Good points but it's not the whole story...

Well, as far as my experience goes, on which my whole post was based on, that's the whole story.

I don't believe those who set the world records have superior driving skills, they have superior thumbstick skills maybe, but it's not the same as real driving is it? In the end what they do have is a superior knowledge of how to make the car go quickest on that particular track, including kerb cutting tricks or changes in the racing line, it all adds up to them going faster than you. There is a limit to how many ways you can take a corner in the game, it comes down to more than that but either way the biggest factor i believe is time on the game.

When you're racing online in an organised event, everyone wants to feel at least a little bit competitive or else interest will go out of the window, in my opinion at least.

Speaking regarding the guys I regularly race with (I rarely ever enter an public lobby by someone I don't know), I can assure you that the only "tricks" you'll see around would the ability of keeping a car on track on the edge of tire grip and speed. That's quite a claim for you to make about others specially when (as far as I understand, and excuse me if I'm wrong) you haven't ever actually raced with them.

Yes sometimes I also would like to beat up New_Soul from cruising around at speeds I'm struggling hard to keep the car in a straight line. But his laptimes aren't from tricks, flaws-exploring on the game. It's from practice and, above all, skill.

You can practice as much as you what, that it'll improve your driving definitively, but ultimately your limitations are drawn by your own skills and there's people who's skills no matter how well trained are naturally quite lower than other's. I'm one of those (poor skill-less bastards) myself.

Yesterday I joined for some online racing and it seems that there still is problems with my setup. It felt quite terrible and I decided to change all values to default but drop the front a bit and lift the rear. It still felt weird and in the after race replay it clearly did show that my car had a lot of camber. Rest of the evening I drove with default setup. Frankly, I'm not quite sure what to do with saturdays race, maybe I'll need to take default livery to get a default setup. One solution could be deleting updates and save files, but I've unlocked all the tracks and cars, so it would be shame to lose all of them. I'll have to think what to do.

I noticed another issue too, I get disconnected from the host often. I think this has something to do with my wlan. It disconnects every thing in this flat for about 1-2 times/hour. It's a really quick disconnection and it hasn't cause problems in any other PS3 game before this. I have to try with a cable and see if that solves the problem. If not, there is no point for me to take part.

Save all your liveries, back up your save game, and try this,[https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=122489&highlight=save ] i use it, i dont knoew if it works on 1.13 you probably will have to rest the setups for all cars, there are no serious and extreme setups in this save game, ( Camber -0.01 and so on..)

I would suggest at this point you do what new_soul suggests as it sounds like something is corrupted in your game save.

This is a much wider problem with this game and if you haven't already done so, I suggest you check out this thread: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=124158 The P2P connection in this game is very unforgiving, even with some NAT2 connections. If you have the option, I suggest you get yourself a CAT5 cable and plug your PS3 directly into your modem--bypass your router directly. At least for this event. I do the same thing for these organized races as it's the only way I've found to ensure a complete stable connection.

Hey Lassi:tup:
Regarding the setup bug I really don't know what you should do!!!
I don't think that anyone of us suffered from that one...maybe it's just a punishement for you getting so good so quickly:p
But I would save my game data into a USB drive and try other save data to see how it works.

As far as DC issues ,there I am an expert, right along with the stutter frame rate freeze I get in some tracks,it is the main flaw of this game:drool:
In the first page Jeff gives a couple of usefull advices to try to avoid it:tup:
but You should also read this http://forums.eutechnyx.com/index.php/topic,1366.0.html and put your PS3 into DMZ Zone and enable all ports:tup:
And there will still be issues, last event people got DC from the first race I got booted in the second:nervous: it's like mechanical failures...

Thanks for the tips new_soul, jjaisli and arvore. I'll see if I can get any help from those. I think I'll try to delete all of my own liveries from the game and something like that first, I really wouldn't want to delete my own save game. But if it won't work, I'll go with the route new_soul suggested.

Same goes with the connection too. I'll try first simply with plugging cable in and not using wlan, because my problem really seemed a lot like that. And because I know, that the wlan has disconnections, because it does it for 2 pc's both in ubuntu and windows and it does it with PS3 too. With cable it doesn't happen. So I'll hope that using cable will sort this out, because I'm really bad with this kind of stuff

Thanks again to all of you 👍

Thanks jjaisli for allowing me to compete at mont tremblant in the morning and was greatly looking forward to it...then the phonecall came for work so unfortunately wont be able to show up 👎 I had a nice tune worked out ready for the race and managed a 1'39.xxx putting me 3rd on the leaderboard. Good luck guys and hope to see you soon. Steve.

I haven't raced in Jeff's events but I have raced in random online lobbies with quite a few of the guys here, and some that aren't on here.

I think some of these comments have been taken out of context. I didn't accuse anyone of cheating, when I say tricks that people use i'm referring to track knowledge of areas you can take more kerb or some grass and not get penalised, for a quicker lap - i don't mean cutting chicanes etc i mean small advantages through practice that add up to faster times.

I know people do this because i've been in races where other drivers exhibit an odd line through some corners or go on to run off areas to keep speed up. I didn't say that was cheating, you just have to know it can be done.

not true, every circut has track days and testing days virtually every other day, which allows drivers to practice before a race to get the car setup. im heavily involved in motorsport, and i have been an ARDS (association of racing drivers school) motorsports instructor for just over six years and i have proffesional drivers returning to the same circuts every chance they can to practice and gain more knowledge to gain an advantage. its just that in real life your amount of track time is limited by the size of your wallet :ouch:

just as the other guys say, dont be put off because you dont have the time others do to practice, it the taking part and the enjoyment of racing with a clean and fair bunch of guys who at the end of the day share the same interests.
i can say that you will love every minute of it 👍

speaking of testing days, im off to one tomorrow at oulton park cheshire to help a guy who is racing in the porsche boxster cup, and then on saturday i will be there as he competes in his race. so i will be rushing home to make this race at mount tremblant.

well clearly no driver turns up to do 150 laps a day more than his competitors, which was the point of that comment!

can i also just remind everyone talking in this thread that i haven't accused anyone of being unfair, dirty or cheating during any races. The discussion started purely because some people are clearly putting in rather un-healthy amounts of time trying to perfect their lap time, and I for one had no idea that people were treating the events so competitively.

but yes, i'm sure you're right, it's probably a lot of fun whatever.
I'll reserve my last place now lol...

I agree with you 100% on this. The same thing happens in GT5P & F1CE & presumably every other racing-sim out there. IMO the effect of too much practicing is to eventually turn the game away from being a driving experience, into being more of a muscle-twitch video game. In fact, the less-than-precise steering in SCC when using a wheel, contributes to a RL sense of unpredictability, which I think is part of what makes SCC so much fun & a little less like the "mathematical" precision of GT5P.

Having said that, SCC doesn't have too many places (that I'm aware of) where people can "cheat" to gain time & the racers participating here don't subscribe to that kind of "cheating" anyway. It's pretty clear to me that fast racers in GT5P turn out to be fast racers in SCC & vice versa - so there definitely is some annoyingly consistent "alien" ability involved.

but yes, i'm sure you're right, it's probably a lot of fun whatever.
I'll reserve my last place now lol...

Hey! Get in line budday ... ;)

:ouch: Just realized that I won't be able to race tomorrow... Two weeks trying to find a good setup and practicing this track... for nothing:banghead: and next race is at Virginia, where it's gonna be a real nightmare for me...bad times:grumpy:

I just wish you all good luck for the triple right-hander in the first lap! Specially for the wet race:D

I'm sorry to hear that Kemp! Man, what's going on. The participants are dropping from this event like flies!

I didn't have the chance to test my connection yesterday, but setups seemed to stay after I deleted all but one of my 348 Challenge liveries. Anyway, I'm off now and I truly hope that I will be back in time for the event. jjaisli, if joining in the middle of the event is allowed, you could send me an invite (or couple just in case my connection has issues) and I will join you later if I'm late. I'll hope to see you guys tonight.

Well in my book anything besides 2 wheels simultaneously on the track is cheating.

I know this can be done. And we had some issues about it in the past which, either from Eutechnyx being tighten up the penalty zones and from people stop using it is no problem anymore - at least with the guys who do participate on these events. If both mh66 and new_soul did use this regularly I'm sure it would've been detected quite a few times now (I'm using them both as examples because they're the fastest guys and the ones who have no life - hence doing hundreds of laps).

Hope you join us in the event!

M.T.

Race one:
I started on pole, got away good, Vompati was close behind me for the first 4laps, I did not want to push 100% at the start to stay on the track and get use to the situation that im leading and i have a verry fast driver behind me.
so on lap 4 i started to pull away.
On lap 16 i made mistake in turn 2 and 3 and was off the track, the gap to Vompati was big enough to stay in the lead by 7sec.
On lap 20 i was about to lap Bullie, he was 1- 2 sec in front of me before turn 6 and exiting turn 6 and 7 i was hard on the brakes and made a little contact with his car, i was surprised by the speed difference, i figure he might had sen me and gone off power.

Finished 1st and got a the fastest lap.

Race 2

Started last, behinde Vompati and Hailwood, i did know that Hailwood is verry good in the 1st lap trough traffic, and in the first 3 4 corners he was already 4 positions infront of me, so i was waching the lines and was trying to do the same, fortunately i was abel to pass many cars in the mid sectotr and was right behind Hailwood's bumper exiting turn8.
On lap 2 i made a mistake of runing vide in turn 1 and the whole field was going past me as i culd not go safely back on the track.
I was right behind Biggles when rejoining the track.
In turn 8 Bullie lost controll and did spinn on the track and crashed with Biggles in the same moment i was atempting to overtake Biggles.

A cople of laps later I did overtake JJ in turn 10, he left the track and i was of the power for a moment, to se where he will rejoin the track,
and probably avoid a colision.
Got past Vompati on lap 13 as he got hit by LAG from Manny's car, i was caching Manny then, i culd se Hailwood, but i made som stupid mistakes and i cached Manny only in the last lap where he did a mistake in turn 4 and i was right behind him trough 6 and 7 and passed him after turn 8.
Finished 2nd and got the fastest lap.

My car's set-up wes:
Soft springs and dampers, Hard roll bars.
Height -0.030 +0.030
Camber -4.00 -2.95
Toe +25 +25

In this event i had no problems besides som driving errors in the 2nd race, it was nice to come back again up to 2nd at the end, at one point in the race i was thinking of wining it, but then i made som errors and the chance was gone, i had to sit back and wach what will happen in the last laps.

Was a grate event, thanks to Jeff and all who participated 👍

Next round in VIR i hope to se som old new faces and thous who missed this event.

Yay, I made it to the race, my setup didn't go crazy and I didn't get disconnected! Now I'm not a SCC virgin anymore!

Qualify: Triple right hander in the start almost caught me. It was so close, I lost two tires already to the grass, but luckily I did manage to drop speed enough before that, so I was able to bring the car back. Phew. Then rest of the lap went pretty okay, 2nd position. Not sure, but maybe some other guys had some trouble on the qualify?

1st race: We got on the way nicely, new_soul leading and jjaisli behind me. Couple of laps I was able to keep up easily with new_soul thanks to drafting on the straights. Maybe he was also trying a bit too hard on the first laps (Edit: not trying too hard, quite the opposite). But soon the gap increased and I tried to settle to drive safe with a speed that I could get some gap to jjaisli and not even trying to challenge new_soul, as I felt I couldn't keep up that pace without risks. Keeping good safe pace became a problem to me. I wasn't constant at all. This was my first long race and my arms died in the first race and I had really trouble keeping focus to drive fast. But I guess guys behind me had some problems too, so in the end I finished 2nd with sore hands

2nd race: Apparently I was too careful compared to other guys in the start, as the pack in front of me seemed to be a wildlife battle instead of racing happening  Soon the pack settled and I found myself behind jjaisli with new_soul chasing me. Soon new_soul overtook me and I started to push behind him, because I was already catching jjaisli before that and I assumed that their battle would slow them down. And so it did happen, so I was able to catch them. There was already one situation were I might have been able to overtake one/both of them, but I wasn't sure if there was some pushing before that and giving road going on and I didn't dare to dive in. After that new_soul was running away and jjaisli made a small mistake so I got past him. Then he drafted behind me, and I don't know if my braking came as a surprise, or if he had simply so much speed, if my car lagged or what, as I was quite late on the brakes and I saw from the mirror that he did brake before me, but he still had to turn off the track not to hit me. So I got a big gap and thought that well, I just might push hard as I can afford one mistake. So in the end, new_soul caught Manny and I caught them when they were battling for the 2nd place (MHailwood had a big gap already). Manny was second, I was right behind him when something weird happened. Suddenly on my screen Manny's car went half a car length back -> my car went inside his car and I spun immediately with new_soul hitting me as that wasn't exactly something to expect! Shame, because we had a nice fight coming for the 2nd place. But the weird stuff didn't end. On the last lap Manny got some sort very unfortunate froze (power off or something?) so I overtook him and took the 3rd place as he was coming back to the track. We drove over the finish line in that order and in the results Manny was in front of me.

All in all, it was very exciting and nice to take part in this. I was quite careful with my driving, I didn't want to drive off the track at any point of the race and it seemed to pay off quite nicely. And I did learn not to drive too close of the car in front, lol. Thanks jjaisli and all co-racers 👍

PS. Sorry Dave about the chat talk after the race. Situation was new to me and I thought that my game froze. I didn't know that there isn't any kind of timer and every driver get to drive all the laps instead of their finishing lap would be the one after 1st position holder has finished.

Wow! Some very exciting racing this week.

Qualifying was really disappointing for me with a 1:47-something. Just an ugly mistake, but at least it was a white lap and put me in 4th.

Race 1; I'm behind new_soul, vompatti and Jeff. Even though I was putting in good lap after good lap, Jeff in 3rd was slowly moving away from me with, if not Alien, at least extra-terrestrial speed. I knew I was being very consistent but the gap kept widening. The real excitement was when MHailwood came up from the back of the pack and he and I started swapping passes. Twice I think. I just want to apologize for the inadvertant brake check at the end of the long back straight. I was looking in my mirror at his car getting closer and closer and thought for a second that I'd missed my braking point. So I tapped the brakes at the 200m sign accidentally. No harm done as he passed me there anyway, but I just wanted to explain. Just as I was getting used to 5th place I saw that Jeff had gone wide on the Turn 3 – 4 complex and I managed to get past him with only a few laps left. Although Jeff was clearly faster than me he just had too much time to make up and I backed off the throttle a bit in the last two laps to make sure I didn’t hand it right back to him. So I managed a 4th place with no red laps! Believe it or not!

The Sprint race was where I had planned on trying to earn some points. I had biased my setup for good wet performance at the expense of dry traction, so I needed to put in a good performance myself. The start was messy up front, but I got through the muddle without touching anyone or anything and found myself in second behind MHailwood with KUX on my tail. I was able to put a distance between KUX and I and kept a 2 – 4 second gap to Mhailwood for several laps, but a couple of low-traction-Oh-Sh** moments put him out of reach by about Lap 8. Jeff had slid into 3rd place but it seemed I was comfortably faster than he was, so my only real worry was when new_soul or vompatti would make appearances in my mirror. Lo and behold! by Lap 10 (I think), I see new_soul catching me slowly. Unfortunately, at this point my nerves of glass cracked and I made a couple of small errors that allowed him to quickly catch me. I have to say I didn’t want to let him have second place, so we swapped passes two or three times I think. But then suddenly I can’t see new_soul anymore and vompatti is the one right on my bumper! Then quite suddenly I see vompatti’s car jump a bit and he disappears! :odd:
At this point I’m starting to be slightly optimistic about things… then new_soul is back in my damn mirror again and this time he’s moving quick. He passes me at the end of the long straight and makes it stick. No re-passing this time. I’m just coming up to the bridge turn and getting used to the idea of taking 3rd… when the lights go out! ****!!! They came back on immediately, but the monitor stayed black for about 5 seconds while the PS3 loaded the data. When the picture came back it was just in time for me to see vompatti go zooming by. A hell of a way to get 4th place, but I’m lucky that the PS3 didn’t shut down and I didn’t lose my connection. Such is online racing.
Very enjoyable racing overall. Thanks Jeff for hosting and organizing the series.👍:)

Event No 3 : May 8th, 2010 - 20:00 GMT - Le Circuit Mont Tremblant - RACE RECAP

I want to thank everybody who participated in the third round of the Ferrari 348 Challenge Series from Mont Tremblant. We had a few new people join us today and a few of the regulars drop out for various reasons, primarily I suppose due to the one time change of this venue to Saturday instead of the regular Sunday. I want to express my appreciation for the nice clean racing and good sportsmanship. As usual, I had a lot of fun putting this event together and having only one track per weekend is a lot less hectic and dramatic from an organization stand point.

QUALIFYING: 2 laps - conditions 50% dry/wet chosen at random

I flipped a coin and tails meant it was wet qualifying for the first time this season. Much like with Montreal, I was able to set a nice clean lap in qualifying that put me up near the front of the pack.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RACE 1 (Feature Race): - 20 Laps - Dry

I started the feature race 3rd on the grid. After a slightly dodgy start and some curb hopping, I managed to hold 3rd position, about a second back from Vompatti in 2nd and about half a second in front of Manny in 4th. It took me about 2-3 laps to build myself into a rhythm but from that point on, I felt comfortable and my laps were generally quick and consistent, slowly building in pace. From there until the first half of the race, it was pretty boring for me. At the start of lap 11, I found myself about 5 seconds back from vompatti (and for the last two laps, I had ever so slowly been eating into his lead) and holding station about 5 seconds in front of MHailwood, who by that point had gotten around Manny for 4th. On lap 9 I had set my personal best lap of the race, a 1:40.11 and I felt really in the zone. I began to think if I could hang on and keep pushing, I could possibly hold station and finish the race on the podium.

Sadly for me, it went downhill from there. At the start of lap 11, I ran wide at turn 5, the first left hander, and went bouncing over the curbs, half on, half off the track. I was lucky to escape, loosing only 2 & 1/2 seconds to Vompatti but it allowed MHailwood to close to less than 3 seconds. I pushed hard for the next lap and managed to hold the gap to the car in front and behind, but at the start of lap 12, I put a wheel on the curb on the triple apex right hander and wasn't able to brake in time and went off. I didn't hit anything and was able to ride across the grass and come back on the track, behind Manny. But the damage was done. From that point, I think it just had a traumatic effect on me and it completely shattered my confidence. For the next 5-6 laps, I struggled to find pace and consistency and in the process, I wasn't able to pull a single lap below 1:41 seconds, still slowly closing in on Manny but not being able to quite reel him in.

At the start of lap 16 I made almost exactly the same mistake I had on lap 11, putting a right front wheel over the curb on the triple apex right hander and not being able to brake in time as a result. This time I actually made slight contact with the tire barrier and by the time I was back on track, Manny was more than 8 seconds up the road and GTP_Hun barely 2 seconds behind me. I wanted to kick myself. From half way through the race, I had squandered a podium position and was now being challenged by the 6th place car. From that point, I put my head down, tried hard to focus and pushed. I knew Manny was slowing down and my last two laps were once again in the low 1:40s. But it was too little too late and I crossed the line about 5 seconds behind him with GTP_Hun about 20 odd seconds behind (I'm assuming he made few errors).

All in all, not a bad race and I managed, much to my surprise the 2nd fastest lap of the race. But I simply wasn't consistent enough to keep it together, fatigue, and pressure just getting the best of me.

Feature Race Results:

1) - new_soul - UKOG - 1:39.49 - 26

RACE 2 (Sprint Race): 15 Laps - Wet

The start of the (Wet) Sprint Race was a bit chaotic. I had a good start but didn't think I could safely get around Kux for 5th place so I held station. There was a chain reaction in the downhill portion of the long right hander. After reviewing the video, it appears as if turnupdaheat made slight contact into the back of SimcoeAce which pushed him wide, to the right side of the road. He seemed to momentarily lose control and came back on track and hit GTP_bullie77, who left the track to the left. Biggles, then seemed out of control and was coming back to the right. L449KUX took avoiding action to the right, cutting in front of me and I had no choice but to do the same. I hit Kux and bounced over the curbs which launched me back onto the track and It think I made contact with MHailwood who was passing me on the left, although it didn't seem to affect him much. After hitting MHailwood, I was then sent back to the right side of the track, just managing to avoid Kux who was getting back onto the track at that point. In the process, it allowed Manny and new_soul both to get around me and I found myself in 8th with vompatti close behind.

(For the record, no, I wouldn't have remembered this without looking at the video)

Coming into turn 7, it looked like Manny (on the outside) and new_soul (on the inside) touched. Manny went wide and I tried to sneak in up the inside. At that point I saw turnupdaheat on the right side of the track going much slower and I swerved a bit, possibly making contact with Manny who was just on my left rear quarter. So I apologize there if Manny thought I was trying to squeeze him. (It was all a bit chaotic at this moment).

Manny managed to get by late braking into the hairpin and drafted Biggles up the straight. I managed to get by Biggles going into turn 12, just under the bridge. From my view there was no contact but perhaps from his view I tapped him as he seemed to go a bit wide. If so I apologize.

Coming across the start finish line to begin my 2nd lap, I was in 5th place and seconds later saw new_soul off on the grass to the left while Manny and Kux duked it out. Manny pulled ahead and I myself managed to get by Kux after drafting him and out braking up the inside into turn 10.

At the start of Lap 3, I found myself in 3rd, about 3 seconds behind Manny and set about trying to reel him in. At least that was the plan. At one point, seeing that Vompatti had gotten by Kux, I don't know what I was thinking but I meant to look back and switched views by mistake. It really threw me and in the ensuing few seconds, I dropped about a further second behind Manny. And somehow, I just couldn't seem to make headway. I'd gain a few tenths here or there and then lose it again at another part of the track. For the next few laps I just couldn't seem to put down a really good laptime. Not bad, just not great. And in the meantime, I wasn't pulling Manny any close and Vompatti was slowly gaining on me.

At the start of lap six I nearly went off on the right hander and managed to save it without losing too much time. But the fact that Manny was pulling away and Vompatti gaining was aggravating me. On lap 7, I finally started putting it all together and managed to put in a good lap. I had little time to rejoice when I saw new_soul had just passed Vompatti behind me and knew he'd be gunning for me next. None-the-less, I was building a rhythm. At the start of lap 9, I had narrowed the gap to Manny to <2.5 seconds and new_soul wasn't eating into my lead too much. I was beginning to believe I was putting it together when I had a slight bobble going into turn 5. I lost maybe a second but it allowed new_soul a good run on me and he was able to draft me and attempted to outbrake me going into turn 10. My normal line going into that corner is to brake late, turn hard and cut but doing so would have chopped new_soul. So I had to turn a bit wider and braking as late as I did, I simply ran out of road and took to the grass. It was completely my fault but I just wasn't expecting new_soul to pass there and it through me off.

I tried hard to maintain control and get back on track while trying to determine where new_soul was. When I got back on the road I backed off allowing him to take me up the inside and then quickly tried to block vompatti from taking advantage of the situation by turning hard into the apex at turn 12 (under the bridge). The block was short lived. On lap 10, I had a bobble going into turn 7 and it allowed vompatti to sail by on the outside as I tried to maintain control. Somehow, in the last 2 minutes, things had all gone downhill, fast. And it was about to get worse.

I was close enough to vompatti that I had a good draft from him into turn 10 but I wasn't close enough to attempt a pass. But I was braking hard, locked up the brakes, thought for a second I was going to hit him and then lifted to try and avoid him. Needless to say, we all know what happens in this situation. :( And so I began the painful trip across the grass once again, almost losing control in the process, but managing to make it back on the road in 5th place, in front of L449KUX in 6th, who was < 1 second behind going into turn 10.

From that point, I was angry at myself, fatigued, making silly mistakes and my confidence was pretty much shot. I could barely make headway on KUX. For 3 laps he trailed me, dangerously close. It was only during the last two laps that I finally started to gain my rhythm back and my last two laps were once again in the 1:44s. But as with the first race, it was too little, too late and I had to settle for double 5th place finishes.

None, the less, I had a good time during both races and enjoyed the action and the battle immensely

As expected, new_soul & MHailwood showed their mettle with both incredible pace and great consistency. Vompatti, a newcomer to this game showed that he has what it takes to get dirty with the big boys, embarrassing the regular season runners in the process. Well done guys! And a special word of mention to Manny, who expressed his dislike of this track and yet managed to put in great lap times, making virtually no serious mistakes in the process and soundly beating me in both races! A word of thanks also to Hairy-Dave, who lacking the practice for this event, made an extraordinary effort to give way to the traffic lapping him. In general, everybody in the lobby deserves praise for running a very fair and 'professional' race.

After three rounds, new_soul takes over the lead in the points standings and a hard charging MHailwood is now even with me for 3rd (after missing the 1st round). But that can all change very quickly. Round 4 from VIR is coming up in two weeks. Hope to see you there!

In looking at the videos I’m really impressed by the quality of the driving shown by everyone and by the games’ online performance when the racing gets really close on the track. (Like the first lap of the second race). Of course mistakes still happen occasionally, but the people in this competition have a really good awareness of when to attack and when to back off and wait for a better opportunity. Staying within themselves would probably be the best way to describe it. And aside from a momentary lag/freeze at the top of turn 6 (where vompatti spun) the races all ran smoothly even in tight traffic. That’s pretty amazing considering the far-flung locations of the competitors.

I’d echo Jeff’s comments on Hairy-Dave as well for his sportsmanship and common sense. He never impeded me in the times I passed him and he never surrendered. Good man. 👍

Yes, I have to agree. People in this event continue to show good restraint and excellent judgement. After the 2nd to last patch, it seems like Eutechnyx really found a breakthrough with their on-line code. (Although, it will never be as close and lag free as a LAN environment) ;)

The rest of my videos are still being processed by YouTube. But I'll link them to my above post as soon as they're done.

Yesterday I was on a very tight schedule so I could only take part in the first race.

It was a bit lonely, to be honest. After a bad start that saw me almost going back to last, in the initial 2 or 3 laps I regained a few places until I settled in 6th place, with turnupdaheat close behind. Can't remember who I overtook in those first laps but I do remember MHailwood passing me.

After I got to 6th place, I was doing constant 1.41.xxx laps (mostly low 41s) and that meant MHailwood slowly fading away in front, and turnupdaheat falling behind (not slowly, but in big chunks, I think he must have made many mistakes). At some point he got passed by Kux, but in any case 7th position was almost 30 secs behind me.

As for 5th position, what I recall is that jjaisli's nick at some point - mid-race, maybe - appeared at that position. Then he made two consecutive mistakes that reduced the gap to him to about 3 secs (enough for me to see him).

I followed Jeff for a few laps, and noticed that I could keep his pace in the entire lap, only to lose almost a full second in the hairpin ... every lap. Very annoying, I really don't know how to deal with heavy-braking corners.

Anyway, in the last 2 or 3 laps I already had my entire family surrounding me saying that it was time to go (and my entire family is a lot of people) so I totally lost concentration, made a few serious mistakes and the race ending was received with a big sense of relief! I couldn't even wait for all others to finish or to checkk the results sccreen so I just typed my position and best (white) lap and left. Sorry for that guys!

Jeff, once again, thank you for puttting these events up. I'll probably be away from PSN these two next weeks but I will do my best to return to the VIR edition of this championship. Meanwhile, I hope you all do THOUSANDS of laps around it and share your setup findings with us mortals! :)

thanks j, i watch the race so far and it seems great..we will have same competiton in turkey forum soon i think..
i wanna learn your setups guys, on default setups, my 348 challenge time on mont trembland is 1.44.71 at best and i can turn in 1.45 consistantly..
i hope you will share your setup..i am using g25 with assists set to off and manual transmission..g25 setting was all in high too..

Watching the video shows that you went a bit to the grass under braking there and I guess that caused the real trouble, or did you go into the grass because of locking brakes? Unfortunate, whichever was the case. I actually got scared that I did something wrong as you went out as soon as I was in front of you. (I already tried to drop you from my draft with weird lines..)

And aside from a momentary lag/freeze at the top of turn 6 (where vompatti spun) the races all ran smoothly even in tight traffic.

Now that you did mention it, jjaisli's car did the same kind of back-step (or back-stab? :D) in the same corner at some point. Luckily I was a bit further away there, but it did scare me quite a lot and I jumped on the brakes. Is it often like this, that tracks have some specific point(s) where is more trouble or something? If so, that would be of course nice to know. It's a shame to spin only due a lag, even though I guess I could say I was lucky that I didn't lose more in that incident.

I don't know how SCC's online code was before, but I do think that it does have a lot of room for improvement. Another racer that I've been playing now too, SSV8NC, even though lacking on some other areas is definitely superior with it's online code. Recently I've driven it with only Finnish mates and with them it's almost LAN-like. But I've driven several races with Derek and Miguel, especially remembering 10 lap Portimao race were I literally drove 10 laps in Miguel's bumper. No problems, no warps, no nothing. I could drive as close as I dared to come without hitting him. In SCC it's not the same. Miguel's car bounces and warps a little and I can't come so close, because something like happened in the Race 2 could happen. So they should be able to make it better as there is a title with better online code, so let's hope they improve it so that SCC can be even better racer 👍

Hello hozes. No problem. Normally we post our setups after the races anyway...
For reasons of strategy :sly: I was using the following setup to give me better Wet track performance:
Dampers: Soft / Soft
Fr. Camber: -3.99
Fr. Toe: +0.25
Rear Camber: -3.05
Rear Toe: +0.25
Springs : Soft / Soft
Roll Bars: Hard / Hard
Ride Height: -0.030 Fr. / +0.028 Rear

If you are racing only on a dry track I would use these settings instead:
Front Camber : -4.00
Front Toe : +0.24
Rear Camber : -3.06
Rear Toe : +0.25
Everything else the same as above...

Good luck with your races! 👍:)

I think I hit the grass because I had full lockup. But at that point, I was just trying to avoid punting you off. :scared:

Oh you're right, it could always be better, no doubt. But keep in mind a few things. I'm living north of the New York City area. So the packet data has to travel 4 x the normal distance it does compared to when you normally race guys all sitting in Europe. And since I was acting as the host, that alone can make a difference. Also keep in mind that there's a lot less 'data' to interpret in SSV8. The biggest problem before the patch was a bug that caused other phantom cars to push you off the road and into a wall. It was a nightmare as it looked like people were trying to punt you out when in reality they were 50m up the road.

Fr. Toe: +0.25
Rear Camber: -3.05
Rear Toe: +0.25

 Are you serious!!! And you're a wheel user? How can you drive like this? I tried it and my car was nearly impossible to control. It wants to turn so hard the biggest challenge is just driving straight.

EDIT: All videos are now up!

I present to you ... the MOTHER of all back-stabs!!!!

Note: Pay close attention at the dirty trick I pull on Jeff when I feel he is menacing my lead in a Misano old timer race! Watch me back-stab himn at aprox 1:05!

PS - Even today, I can't help myself from ROTFLMAO when I watch not only the back-stab itself, but most of all the consequences of it to poor Jeff
