And you are wrong too. The 13B and the Renesis would be 2.6l if they were piston engines. Borrowing heavily from the May 2003 issue of Sport Compact Car, here's why.

For nerds only:

Displacement is the volume of the combustion chamber at its biggest point, minus the volume at its lowest point. Each rotor has 3 combustion chambers, and the rotor turns at 1/3 the speed of the eccentric shaft (crankshaft for a piston engine.) With the 3 combustion chambers, each rotor has an intake stroke, and an exhaust stroke per revolution, a bit like a two-stroke piston engine. This is where you could say a 13B and a Renesis equal to 1.3l.

Problem is, the 13B and the Renesis aren't two-stroke engines. It has separate intake, compression, power and exhaust strokes, classifiying it as a four-stroke engine. On a four-stroke engine, there's only one intake stroke for every two revolutions, so, displacement is how much combustion chamber volume is sucked in during two revolutions. For a rotary engine, with one intake stroke every revolution, you have to measure two combustion chambers per rotor, and not just one, giving you a 2.6l displacement.
 
Just because it does 2 strokes in 1 revolution does not make it have a bigger displacement.
 
Yes, it does. The way they calculate the 1.3l method would equate to half a revolution only, not completing the full stroke process. Hence giving you only half the displacement measure.
 
Well it's written down everywhere, even in RX-7 and RX-8 books and tech data, as a 1.3L, and that's what I go by.

The Lantis is the European model, while the 323F is the Japanese one. The US only got the Protege, which is a distant relitive.

According to some sites, the Lantis didn't sell very well. Mazda stopped production of the Lantis upon knowing this problem. I still want to get one, though.
 
Yea, I think it came out at the wrong time. Now there is a lot of want of 5 door cars(like the Protege 5, which sells quite well, and the '88-92 626 5 door(the GT one is the 626 to have), and now the 6 5 door Sport is coming.

I personally like the Familia Astina/Eunos 100 more than the Lantis, well just a bit. It's more "me".

come on mazkid, everyone knows 1.3 engines are crap, you aren't going to buy a high performance car and say it has a 1.3 are you? u may as well say 2.6 esp as there's scientific theory to back it up! :D
 
Nope. The RX-8 is a 4 door sedan. The trunk opens like a normal trunk, not a hatch. Too bad...a hatch would have been cool and increased space...
 
I'm starting to like 4-door sedans and 5-door hatchbacks. They seem more appealing to me than the usual 2-door coupes and 3-door hatchbacks
