That's the key in a 10-lapper. Avoding those costly 5-second offs is worth it even if it means your average is a few tenths longer.

It's really bugging me because I know from my own numbers that I've got a full second waiting out there for me to keep it in hand for a whole lap.

I decided to do my 10-lapper today. Not happy with the results. Just like last week, my times are about .5-1 second slower.

I'll post details later with sector times and problems.

Line-up:
'00 Lexus GS300
'01 Suzuki GSX-R/4
'69 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L46 350
'04 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII MR GSR
'02 Acura DN-X
'03 Ford Focus ST170

Some pics for fun.

Waiting for field to pass.

Passing DN-X.

Peeking over crest.

Just lapped Lancer EVO.

Ran my race this morning ... :yuck:  :dunce:

My best race lap was +1.500 seconds off my practice hot lap, most of them were about +1.750. No big mistakes, but a lot of little ones that all add up. Average splits were about: 35.3 / 1'05.2 / 1'31.1. I think I've got to learn to change my mindset from running hot laps. Most of my mistakes were braking too late, not braking enough ... trying too hard.

My field was two NSX's, a ZZ-S, a Griffith 500 and a Mercedes CLK 55. Took first place from the leading NSX at the end of lap 1. Lapped the CLK, the Griffith, and one of the NSX's by the end of lap 9.

I'd do a more thorough write-up, but it's not worth it :ouch:

Wow, if those splits are for a 1.5-seconds off your hot lap, I'm in deep trouble.

Wow, if those splits are for a 1.5-seconds off your hot lap, I'm in deep trouble.

Really

Those splits are way off my hot lap (34.9 / 1'04.4 / 1'30.0)

I guess I'm doing ok then, but I'm really sweating not knowing what anyone's else is running :scared: :p

This week has been a tough one for me. Not race wise, but time wise. I've worked every day this week. I should be able to squeeze the race in tomorrow afternoon.

Gettin down to the wire here. :scared:

heads up to everyone. If you only run 10 timed laps in your race. The reply will display the total time so you don't need to add it up.

Actually, though, that ends whenever you happened to quit your session. So if you go 2 seconds over the s/f line, it will include that time.

My splits for my best lap were 35.828", 1':06.313", and [edit] 1':32.790". This lap was about 0.6xx" behind my best practice lap, and right about in line with my more conosistent practice laps. Unfortunately I had a few small miscues that are going to keep me behind the pack. As Luxy says, it adds up.

I lapped 3 out of the 5 challengers during lap 10. This was fun and I ran a more consistent race than I expected, but not as good as I might have.

[edit]

I have to go with my teammate ///M-Spec about the limits of a slightly heavy FWD car. I've got some tenths left on the track due to driving ability; I know from looking at split times where I was trying to catch up after a miscue early in the lap. The crew has done a good job dialing in the VirtualTime Racing Acura TSX. She's nice and neutral under most situations but she has a little trouble getting the power down on the exits of the tighter turns. Motegi is not a track that favors this type of car. We're looking forward to some of the future races so we can drive her like the momentum car she is, and hopefuly put her up front where she belongs.

Golf Power !!!

Race completed, PM was sent to YLG.

Best lap was 0.7sec’ slower than my PB / Worst lap 2.0sec’ slower.

Line up:
Acura NSX ‘04
Lotus Elise Sport 190 ‘98
Honda NSX Type S ‘99
Toyota Supra RZ ‘97
Mitsubishi HSR-II Concept ‘89
VW Golf V GTI ‘05

Started from 6th just behind the HSR finished lap #1 in 3rd and was 1st by turn #2 of lap #2.
Never saw traffic again.

Fun race and fun track (very unforgiving though) the Race brakes are very strong for that car configuration.

I suspect Team Golf will be in the back on this one; will wait and see how the weight penalties will affect our future standing.

GL everyone, Deuce.

oh yeah and me

I'll be their. Just doin some practice laps now to get warmed up for the race.

I submitted yesterday... bu tsince most of the guys posting here don't peruse GTTimes... I'll give a recap.

I was right on my 'scheduled' pace for all laps (about 0.500 from best free run), except for the odd one where I fell back almost an entire second.

On lap ONE there was an 'incident' with an AI, but it was him pushing me and possibly sending me 3 into the dirt (it's close, hard to tell).

Other was in lapped traffic on lap NINE, in the final turn the 3rd place Skyline altered his line in mid turn and came in to tight (I already had the inside all lined up). So I connected with him to his inside. On my behalf, this happened when I was already travelling over 10 mph LESS than regular pace, so even if it was advantageous, it is not on purpose, and it cost me more time than gained.

Best lap: 36.024 // 1'05.923 // 1'31.993

In free run I was seeing more like:
35.6 // 1'05.5 // 1'31.4

and all of my best splits are nowhere near as fast as luxy.... I think it works out to:
35.5 // 1'05.3 // 1'31.2

Either way, I was happy with my race, 10 laps; the two that involved AI traffic totalled about 3 seconds loss, the other 8 laps were within 0.685 of each other. Removing fastest and slowest.... 0.409 within each other. Glad I can still be consistent, cause I am definitely not a fastie anymore :P

Dang! 4 seconds slower at the T3 than somebody who thinks he's "definitely not a fastie anymore". I suck.

Looking at your splits Duke...

You were faster than me on T1 (about 0.5sec’)
We were head to head on T2
And than 3sec’ behind on T3...

I was surprised to see that since there are only 2 turns between T2 and T3.

The results have been submitted, so let's talk lap times. My best practice run was 2':05.680". My best race time was 2':06.191", with most being in the 2':06.mid" range. I had 2':07.mid" for the first couple of laps as I dealt with traffic. Other than lap 8 where I had a known mistake, my laps were right in the 2':06.3xx-5xx" range.

I have a serviceable line, I think, because during practice I took a try at the S-1 license test (Civic racer at Motegi Road). I silvered easily on my first try and was within a few tenths of gold on my second try.

This puzzles me even more...
As I mentioned before I was 3sec’ faster than you on T3, yet you almost closed the gap at the finish line.

Best hot lap 2’05.3XX
Best race lap 2’05.9XX
Average lap 2’06.7XX

D'oh! Mystery mostly solved.

T3 = 1':32.790"

I keep my lap times in a database I made on my Palm. When I was entering the "2" it read it as a "5". Ain't over-dependence on technology wonderful... I'm still a little slower than you, but at least it lines up now. Boy, I feel better. I'm still a second and a half of of Luxy's and TML's pace, but that beat 4 seconds off!
:dunce:
Thanks for bearing with me!

I was suspecting that a typo was involved here.

But didn’t want to be too rude and point it out myself...

Heh, I appreciate the courtesy, but don't worry about offending me! Thanks...

Now all we need is for YLG to post the results!

It looks like it's going to be a close one. Aside from Luxy and TML, we're about even'

Best Hot: 2:05.032
Best Lap: 2:05.487
Average: 2:06.100

I can't wait til the results are up. :nervous:

my best lap in race was 2'07.595. yikes, my volvo is way off.

I have a bad feeling about this one. I had a tough time on lap one while battling the AI. Those cheap bastards tried to run me off the road. Definately traded some paint that lap. My lap ended up being +5 seconds off my pace of low 2.05's
Then again on lap 9, I had some more issues with the AI where one guy (the asshat in the '89 Skyline GT-R) ran me completely off the track. That lap ended +3 seconds off my pace.

The rest of my laps I was pretty consistent. My T1 times on lap 5,6 and 7 were only varied by .002 seconds total. 👍

I ran a practice session early in the week, and was running pretty consistent high 2'02s, with my best being a 2'02.3.

Before I ran my race on Saturday, I ran some more practice, but couldn't break into the 2'02s again. The best I managed in the race was a 2'03.7, most of my laps being in the low 2'04s.

I'll post up a replay when I have a minute to transfer it (and the results are up! :dopey: ):p

Your total time isn't right. My laps were in line with yours and I ran 21:01.412. You added wrong somewhere. Here's my times:

Lol... this is funny, I made a typo in my time submission as well... said 1X'xx.xxx instead of 2X'xx.xxx

Anyways, I don't like the idea of revealing our total times, or each lap, but I will divulge my "general" lap info.

Best lap in practice: 2'04.6xx
Best lap in race 2'05.047
Worst lap(s) in race (AI combatting) 2'07.924 and 2'06.168
Worst non-AI lap 2'05.732

In reference to the "no longer a fastie" comment. From my perspective, in these type of challenges I used to come out clearly at the top. I understand that GT4 is a different game than GT3 (barely) but it's enough that I fell from being that fast. Which I am fine with, and I do understand taht I still have quite a bit of speed left in me, but I also have a whole crapload of consistency in me, which I think is better anyways.

So, I'm not trying to be the condescending asshole or anything, I'm just reflecting thoughts out loud (or typed; whatever) because I am not accustomed to 'the way things are now.'

Meh.

Oh... and just in case I have offended anybody (which I somehow always manage to do...) I still treat this as 'just a game' I am just not what I used to be, and care a whoel lot less. So shove it :p

EDIT: Upon re-reading the this entire post I realized that I am still coming off as the asshole :P

Just letting you all know (for those unfamiliar with me) that I'm not trying to be one, or offend anyone, just saying what comes to mind.

Heh, don't worry about it. This is exactly why I'm running BC5 in GT4...

Anyway, I'm not cagey about my laps and totals. The steward hasn't come back to give the results and I'm mid-pack anyway. Here we go:
Code:
Lap#	time
1	2:07.777
2	2:07.505
3	2:07.366
4	2:06.344
