Saleen S7 A Poor Mans Mclaren F1 ?

Actually the S7 is a grippier car all around, handles like poo in GT5 though. Cheaper car with better technology first super car from the manufacturer as well and it was nothing to scoff at. Wished that the S7 had a better going out party, sheesh even the insanely powerful 750hp 2007 S7 didn't make it into this game, go figure. Guaranteed if that car was in here, most of the other super cars would be hanging on for dear life trying to keep pace with it in GT5.

Viper, Corvette, Moslers

Anyway, the S7 was completely nuked in GT5.

It somehow has a front weight bias, zero downforce eventhough it's far better than the Viper ACR aerodynamically (and according to Saleen, better than FIA GT1 cars), and rear tires made of butter. The car was all wrong in GT4 and PD felt it would be OK to slap that excuse for an S7 onto GT5 as well.

The car might as well be considered a van that some guy built in his shed and put a S7 body and engine in because he couldn't afford the actual car.

Don't forget Panoz!

F1 > everything ever been made (even KFC)
Compare S7 to F1? Yes, compare rolex with fossil.

Not.

In GT5 the F1 is appallingly bad. The S7 is very good.
You can win races with the S7.

I'm with you on that, the F1 disappoints me, it can't even reach it's legendary top speed.. I mean wtf? 200 extra BHP to make it reach it's standard top speed?

I have no problems with the S7, probably because I drive it with racing softs, but seriously it is a very good car.
The McLaren is brilliant too but just annoyed about the top speed..really annoyed!

Both cars are represented terribly in GT5, though the S7 gets the short end of the stick by being almost nothing like the real car (which on the street was probably faster than the race car it was based off of).

the Saleen S7 aimed to be the first American super car (worth mentioning).
Vector. And nothing done by the Saleen S7 wasn't already done by Mosler half a decade earlier.

There was this

Can't think of much that could even be considered within 2 leagues of it if all of Saleen's boasting proved true.

Why did Kaz and company get a newer S7 in there, that thing looks impressive the S7 C, very nice. Wouldn't mind having that in my virtual garage, complete with 1000hp and aero kit.

Mosler wasn't widely known to the average joe, only gear heads knew about it. Besides the S7 looks leagues better than any of the moslers I have ever seen. Moslers looked like kit cars and didn't have the production base as the S7. The S7 was a street car before it was a race car, the race car was based off the street vehicle not the other way around.

I do hope that more of the iconic super cars make it in some day, not even in Forza does the S7 get upgraded to it's latest model, the travesty. Oh well I still deem the S7 as one of America's best super cars, sure those Moslers and SSC cars are interestingly powerful, they just don't really have the style and heritage like the S7 does. It was a monster from the time it landed(the S7) and unfortunately Steve Saleen retired and well without him came the S5S Raptor, total garbage compared to it's older brother.

The first part is untrue, and the second part is arguable. Saleen was racing S7-Rs long before the production S7 was even shown to the press, and there was very little difference between the two anyways (in fact, the first road tests that journalists got for the car was the S7-R). To the extent that Saleen had to jump through a bunch of loopholes and make a bunch of promises to even get the thing made eligible for competition in the first place (which had to keep being done as the years rolled on).

Saleen S7 a poor man's McLaren F1? Naw, it's more like the Tommykaira ZII being a poor man's McLaren F1.

This.

The Tommy Kira ZZII is almost on the same performance line as the F1. The car's 0-60MPH is around the early 3-second range and a top speed of 210mph.

The 0-60MPH time of a F1 is around 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 240mph.

Both cars have a mid engine layout. The F1 is a pure MR car, while the ZZ2 is a AWD layout.

One has a powerful BMW V12 powerplant which gives out 627-650hp, while ZZ2 uses a RB26DETT(Skyline GTR)motor which shoots out 546-554hp.

One price is around the one million range, in contrast to the ZZ2, under 100K! So inconclusion, the ZZII is a better choice than the S7 though you can compare the ZZ2 with the S7 in their own terms than a F1/S7 comparasion.

And if you even think about it, the TVR Speed 12 is another one that you can compare to an F1 in terms of power and top speed. :sly:

People who are basing how each car is from their experience with a video game needs to have their face put in a toilet and get flushed.

I don't want to sound condescending or anything but both the Saleen S7 and the F1 are poorly represented in this game and that's the fact of the matter, its just a product of the way the game is and sadly causes a bunch of these pointless arguments. I'd skin myself before I compared the Saleen S7 to a McLaren F1 IRL....

The ZZII was NOT supposed to cost 50k. It costed 500k in GT4 so I'm pretty sure it was PD's mistake.

About McLaren's top speed, do you know the top speed of F1 in GT5? 372km/h.
Now, do you know the top speed of F1 in real life? 372km/h (yes, the regular street model has a top speed of 372, not 391km/h).
Rev-limiter has been removed from the record breaking XP5.
The only thing which has been done horribly is gear ratios, McLaren F1 in GT5 has a 5 speed transmission...

Don't know anything about S7, but since it's a standard I'm expecting it to be represented horribly.

Still 6 gears, you saying 6th is useless doesn't make it a 5 speed transmission.

If it's useless I regard it as invalid/not present.
You reach top speed in 5th, hence you only use 5 gears.
Conclusion is that they messed up F1's gear ratios (thus, technically making it a 5 speed tranny).

It's got 6 gears, technically it's a 6 speed gearbox. No ifs, no buts. Me saying you're useless doesn't make you cease to exist does it? Same goes for the gearbox.

You either can't get it or you're too stuck up your own arse that you don't want to get it.
Ok, use 6th gear on F1 in GT5 to reach it's top speed.
If you succeed you're right.
Oh wait, you can't - since 6th gear isn't useable in GT5.

What a shark33.

You hated that guy too?...

I'm not stuck up my own arse either thanks, I'm just stating that it is a 6 speed gearbox and thats the fact. Your opinion is not fact so don't try to give me this technically nonsense.

And you know what? I'm going to give that top speed run a go, I'll post up the result here.

EDIT: Quick spin down La Sarthe 2009 w/ no chicanes, got to about 350km/h and had to change gears (5th-6th), because the straight is bumpy however it couldn't get much higher...will be trying on SSR7.

EDIT 2: There just doesn't seem to be anywhere long enough to fully test the top speed which is driving me insane....the only way to really test it would be to draft down Mulsanne without chicanes and that defeats the purpose. 6th is there and usable, just not without a draft as there's just no straights long enough :grumpy:

You're arguing a semantic point as if it is a matter of life and death when it is clear from the start that you knew exactly what he meant when he made the post in the first place. So you kinda are.

Yes but opinion isn't fact and he's trying to say, according to him it's a 5 speed gearbox not a 6 speed because 6th is useless (which it isn't...).

And his response to what I said, totally grown up isn't it? I've gotten infractions for less....

Alright, proof!

Single make race at La Sarthe 2009 with no chicanes, sports hard tyres.

Reached 388km/h before having a spin from contact with the other cars, redlined at 358km/h in 5th gear. I've got a freaking terrible photo too but it really doesn't show it too well (crappy camera phone with a pretty old TV = poor photo) but I ask, if anyone out there with a better way of getting a shot of this can step in and do exactly what I did it'd be much appreciated.
