I ran my race this morning and was pretty happy with the results. My 2nd lap time was about 0.500 off my average practice lap and I was able to pretty much avoid the unruly AI in Lap 1.
As I started the race I noticed that the clock was already at 4.3xx as I crossed the S/F, so a little quick math heading into the first corner gave me an idea of how my splits and first lap times should look.
My field consisted of the following:
Spyker C8
R390 Road Car
RUF Yellow Bird
RUF CTR2
AMG SL 65
Mazda Protege
I caught and passed the AMG in turn 4 (left heading up the hill).
As I crested turn 5, I noticed the CTR2 off in the grass. He also ran wide (across the rumble strip) in turn 6, so I had the opportunity to pass him without altering my line. He pulled along side me down the straight, but braked early and didn't affect my entry into turn 7 aside from my approach being a bit to the right.
I came through the tight right well and passed the Yellow Bird on the outside around turn 8. I was able to get in front of him, so he didn't challenge or take me off my line through the small curves prior to the all important left-hand turn 11.
I shot past the R390 and the C8 after turn 14 as they braked for turn 15. Because my line was now off, I also had to brake a bit for turn 15. Normally, I only had to coast the corner entry before getting back on the gas for the chute straight. My Protege got me through the hairpin as well as ever and I was hard back on the gas as I checked my rear-view to see if I was in the clear. The R390 had outbraked the C8 into the hairpin and had taken 2nd place.
I had a 1.516 second lead on him at the S/F, so I knew I was in the clear for a uninterrupted 2nd lap. That said, I was only able to come within 0.500 of my average practice lap as noted earlier.
