As expected it'll be called San Andreas and it'll be a PS2 exclusive

I sure hope that the game includes Britney Spears, X-ray Vision Goggles, and a Time Machine!

01/03/2004 = Jan 3, 2004--- rest of the world is wrong :O

Its not really news anyway, everyone new it would be called San Andreas and be released in late october (I scheduled a week vacation from work the first week of Nov this year (for this reason)--and I scheduled it 3 months ago)-- the only question would be if it had a number in the title GTA 4 or 5 or 6.

I'm still hoping the city is like San Francisco-- I've driven there and it is fun in a real car--with hills and bridges and stuff-- should look pretty sweet if it is.

straight from the Rockstar website.
Rockstar Games is pleased to announce Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the next iteration in the globally successful Grand Theft Auto franchise. Developed by world-class designers Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and is expected to be in stores in North America on October 19, 2004 and in Europe on October 22, 2004. "In the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible to exceed people's expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," stated Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games. "Even though we still have eight months to go, we are starting to become very proud of what we have achieved and we can't wait to get the game into players' hands." Leslie Benzies, President of Rockstar North, stated, "We are extremely humbled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto series and it has made us push ourselves further than ever to create a title in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that will hopefully redefine the Grand Theft Auto series and revolutionize open-ended gameplay and video game production values." Over 30 million units of the Grand Theft Auto franchise have been shipped to date, including over 11.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and over 10.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto 3.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, San Andreas... I'm finally over my whole "hahahahaha" stage... I just realised how long this game will take to come out (assuming it comes out in October in Aus), it won't be out untill the motorsport season starts winding down, DOH!

search on google for gta san andreas, they got the confirmed synopsis on the game. vercettis the crime boss, not the main character and riots are ongoing in the city. san andreas would be boring as hell if there wasnt a twist and i think riots would be perfect. not would, actually it "is".

the riots i believ are based on the san fransisco riots, but that would not fit wi5th the rumor of it being in "modern day".....

All that aside, there is one thing I'd like to see in a GTA game. A helicopter that you can pick stuff up with - imagine dropping out of the sky, picking up a pursuing cop car and dropping him in the sea.

Nice.

Chinook :D And you could use the R1 button, as you do for the Hunter/Sea Sparrow's guns...

well, i hope its gonna be modern cause the 80s nostolgia in vice city got old fast for me, in fact thats why i favor gt3 more. have you guys ever watched one of those 70s movies where they show a detective chasing a bad guy in a gto through sloping streets where they jump like 20 ft into the air before landing to the next step? kinda reminds u of san franciscos hilly roads. or the bruce lee craze they had? theres alotta stuff to cover but i really really hope its modern. i mean, it has to be with vercetti being crime boss.

Oh no - the 80's theme was perfect for me. I was born in 1977, so most of my formative memories are of the era of GTAVC. Plus the music was so much better than this "Gangsta Rap" crap.

I agree-- VC was/is a masterpiece as far as catching the spirit of th 80's-- I'd like to see 70s or early 90s version-- as long as they have different genres of music again that you can tune in.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has seen the commercial yet but they have been airing the Final Fantasy XI (online) commercials-- looks pretty sweet if you are into that type of came--but why I mention it is that it is expensive ($99 US) but it included a PS2 40GB hard drive...

Can you imagine a GTA that you can load onto a hard drive (via multiple disks)...the detail and gameplay could be incredible as well as the music-- I'm sure VC was limited by what they could fit on a single DVD--the music itself had to have taken up a big bite of that-- I doubt that GTA:SA will run on a hard drive but the one after that--I hope it will...
