Saints Row

very good review, i havnt played the game yet but my local HOLLYWOOD VIDEO has it in stock and i will be renting it today ;)
I will see you on tonight after work. I have been reading a lot of bad lag replies when it comes to the multiplayer online play. Hopefully that will be working better for everyone tonight.

I played a few more hours last night so now I have a total of about 6 hours and 45 minutes actual game time and I am around 16-17%.
I tried the multiplayer and its absolutely terrible so far. Really really bad lag and getting into a room or setting up your own room is not an easy task at all.
I am really enjoying the game but I would definetly say rent it first because if your looking for a good online multiplayer game, well this isnt it. I am pretty sure this game could get beat as a rental.

Hehe, I just threw my dude off a bridge into a police pursuit and got run over by one car and two cop cars and my insurance fraud was listed as :Lots. I think I got $210K for that once the :Lots had disappeared.

I think it's sold well here in the UK. I had to really search for it. Most places were sold out.

Anyway, I do like it. It's not as good as GTA games but it's no worse in many repescts. Apart from the graphics which in general is very good you can tell some thought has been put into it. In many respects it reminds me of GTA3 more than any other.
I do like customizing my character with tattoos, jewellrey, clothes and the car customizing is a little bit better than GTA: San Andreas. The story (at the moment) is fairly hackneyed but so what. I like the freedom to drive all over the map from the start, the freeedom to buy whatever guns I want (depending on the money I have) and just having some senseless fun. However I don't think this game will have the same impact as the GTA franchise has had. It's far too familiar for that to happen.

I think the scores of 8/10 and 8.5/10 are about right. There are some problems with pop-up, cars vanishing, tearing in the graphics and other minor niggles. Can't comment on online as I have'nt tried.
There's mention of downloads etc. I wonder when they'll start appearing?

I played this for most of the weekend and my opinion still stands the same as it did a few threads back. The story mode can be beat within rental time. However the achievements would take a long time.
slackbladder's review actually nailed it real well.
Currently I have over 35 real game hours into this, over 72% through the entire game, and I am currently going for achievements. I wanted to put as much time into this as possible because I knew TDU was coming out this week.

Actually the best thing about Saints Row is that it generally puts right most of the faults of GTA. For example, once you have a car in the garage you never lose it. If you leave it somewhere it always returns. If it's blown up you pay to rebuild it. But it's easy to see the flaws in GTA and put them right. In fact they had too. If Volition had made the game familiar and flawed it'd be a far worse game (the game does have flaws - the directional "pointers" are often non-sensical, for example).
The 5.1 sound is good too, as are the weapon effects.

I quite liked the Insurance Fraud. Best score was $313,000 by throwing myself in front of an articulated lorry. But other missions are rock hard, particularly the Snatch activities. Still, at lest it won't be done in a weekend. But the main missions can be too easy, though on or two have caught me out.

Anyway, even though I have TDU coming I'm still gonna give SR a whirl.

I'm surprised at how good this game really is. It's ALMOST like GTA, just cut short by the ultimate "fun-factor", as with the demo. Blowing things up is so amusing... :D

I'm 25% through the game so far, and is now starting to become more challenging. Though, it makes it quite easy to complete a mission knowing you can revive your partner(s) when they die. I suppose that just adds to the fun!

The activites must be the best part of the game so far. The most fun one must be the Mayhem Activity, where you have to cause as much damage as possible to property. Things blow up easily with your unlimited ammo, so it can be quite easy to complete. Blowing up trailers on a truck near parked cars makes parts fly everywhere, using a petrol bomb to catch people on fire, taking people out from a distance make it all very fun! The insurance fraud Activity is great, too. I managed to complete all of it, with my highest one being around $165,000 for diving into a path of an incoming car coming off the highway at high-speed.

The graphics are awesome. Most things are sharp, clear and easy to see. Explosions are awesome, buildings, cars and the road have the right lighting and shadows that the GTA series seriously lacked because of the PS2's and Xbox's limitatons. The characters don't look too bad either. Just a shame there is a lack of blood...

The physics can be quite hilarious. Run someone over at high-speed and they fly right into the air. Hit cars with a truck and they blow up. Most things are quite realistic, but the cars are still quite arcady (probably done on purpose) and there are a few glitches, like cars not moving at all for no apparent reason or not being able to get out of a car at all, having to load your last save.

Overall, I would rate this game highly, probably 8.5/10 for what I've done so far. Hopefully it gets better. 👍

I found the game very soulless when I tried it. Driving around running people over seemed funny for a while, but there just didn't seem to be the vibe a GTA game gives off. I could tell I was playing a clone and not an authentic experience.

Ok first of all, GTA was the first real game to give you freedom, no matter who it is they will all be called a clone, personally I see this as a good way for 2 companies to push each other to make better and better games, clone or not it will force GTA games to become better looking with more playable content.

If I wasn't still severly hooked on TDU then I would be playing Saints Row. I think by the end of this week I will be playing this again.

Has anyone else completed the story yet? Any thoughts on the ending (no spoilers for the people who havent finished yet).
I've finished it. Surprising ending! I'm glad I saved just before it...

I'm still having great fun with the game, but I can tell right now that there won't be as much to do free-roaming than with GTA:SA - it doesn't have that long-term re-playability.

Yeah, im still playing GTA:SA most days and Vice City.... I have played the demo of Saints Row and yes its got the next gen graphics but as many have said it doesnt have that vibe that GTA does...... maybe its because GTA have more money, more rep and are well established which means they can get celebrity voices, great soundtracks and good story writers etc etc......

I also agree with HiyakuShiro's comment that the more 'clones' there are out there (the drivers, getaways etc...) the more it pushes the benchmark higher thus making GTA get better and better to compete! Just look at the leap from GTA3 to SA on the same console! Cant wait for GTA VI hopefully there will be a good no lag mulitplayer aspect to it.....eventhough the single players line are more this type of genres forte.....

I am still cruising around with heather in TDU so we can get our 5000 miles achievement. Currently we have 4000/5000. I will be playing Saints Row again for sure tomorrow or sunday.

I started playing Saints row again over the weekend to unlock more achievements.
Now for my problem. I went to completely finish the story mode this weekend. I have been avoiding all spoilers and everything because I heard there was a twist in the plot. I finished the main story mode a long time ago but I guess there was actually 2-3 more events to do then the game would be completely over. Well when I go to do those last 2-3 missions my game freezes every single time as soon as I hit "Y" to enter the mission.
I found all the tags this weekend. Another frustrating part is that I have found 59/60 cds. I simply cant find the other cd. I spent hour after hour looking for it. Its driving me nuts!!! :ouch:
EDIT: I did quite a bit of research and found out that if my garage is full I can delete a few cars and that should let me do the last 3 missions. I will try that tonight.

WHAT I POSTED ABOVE WORKED!!!!
I deleted a few cars from my garage and sure enough I was able to finish the last 3 levels. Well 2 levels and an unexpected ending. :scared:
I also finally found my last cd. I was sooo happy when I finally found it! :dopey:

I finally completed every single thing in the single player this weekend. 100% Finished. Sure was a great single player and I had over 100 hours. 👍 I sold it on sunday after I got a few of the multiplayer achievemetns. The 2 co-op modes were fun and bling your ride. But anything else lagged way too bad.
All you have do do is finish every mission and you will easily get the $1 million achievement.
