I don't remember that incident at all, but it looks like I put two tires into the sand before you hit me anyway & therefore slowed in your path. IMO if the driver in front makes an error & as a result you hit him - it's not your responsibility. It does make you wonder how anyone survives these races IRL though.

It's amusing to see the constant yellow flag!

The only real solution is for everyone to have someone standing next to them with a big hammer - any collision: BANG! That ought to cut down on the punting!

Or consider the no collision option to these events...jeff don't kill me:tup::)

Here you have Spa. Not the last video because I had to split Spa in two, but I'm getting there :D (hope to publish Spa 2 tonight)

I have mixed feelings about this race. I think my finishing position was 8th but, as a race, it was far more interesting than Montreal where I finished 2nd.

Almost from start to finish I had a long hard-fought battle against eddietrout and mhm66. If you consider 3 cars battling for so long, you must expect some contact to happen. And, of course, there was contact. Some of it you see in this part 1 video, more you will see in the part 2 video.

After I publish both I will write my comments. One thing I can tell you is this. mhm is a guy with whom it is safe - and a pleasure - to battle ... if you are fast enough to do it, of course :dopey:

...and I thought I was the funny one...

EDIT: You know, watching the first minute of this video, one actually has to feel a bit sorry for the "Doctor". He brakes just a bit early, knowing full well that he's on the wrong side of the racing line and wants to make sure he doesn't knock me off going into Les Combs, and as a result he gets first tapped by L449KUX (who in turn looks like he was hit by Firedshot) TOTALLY clobbered by Firedshot, who doesn't look like he braked at all, and finally hit, while completely sideways, by Hun200kmh (although I certainly don't blame you for this Mario). Amazingly enough, he manages to regain control and actually enters Rivage in 3rd. Either the man's got skills or a lot more luck than I've been blessed with.

My video is pretty boring and I haven't bothered to publish it. Plus I had a lot of problems with the camera and had a lot of black video. But basically, I ran wide at Blanchaimont on lap 3 and let him through and then we ran pretty much ran nose to tail, give or take and finished the race 1-2, about 2 seconds apart. But there was actually very little drama involved.

If you guys want to watch a gentleman racing, you only need to check 15 seconds of my video. From 3:15 to 3:30. Courtesy of mhm66 👍

If you guys want to watch a guy feeling completely helpless to avoid a crash of biblical proportions (although in the end he only caused a few bumps and scratches), you only have to watch another 15 secs, from 5:58 to 6:13. Courtesy of ... me :dopey:

Finally, if you guys want to watch the opposite of what you saw with mhm, just check the final 15 seconds of the clip, from 8:02 to 8:17. Courtesy of eddietrout 👎

There are a few more interesting things and episodes in this video, but these 3 stand out in my opinion.

And ... at last ... my last video. The 2nd part of Spa. In this video you will witness a great battle for ... 6th place  mainly between mhm66 and eddietrout, with myself sometimes mixing in.

Although we are talking about another 8 minutes of VERY CLOSE RACING between three guys, with a very difficult car, I am glad to report ZERO complaints. If anyone acted stupid it was mostly me (but without any harm done to others).

I'd like to point out two moments:

- One, at about 1:00, when I manage an outside pass at the chicane. Eddie surely backed off in the right corner, or else I would have to do a "Hamiltonesque cut" of the chicane. We touched in the left corner but that I guess was almost unavoidable.

- The other, shortly after, starts at about 1:22. Although I start braking for the hairpin where I usually do it, suddenly I realize I am being sucked by mhm's car and I am most probably going to take him out with a heavy shunt . So, I went off track and miraculously managed to pass between his car and a salient wall I never noticed before :dopey: fewww .... a narrow escape and a lot of time lost in the process. :ouch:

The rest of the video is nice to watch, because (apart from my stupidity at a few locations) it features a nice and fair battle. So, in a way, it's a good video to end all the "visual" reports of this event.

Again, thanks Jeff for organizing it, and congratulations Henrik for winning it both with impecable fairness and amazing speed and consistency! :)

Practice Event 7: Spa - 5 Laps -Dry - Random Grid

Alright, here's my Spa video, such that it is. I have the start up to the exit of Les Combs, where if you watch Mario's video, you can see I'm about 2.00 seconds in the lead, and then cut to lap 2. Once I was in the lead I tried to put in quick but cautious laps. After having such a terrible run in every other race, I wanted to try and consolidate something. Wayne passed L449KUX toward the end of the first lap and was slowly making up ground on me. And I realized that he would catch me in another lap and decided to pick up the pace. Unfortunately I immediately made slight error at the exit of Stavelot (:dunce:) allowing DrSto1ner to close up about 2~2.5 seconds and that's where I pick up the action.

On lap 3, around the 4:00 minute mark in the video, he really has a great run on me going into Blanchaimont. When I look back at 4:18~4:19, I notice he's right on my left rear quarter and the timing indicator shows 0 and I thought at this point it would be unfair to 'shut the door' and take a tighter line as his nose was likely already up my inside. I should have closed earlier and the result is, even in this car, you can't take Blanchaimont flat if don't hit the apex correctly.

Good aggressive defending by Wayne between 8:35 ~ 8:45.

At 9:18 and again at 9:27 I make two very minor mistakes in putting down the power and it allows him to gain a lead of > 2 seconds which he was able to maintain, more or less, until the end of the race.

All in all, a good battle, clean and well fought. 👍

A little more aggression Jeff: should have pushed past on the Kemmel straight on Lap 5.

Doesn't your TR have a 4th gear?! That's a 51 year-old car you're flogging to death there (I should know :( ) ;)

To be honest, at least in stock form, unless you can really pick up a lot of speed from a draft, there's little point in shifting to 4th gear either on the kemmel straight or around blanchaimont with the 250TR. You're going moderately to slightly up hill in both places and shifting from redline in 3rd (117-mph/187-kmh) will quickly drop you back to 113-mph/180-kmh and you'll only likely JUST manage to reach 117-mph/187-kmh again before standing on the brakes. The difference is minimal. But when 10ths count, it's actually quicker to wind it out. (And yes I cringe when I'm tapping the rev limiter, even though it's a 'virtual' car :ouch:)

FWIW, there shouldn't BE a rev limiter in this car.

Then we would need engine damage.

👍 Exactly. And I can assure you, if it were possible to over-rev an engine in this game, I wouldn't allow automatic transmissions. :dopey:

I'm a chronic gear-shifter - I just can't stand it when the car is screaming along at the top of its rev range. :ouch: I'm not sure that shifting up it makes that much difference to top speed, but I feel that shifting down helps with the braking (could just be my imagination, however).

BTW: when is the boxed set: Old Timer Events - Highlights 2009 coming out? I think it would make the perfect Xmas gift for that special someone in any GTPer's life. :dopey:

Well done! 👍

...until you come out with the extended editions NEXT year and annoy everybody. ;)

:dopey:Will this have a pre-order discount!?

BTW: I'd like to apologise everybody I was racing yesterday at Monza for leaving so suddenly but, as I tried to explain, while racing there was a pretty intense earthquake in Lisbon (and all South of the Iberian peninsula), at least for our standards... even though that we had here one of the strongest and deadliest earthquakes ever registered in man's History.

Nothing significant came out of it, fortunately, but it was a good 6.1 Richter 'shake' for about 10/12 seconds. Christmas tree shaked a lot, as well as the dinner service held inside the cup holder closet, and I've felt being shaken on the sofa up and down. Mario must have felt it either, I suppose.

Nevertheless, I've left the race and lobby (and game afterwards) because my 5 year old son wake up with the all thing and was a little bit 'uncomfortable' with the all thing, as you can imagine for a kid that never had felt anything like it before.

Nice!

Should be a good candiate for a Best Documentary nod come Oscar time.

Enough with the petty excuses. ;)

:sly: ahhh... no need for it... a lousy driver is always a lousy driver...

Actually it was a shame because I was quite enjoying that race. Had a good start and jump to the front of the pack but had a mistake at the second chicane which send me to last. Did a pretty decent race afterwards and regained a couple of positions... and then everything started shaking and I thought: WHOA! Talk about game immersion! :dopey: ... and then come to my mind that I was sitting in the couch and not on some fancy sim-cockpit!

Well, I didn't feel a thing and when I read your message in the chat about a earthquake I thought:

a) funny way to say he lost connection;

b) earthquake = his wife showed up and she's mad

c) earthquake = the dogs jumped on him and he can't play because he needs to take them out.

Now that's game immersion ... didn't feel anything myself

You could have claimed your wife said:

"I felt the earth move ..."

but the rest of us (married with children) would have known immediately that it was a fabrication. :(

Hey guys :)

Sorry I haven't been participating in these events, i'm either busy on a saturday night or when its on a sunday it clashes with my F1 CE races. Thankfully i've only one more left this sunday and i've already sealed the drivers and constructors title :sly:

If there are more events like this in the future i'm much more likely to be in attendance. I especially want to try the game again online after the patch. Are there any improvements to the offline play, apart from the leaderboards being reset?

Also, have many of you given the GT5 Time Trial demo a go yet? The physics are slightly better than in Prologue and you're driving at Indianapolis, but other than that there's very little difference with GT5P. I was ranked 11th in the whole of Ireland (so that's Alan, Derek, theewar, me and a few sheep) last night but I will have slipped considerably in the rankings even by tonight.

Hi S.A. :)

I tried it yesterday. A bit rusty - can't even remember when was the last time I played GT5P :dopey: - so I went for the easier car, the tuned one. Before night end I tried the other, but just did a few laps and so didn't exactly get the feel of it.

These are my times:

Normal car - 1'51.594 (lots to be gained with more practise. I´d say 2 full seconds)

Tuned car - 1'38.161 (I think I can shave off a litle bit more, but not much)

Problem is, I don't like TTing (never took part in gtplanet WRS contests), I don't like the car and I don't like the track ... so it's kind of boring. Oh well we play what we get :)

Maybe we could do a "SCC players GT5 Demo leaderboard" in a separate thread? 💡 I guess theewar would be the current leader in that one. 👍

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Well, I tried last night the GT5 TT (who didn't?!) and I quite like it.

I think the physics have improve a lot over Prologue. Now there's the "feeling" of the car with the road, something that in Prologue was this noticeable.

The track I'm getting used to it and enjoying it more and more. As for the cars, I rather enjoy the normal 370z.

My time are what you could classified as...hmmm....💡.... crap!!

normal: 1'54''xxx
tuned: 1'42''xxx

As for the national ranking... I'm too embarassed to say it... let's just say that I'm likely to get top-100 before the turn of the millenium

Those are pretty good times Mario, they would put you in the top 10 had you been a Paddy Irishman :) Your times would put you ahead of Derek and just slightly off Alan.

Last I checked I've slipped to 39th in the rankings, but that was out of about 250+ so I'm reasonably happy with that. Still, I think I can break into the 1:38's with the tuned car and I haven't really tried yet with the stock car, im 1:53.something at the moment with that.
