I was under the impression that outside the rumble strip was outside the rumble strip. He's not been terribly clear on his clarifications. The picture given showed the Superbird to the right of the rumble strip, which is of course legal, so that's what I thought he was addressing.

Can we get an explicit clarification? Is the paved area to the left of the rumble strip at the exit from Turn Five considered track or grass?

My interpretation was that we needed to stay to the right of the rumble strip.
 
I can’t understand how you can interpret “1 yes legal” as don’t cross the rumble stripe?

If that is the case, than “what is legal?” not pass the rumble stripe. :confused:
 
Let's wait for YLG to answer my specific question. Then it should be clear.

[edit] My interpretation was based on Luxy's pictures. In #1 the Superbird is to the right of the rumble strip (hence 'legal') whereas in #2 the Superbird is into the yellow markings (deemed 'illegal'). YLG tends to leave a lot of detail out of his answers for whatever reason and so it's admittedly hard to interpret.

Please don't get paranoid. I'm not suspicious of you or anything!

  • How do we approach the fast right turn right after T1? Is the rumble stripe represent the end of the track or can I pass it from the left while the car is on paved road?

as far as im concerned, cones are fine, and the big runoff where the nascar version of this track skips the inside road course part, again if you can make that big open area to the left work for you feel free, i however have not found a fast way out there, because the rumbles always screw me up.

OK, I was going by my interpretation of his reply to the pictures, but you're right, that seems clear enough.
 
I should have posted clearer pictures :p I was lazy and stole the ones showing what was legal from the WRS race here, so that YLG would know which lines I was refering to. My understanding also was that you could go as wide as you want in turn 5, but had to keep two wheels inside the yellow line approaching turn 6.

I ran my race inside the rumble strip/line on both corners because that seems to me to be the spirit in which the track was layed out. And after some practice, I was able to stay pretty close to my wide-running ghost :p
 
in turn 5 you can run wide if you want, i feel like that going so wide on that turn, does not benifit the driver, the rumble strip is too tall, and it makes the line awkward, i have been practicing on this track all week, and have not been able to come within a half a second of my fastest lap swinging wide out there, and my fastest lap is inside the rumbles.
 
as for the lap count, i will run it however you guys want to, i was just leary about using the track meet a bunch, because i know i get bored with the game if the AI is not even close to as quick as i am. but hey, however you guys want to do it is fine by me.
 
Thanks for the clarification on Turn Five. I agree that it's faster to stay out of that area on practice laps, but in traffic it's obviously a different story. I'd prefer to stay inside the intended track area, but I don't have any problem with the decision or Deuce's run; I just wanted everybody following the same rules.
 
I ran my race this morning and it SUCKED. The AI's are all over the place making for very hard lines.

The race is so bad I don't want to post my splits.

Lap 1: Field left me at the start. Caught the Spyker and passed at turn 3 cleanly. Caught Viper under braking for turn 5. Clearly had the inside line as he rams my left rear quarter.

He passed on the left just inching in front of me to slam on brakes. I have no choice but to slam on my brakes in result tapping him in the rear. I reclaim position coming out of 6. Come up on Cobra on sweeping left as we touch wing mirrors, otherwise clean pass. I catch up to the Zonda as he took a slower line through the sweeping right. I out brake him at the hairpin for a clean pass. Cross S/F line leaving the Benz left.

Lap 2: Not far behind at the line, I easily close the gap. The fast left, followed by slower right. The Benz misjudges and goes way wide. I'm thinking "Awesome, easy pass here." WRONG!! Next thing I know, he broadsided me knocking me way off to the right. I kept to floored but a lot of time was lost here. I re-enter the track in front of the Benz so it's clear sailing all the way to the finish.

This is the Benz broadsiding me. You can see the line he took by the Zonda's and Cobra's line as they took the same one. Following picture is the aftermath of the 1091kg Focus ricocheting off the 1900kg Benz.


And to explain the time of the Spyker, I found him facing the wrong direction on the sweeping left.
 
Man, I'm frustrated here, and that's odd, because I love this track and I like this car. I just cannot string together a good lap. I get great runs at parts of it, and decent runs at others, but rarely do I get the whole thing together.

The odd part is I'm pretty quick (by my standards) through what should be the tough part, but I can't make good time through what should be the easy part. I may have to take third practice session tomorrow morning before I run my race, which I had hoped to run tonight.
 
I am the opposite of Duke. I am not too familiar with the track from not driving it enough, and I am not too keen on the Volvo. Anyways, I managed to finish 2nd. I lost to the Zonda C12 by .008! That jerk! They would pull away from me on the straights but couldn't take a corner to save their lives.

Field was the same as everyone else's.

Ok, this one was real nice and clean; nothing out of the ordinary to report. Had two AI contacts; both were detrimental to my line and speed, one I guess was avoidable, but I did try, and then I thought I had it, but the AI turned in some more on turn exit (ass).

This was slightly off pace from practice (about 21.6 // 44.7) and my 'magic lap' was something like; 21.3 // 44.2, which I could not replicate even in practice. I am also in on the vote for more laps, even 5 would be better, although I would prefer 10 or 15 :)
 
OK, time submitted. I gave up practicing, switched cars, and ran it. [Larry] Git 'er done! [/Larry] I only got to view my replay a couple times because I accidently backed out of it. The inconsistency of the control buttons drive me nuts.

I drew the following field and about 188 A-Spec points:

Viper Concept
AC Cobra 427
Viper SRT-10
Spyker C8
Ruf CTR

At the start, everybody ran away up the hill. The CTR nearly left the track at Turn 2, so I got a good run at him and passed him cleanly through Turn 3. I managed to hold a decent if conservative line through Turn 4 to crest the hill, and ran down the chute to Turn 5, where I outbraked the Viper Concept and passed inside for 4th place.

The Spyker was to my outside and we rubbed doorhandles as he straddled the rumble strip. He squeezed ahead of me in the next chute; I made a move at Turn 6 but couldn't make it stick and he outdragged me through the Esses. I got a better line through the dropping right before the two sweepers and caught him up going through the left sweeper. He didn't blow it here like he did in somebody else's race, but I got by him and put a lock on it braking for the fast right sweeper. I ran down to the hairpin, making a lot of time up on the Viper SRT and the Cobra under braking for the hairpin.

We left the hairpin with the Cobra leading the SRT and me, all bumper to bumper at exit. Of course, they left me thanks to cubic power and RWD. I kept my calm and ran my best line through Turns 1 & 2, watching them run wide at 2. Instead of charging for the pass at that moment, I lifted throttle and let them come back on track ahead of me rather than into my door. As they reentered the track and crossed to the right, I darted left and got around both of them heading into Turn 3.

From there I had an open track, but I was worried about getting rear-ended and I also drove a little conservatively. During practice I drove very aggressively and got lap times much faster than this, but unfortunately they were always interspersed with big offs or spins caused by getting the wrong toe into the grass at the wrong time. So rather than blow it big I played it safe and crossed the line just under 3 seconds ahead of the Viper Concept.

I wish I had seen my replay more than 2 or 3 times because I wanted to recount what the AI cars did; but to my own surprise my race was 100% clean with no offs at all, even 2 wheels; and the only contact was some rubbing with the Spyker during our 30-second duel through the back side of the track.

T1-1: 28.625"
T2-1: 53.447" (I saw these and almost cried)

T1-2: 23.006"
T2-2: 47.164" (almost 2 seconds off my practice pace)

The race was a lot of fun but had one problem: I was plagued by screen jitters through a lot of it, which made it a bit harder.

im figuring out the times and points right now, but look for the results in tha AM, ihave a BBQ to go to tonight (4th of july and all.)
 
You only have 15 minuets of CST AM left.... did the barbecue last all day? Like noon to past midnight?

guys im really sorry, i need some help please, i need someone to post these results, i have the times, but i dont have the time to sort and point everything out, i just found out that my grandma has (estimated) 48 hrs to live as of 4:27AM thismorning, i am packing to drive to indiana, we can either break for a week, or someone else can post the results and host for a week in my place. im VERY srorry guys, i just cant deal with this today. ill be back to host it next week, but please someone help....

Thanks, Duke. Apparently, this was the track for the Mazdas. Or was it? ylg and bhawk776 were right there with me, but where is Luxy's time? He ran his race Thursday night... :confused:
 
Yeah, this is just what I got from YLG. I thought there were some missing, but it's understandable.

Deuce and Luxy, will you guys PM me your times please? And anybody else who submitted by the deadline but isn't mentioned above?

I also don't have times from Bogitiman and h0ss, but I know we had a few driver changes, so I'm assuming these guys are no-shows.

As soon as I have the times from the two guys above that we know ran, I'll post the overall series results.
 
Noted, Deuce! That puts you toward the top of the pack, obviously.

I note that I also have a time from Crazy300zxGuy, but no indication in the signups or replacements thread about what car he's driving or where he came from. If you're here, man, let me know what you're driving.
