I picked up a Panasonic "Tau" TV, also from Wal-Mart/K-Mart, for $250. Its a 27" "digital" TV, not HDTV, but flat "screen" and more resolution than an analog TV. It has S-video and Component inputs. Great TV for the money...I almost can't justify spending the extra money for an HDTV. But that's just me. The picture is a little on the dark side, as reported by many people who have the same model, but I adjusted that last night after making adjustments on an internal brightness control (had to take the back off). 👍

The S-video makes a BIG difference in clarity/sharpnes...even if it's "MAD CATZ". Component cables make a difference as I also use them for the DVD player that's attached. I can personally say that the "MAD CATZ" cable, using the S-Video cable, plays DVD movies much "sharper" than with the supplied PS2 Cables.

This coming from a guy who refuses to spend a lot of money for Video equipment and has blurry vision, but still wants a clean picture. Now home stereo equipment and cables, and differences with audio cable, is a whole 'nother matter!

This is what i'm looking at right now. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

looks like it would work just fine, just be aware you would be able to play GT4 in HD for less on your monitor, no matter how crappy the monitor (unless it's smaller than 17" and discolored) :)

I'm probably going to buy thee TV though, since i hate the one have and I can sell it anyways.

But could you give me some info on this stuff though, running it through my monitor (which is 17") and getting better picture.

What parts would I need, and are they easy to get. Maybe even somewhat how to set it up.

Hey g-man, I want to connect my ps2 to my pc monitor.
I have been searching for what I need to buy but cant find
any thing. Could you please post all the things you need.
Is it possible to buy them from Newegg?

the only way to get true 1080i or 480p on a computer monitor is to get a component to VGA adapter, commonly known as a VGA box. But then you will only be able to play games that support these modes, such as GT4, Socom 2, ATV offroad fury 2, to name a few.

There are other alternatives that allow you to connect via s-video, but this method relies on software to display the games on your monitor. But at least you will be able to play all games.

More on this in a few..

No, that is just a DVI to VGA Adapter, usually used to convert A DVI output on your PC to connect another monitor. (can be found for around $6 elsewhere on the net)

The VGA box will run you around $50USD, but like I said, you'll be getting true 1080i on your monitor. this also requires you to have some sort of PS2 component hookups.

the other route where you use the S-vid cable with, you can get the adapter for around $25

im still confused about the s cable thing. where does it hook into ur ps2? where does it hook into ur tv? what does it do?

sry if it sounds like a I havent read the thread but i think i just need it in dfferent words.

It is self explanatory when you get it. The connector into PS2 is same. Just connectors on TV end are different. Just make sure the TV has S Video Input.

man its a world different!
im never going back to normal-yellow cable.
S-Video is the way to go!

before S-Video (normal "stock" cables)

I will never buy at Walmart! It is against my social values...

I hear ya'...this was all before I started hearing/seeing all the reports. I had a new house to furninsh/build out. But now... 👎

Well, you guys convinced me. Got the Mad Catz S-Video last night at Wal-Mart (I know "boo-hiss", but wife is an attorney for Wal-Mart and that gives me the time and money to spend on GT4 :)) and it is an obvious improvement in clarity. I say to everyone- spend the $10.00, it's worth it.

Can all TVs use S-Video?Im thinking not.The front of my TV just has Video/Audio L/Audio R slots for the composite cables.

You'll have to look at the back connections, but most TVs that have all three RCA jacks in the front will usually have at least one s-video in the back. Like I said earlier in the thread, it looks like a keyboard or mouse input. :)
