I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to computer and console things and need some help saving my game to a USB stick. I bought a new 2.0 but then found out it has to be a 3.0 to work with the PS4. I bought a 16gb 3.0 and now the console says it must be "250gb extended storage". I found 250 gig USB at Amazon, but the specs say its "approximately 248 to 250gb". Before I buy a 3rd USB I have no use for, can someone please tell me exactly what I need? And am I supposed to compress the drive after formatting to save space, and will this affect the game save?

Sorry if this is a really basic dumb question.

Strange because 2.0 and 3.0 should be compatible with each other. It's only the speed rate that data is transferred is difference. Unless something is different with the PS4. I use both on my computer with no problems.

All I want to transfer the GT Sport save files to the USB. Neither a generic 2.0 or 3.0 will work, the console itself says that. Maybe it's because I have a PS4 Pro?

Under settings I get a message that says the USB must be "extended storage" with these specs, and error message CE-41901-5.

USB 3.0 or later
250gb minimum 8tb maximum
directly connected to the ps4

Perhaps I should google that error message?

Here is the description for that error code:
"The capacity of the connected HDD can not be used as extended storage. Please use HDD of
250 GB or more and 8 TB or less."

I believe the USB needs to be FAT or exFAT format.

*Edit*
Yep.

I had a look on the PC at the one I'm using.
It's a 4GB stick formatted to exFAT.

Am not at home right now so not exactly sure of this . But In order to use a usb memory stick to save gt sport saves etc , you have to go to settings / system storage or something like that dig around and you should find it.

Hi, I had trouble doing this sometime back but then found that if I format the stick to exFAT this should do, so had a 32gb stick free formatted to exFAT and hey presto everything went on the stick. I deleted one game saved files off the PS4 to see how it did and then re-installed the saved files back onto the PS4. Hey works a treat.

Ok, thanks I understand and see that I can format the 16gb I have to exfat.

How in the world did this work? My PS4 won't accept the 16gb USB and says it must be 250gb to 8tb. I'm looking at 256gb 3.0 USB flash drives and they're expensive. I read that flash drives have a certain amount taken up by firmware so am I looking at $150 or more for a 512gb?

Sorry for all the questions but this is new territory for me. I physically know how to save the game, except my PS4 Pro won't let me.

Try formatting the memory stick in different formats ( I used a 2 go memory stick ) then go to settings then application saved data management then saved data in system storage then copy to usb storage device then select game ect that should be it job done

I use a regular 2gb usb stick to back up my game saves on myps4 pro, exactly the same as Tonytheposty, never had the issues that the op is having.

Well I feel silly now. I was going to settings/devices/usb devices to try and save. You tube is my friend, I went to settings/saved data in system storage/copy to usb storage device. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Thanks to all for trying to help this old guy. 👍

You could even use an old psp because it's recognized as a mass storage device. Any old drive is fine. Just make sure you back up the right save and you should be golden.

Well I'm glad you found the answer and got it sorted. And yes you should have checked Sven's post more closely but not everyone in the world is tech savvy.
