Got to say this game is superb. Thanks for the tips, they really helped and I'm starting to 'get it'. It takes a hell of a lot of concentration and skill to get it right but when you do get it right it's a real sense of achievement. I'm still only tootling around in time trail on full sim until I'm confident enough to get into the career. I've started on Valencia as that is the first track in career and I'm struggling with a couple of corners. Basically the last corner and the corner after the jink left, corner 7 I think. It's obviously because there is some change of direction in the braking zone and I'm struggling to get it slowed down, but when I get it right I'm actually too slow going into the corner. Any tips on that would be appreciated.

But my first real experience of a bike game is a real eye opener and so far I'm really enjoying it.

Know the corners well LOL the last corner is the big sweeping left hander which tightens into a hairpin over the crest of the hill....get off line onto the left of the track then hit the brakes in a straight and upright position. You should find yourself on the right side of the track and in the right position and speed for the hairpin.....the other corner I think is the deceptive one which tightens without you realising it. Big rear brake use should see you round easy enough. In the video below you'll get a good idea of a good line, the last corner you'll see he goes left of the line then straight on the brakes then back in.

going from experience in TT, i thought that was the last two corners of valenica.

Thanks again, I'd actually managed to sort it myself. It's just takes time to change your racing style from everything you learn playing car racing games lol. Much more adept at flicking the bike back upright before applying the front brake now. And the realisation that the front brake is used for scrubbing most of the speed of in a straight line and the rear brake is used to control your speed in the corners themselves has made all the difference.

And your ealier comment about if you get into trouble it's too late is so true. I've also run quite a few laps on the supersport and superbikes now and it's great how different all the classes feel. I love the supersports and the superbikes are obvioulsy the biggest challenge. I actually find the superstock bikes the hardest to ride.

The legends class bike 750 kawasaki (ninja) is the my favourite at the moment though I haven't really started to really try the bikes in anger

The game arrived today, the legends are awesome.
I just have a really hard time getting a reasonably quick lap even on "low" setting.
Guess i have to practice a lot more, its a lot harder than riding IRL.
Then again, I haven't tried riding a 200hp bike in anger on a Racetrack.
I'd probably kill myself LOL

EDIT: just tried out a few more bikes, my favorite so far is the Daytona 675. Great handling and nice sound.
It's really amazing how different the bikes are in regard to engine configuration.

Theres a demo on PS3 store.

now I'm getting to grips with the games physics I've switched o the on board camera..........so much better, you can see every little thing thats going on with the bike, and working up through the field really shows the graphics of.

Oh and try the suzuki in the legends series.....it's got that screaming exhaust note to die for......bikes junk mind LOL

Oh and I can't stress how important it is to use the engineer to tune your bike during the race weekends, the system is very robust and alows you to get the bike just right without to much trial and error.

how does the engineer work?

[edit - no demo on the psn/pss either.

Goto the engineer tab in the pits, then you have a range of subjects you can "discuss" like say, I dont like the way the bike enters a corner.....it will then give you options like it's too fidjity or its not responsive enough...the engineer will then tell you what settings he's going to change and you'll have a time that it will take him to do it say 11 minuets.....the options for him tuning things covers all aspects of driving on the track.

This means you can tune the bike with only the knowledge of how the bike feels when your riding it rather than having a technical knowledge of how to tune a bike. Plus you can then make your own tuning adjustments on top of it as the engineer tells you what aspects he's tuned.

Heres onboard video

The engineer is an excellent feature. Helped me to my first STK1000 win at Misano:p

hi all :D just to let you know that i've opened a section for SBK X - World Superbike Championship on PS3 over at my website

here's the link - http://racerpaulsplace.myfastforum.org/about19.html

i'd be chuffed if you'd register and join in over there 👍

ps. apologies to the mods/admin if this is against good form and protocol

does anyone know when sbk x comes out to the U.S. if it hasn't been out already? i've been looking for release dates and it doesn't show and none of my local game stores has it

Picked up a copy of SBK X for PS3 today, given I enjoyed the demo so much :-)

I am not generally interested in bikes, though I do watch MotoGP when it's on. SBK's core racing engine is a joy! I play with full Simulation and remove all HUD elements, for the closest experience.

There are a few niggles. Controller mapping took me ages to get right. There are a lot of active buttons, not just accelerate, brake, lean: you have separate buttons for each brake and can manipulate the rider's weight. The mapping doesn't always save properly either, which can be a real drag. Also, the background music is *really* annoying. Disable music in the options, and it does not stop the background menu music, which just repeats over and over and over....

Engineer is a nice feature, but has been done a lot better in Formula 1: CE. The Engineer in F1:CE was a great addition and very well executed.

The racing is *very* hard. Bike control takes a lot of getting used to. Get it right though, and it's quite rewarding :-) I have yet to post any competitive times or finish any higher than last, but I'm enjoying the journey.

I had to pay over the odds as all Game locally had left was the SE box with DVD, which I was not really interested in.

you get the redeem voucher for the Legends pack dlc though, which i'm really enjoying 👍

have you downloaded and tried that? its great :D

Yep theres alot of controls which take quite a while to get to grips with, the learning curve is very steep, especialy for those who havn't riden a bike before.

Just a quick note on the TT and Guy Martin, luckiest of the 4 fallen riders this year, anyone who follows the TT or Guy's tea drinking exploits will apreciate this photo.

I have not redeemed the voucher, and do not really plan to. As I mentioned, bikes are not generally my thing, so the Legends pack would be lost on me ;-)

I'll save the voucher for if I sell the set. It does sound good though, glad you are enjoying it.

Regarding the controls, I have automated the rider's weight now, and setting much better times. Most likely my lack of experience on a bike was resulting in some wrong decisions there, unsettling the bike with improper use of weight. I'm playing full simulation on profession difficulty and managing to hold my own now :-)

Legends pack is a big old chunk of game! 14 riders, 7 new bikes and a whole championship season! The bikes are the stars though from the monsterous 1000cc GP Ducacati to the Kawasaki GPZ 750 GP.........there a lot more raw in there performance and require a lot more thought especialy if you attempt the classic series GP, taking a 750 out on track and putting it against the 1000 GP bikes requires a special kind of crazy more akin to a 125 GP race where keeping the momentum up overcomes the lack of grunt......quite a scary prospect on a 750 GP bike LOL Just the sound of the suzuki's screaming motor is worth taping in the code! And after all that code will be next to worthless come trade in.

well, as long as the code isnt redeemed it isnt tied to his psn or xbl account and whoever buys it off him will be able to use it iiuc.

Yes I realise that but not activating it because of any advantage come selling it on is to my mind a bit of a waste. If you hate the game and intend on selling it straight away fair enough but otherwise you wont gain anything, you'll only be missing out on a big chunk of the game.

Just my opinion and not one I really want to get into a discusion about.

okay thank you. i can't find it anywhere at my gaming stores and i've looked online to get one but i don't trust the cheap websites. do you know of a site maybe that i can order the game from them?

Still waiting for this to release in Australia. Not in a rush though as I cant really play any games till 1st July (finished exams). Blackbean games always take a while to get here though. Superstars v8 finally arrived a month or so after it was meant to come out.

SBK X is quite possibly the hardest game I've ever played. And I've played a lot.

Timing the lean may well come as second nature to bike riders, but I'm finding getting the processes right really challenging. I'm not going to wuss-out and tone it down either: I want to make a decent go of it with the full Sim settings.

This is the first biking game I've bought and as such played, I'm finding it very difficult but I'm trying to play it on the hardest settings, I'm not very fast or consistent right now but I'm enjoying it a lot and it feels really sweet when you get a corner just perfect :).

It finally came out here! I went into store to buy Transformers yesterday and saw it on the shelf. Ended up getting both. I'll be starting on it soon. I want to finish motogp 09/10 first though.

Oh dear. Just seen it in action, and read a review. Now I bought MotoGP 09/10 a couple months ago. Thought it was good, if a little too arcadey. Everybody said I should have waited for SBK X, and was tempted to trade in MotoGP. Now having seen what SBK X is all about, I think I will stick to the far superior MotoGP.

In terms of playability sure MotoGP 09/10 has a much longer play time. But SBK X physics and actual game play are superior to MotoGP.
