overall performance is compromised due to the increased weight of the car and the luxuries that have been installed.
RX7 would win.

Well the old Rx-7 made up to 280HP....The new one, as reported is having problems and has been known to make in the neighborhood of 150 to 250 HP...which is pretty bad.....

Driftster, people like you piss me off. I'm sorry.

The US 3rd gen RX-7 made 255hp. The RX-8 was rated at 246, then the rating was dropped to 238, which is where it currently is. It was never 150. The Standard RX-8 Automatic makes 197hp.

Misnblu, yes, they are similar hp wise, but the RX-8 has a lot less torque. The US RX-7 had 216ft lbs, and the RX-8 has like 164ft lbs. Also, the RX-8's power band is kinda narrow and at high RPM, and the RX-7's was lower.

Renesis means 2 things: Rotary Engine geNESIS and Rotary Engine for the New age with Exhaust ports on the Side housings and Intake ports on the Side housings. The main thing that the Renesis improves is the rotor side overlap that happened on the older Rotary when the rotor tip went over the port, and the cycles would overlap.

The Japanese RX-7 made up to 280hp, but the US was 255.

Lancerboy, it's ok to ask a question such as this, only if you have an understanding of the cars you are talking about.

You're right..The japanese Rx-7 did make 280HP...and the 13BREW did make 280HP...And I don't remember any 1B's having a huge underpowered difference and actually having customers bring them back for a lack of about 50 HP........Now, why would I be reffering to the less powerful of the 2? if the Rx8 made 350 in japan... wouldn't have said It only makes 250.....I would have given it it's japanese rating..but the fact is..the Rx7 is more powerful than the Rx8......Sure the Rx8 would be more reliable and a better all around engine..I don't doubt the renesis engine...I mean it won the engine of the year, even if there wern't that many other engines in the running....

the (usspec) RX-7 will lose because the engine will blow before it can cross the finish line.. The RX-8 wins!

Hah. Not really explode...more of apex seat deterioration. Then possibly an explosion. :)
