welcome to the Grand Prix of Clevel..err..Hong Kong lol.

This week will be a LITTLE different. same rules and regulations, but the race will take place in the japanese events, "all japan GT Championship" hong kong race.

the race is 9 laps long, and you may likely be lapped. IF the entire field of competitors is lapped, then all will remain the same. however if one or two competitors completes all 9 laps, for the ones that only complete 8 laps i will take the average time of the fastest lap, and slowest lap (that isnt the first lap) and add it to your total race time, this way, everyone is accounted for as running 9 laps.

when you submit i will need all your individual lap times and your total time, along with lap count. thanks for playing along guys.

any questions feel free to ask.

Man, I don't think I've stepped foot or rubber on the Hong Kong course.

It's got some clostrophobic parts, but it's not bad. You've run it in the License Tests, Boom.

I’m not sure if there is even an option but I’ll take it that no qualy is allowed?

A quick question to Duke: it looks as if i'll be taking over the RSX-S from RedWolfRacer (to be confirmed) trouble is, when i look at the result threads for any of the SCCA SWTC rounds all i get is the word 'code:' and an empty box? - this is going to stop me making sure i run to the correct weight isn't it?

he has no penalty weight, so you will be fine. ill redo all the points and weights because i dont have excel either.

You don't need Excel to see the text in those boxes. All the "code" tag does is use a monospace font and force Vbulletin not to delete the extra spaces, so the indent formatting works properly. It has nothing to do with Excel; it's just text I pasted in from Excel via Word - it's just letters.

I have no idea why you get a blank box. What browser are you using? Anybody else have this issue? It shows up fine for me in Netscape, Exploder, and Safari. Weird.

Using Explorer - Mac OS9

@TheCracker & Duke ... am I mistaken, or does the Mac OS9 *NOT* support the PRE tag (which is what is used in that code section)? I'm sure I read somewhere that software had been written for the MAc that improved webpage loading times *AND* added support for PRE ... which would suggest that it's not supported by default.

OS9 is pretty ancient now, the move to OSX, based on the Unix OS, brought Macs closer to PCs. Unfortunatly my Mac would'nt run OSX at any decent speed so i'm stuck with what i've got for now. Is there anyway the results/points/weight penalties can be posted normally?

By the way, Red Wolf Racer has officially handed me the keys to his RSX-S - so count me in for this round. 👍

I'll have to check at home and see what version of Netscape I'm running. My G4/450 is still running 9.2.x, and I think it has no trouble reading the CODE tags, but I don't know for sure. Most times I surf from the laptop on 10.2.8.

I'll try to PM you the info. Welcome aboard, anyway.

Just tried it Netscape, i can see the results now, but it runs much slower and has more pop-up ads!

'Snap!' with the G4/450 by-the-way 👍 - thought i'd be a lonely Mac in a sea of PC's here

So how are you all coming along on this one?

I don't have any split times handy to report, but man, is this track tricky to tune for! With the narrow, fast sweepers, the tight angle corners, and all the curbing, I'm finding it hard to decide on a setup. Tuning for one aspect alone will almost assuredly throw off the car on the others, so it is quite a balancing act. My spannerings thus far don't even closely resemble what I've used (with very little alteration) since Monaco. :boggled:

I can come within 0.200 of my best time using any number of settings, but they are each faster in some sections and slower in others. I have yet to determine whether a moderated setup or one that focuses on one aspect at the expense of another is the faster approach.

On a side note, just for shats and gaggles, I removed all REWARDS weight and ran a few laps. All I can say is, "Sheesh!"

Shoot. I haven't started the car yet this week. Been busy in the OPEL in the DTM series. I'll give some practice runs tomorrow.

On a sad note, I don't even know the course. I think this will hurt me bad.

I think the JGTC cars should be more than 10sec’ faster per lap and probably will be able to lap us. (I can’t remember if they pit in that race and I don’t know if I would have to)

Adding an average lap time as the 9th lap is not a good idea, IMO, no matter how you calculate it. There might be 2 slow laps because of pit stop, lap #1 is obviously slower and the car will behave very differently on new / worn tires.

Maybe just call it an 8 lap race (?)

Just my 2¢

The track could be frustrating to drive with several time traps. I hope for a better showing from Golf team this week.

I got a chance to drive the car a little tonight - maybe 50 miles, first time I've driven it since Sunday at Mid Ohio. So far I've concentrated my efforts on the gearing - itself a tricky knot - because I'm really happy with the way the car is dialled in at the moment. It seems to be functioning quite well, though the curbs are a mixed bag of innocuous and lethal. Next practice session I'm going to set the spring perches 10-20mm higher and see how she weathers some of those big apex curbs that jut out into the course. Current best splits are:

T1: 29.113"
T2: 1':01.192"

I'm touching 121-122mph at the braking point for the hairpin on a good lap. The car feels good and I've finally got it to understand trail braking, but I've got to stay off the rumbles completely if I want to get the power down at the exits.
On a side note, just for shats and gaggles, I removed all REWARDS weight and ran a few laps. All I can say is, "Sheesh!"
We'll just call you "Baron Munchausen".
:)

it is an 8 lap race unless someone finishes 9 laps, THEN and only then does the lap average come into play, and i will pick the slowest lap that is a normal lap, not a pit lap or the first one.

This is the World of Commander McBragg.
Your head will whirl in the World of McBragg.
He can do anything.
In his world he's a king.
Or so says the brag of McBragg.

What a dreadful track to start on!

I've done a few practice laps to try to dial in my new RSX-S - what a unforgiving circuit this is.
I've found that avoiding the curbs on the appexes altogether to be the best way, you lose too much exit speed whilst you bounce around. I'll try it higher and softer - but i think it will just compromise my speed around the fast 'waterside' section just after the start.

I ran the track in the Japanese GT championship the other week and ran on super hard racing tires without pitting - my saved replay showed i struggled on the last couple of laps though. I'm sure we'll be lapped, especially if we have to pit, which again i'm sure we'll have to do with FWD on this stop-start style track.

i agree. however i just made the rule of average just incase we get some blazing fast time from someone that managed to dodge the being lapped bullet.

Deuce, just so you know-- since noone has stepped up yet, I do plan on racing this weekend.

(Oh, and I'm another mac user here. >50% of my current computer stable are macs.)

We'll have to see about this race. Is there a particular reason you decided to go with a race instead of another track meet setup? The track itself is challenging enough without necessarily throwing tire wear into the mix, and since the field is going to run away from us the only real interaction will come when they nail us from behind when we get lapped.

Just asking, that's all.

On the Mac off-topic, we've got 4 active Macs in regular use, from a 17" PB down to a 350 mhz Tangerine iMac. Plus a basement full of older machines.

Good news h0ss, I’ll PM you later today some hot laps results and settings.

I like it, Tire wear is always welcomed.

Same with me. It adds a layer of unpredictability to the race.

well i posted my times to yourlocal.

i had no problems with the ai passing me. hell i never even seen them except for the begining in the first couple corners. so most people here should not have the problem if you have not done the race yet.

We're not supposed to discuss full laptimes until after the deadline...

i chose this particular league for this race, because i promised you guys that we would have a race where we needed to pit before the season was up, and i kinda like tire wear, it brings a bit of strategy into play, as far as when to pit and whatnot.

yourlocalgod - I've PM'd you my times for this race.

An interesting race. Tire wear isn't really such an issue, being lapped by much faster cars with poor AI is.

I’m a little confused here…
I’m discussing practice laps and race time with my teammate the whole season.

Isn’t that what teammates are for?
