What's it like? I'm quite scared of needles and I'm wondering weather its as painfull as the BCG jab. I had my BCG jab about 8 months ago and that really hurt. I've still got a red mark on my arm from that now. Is it as painfull as the BCG? Do you feel ill afterwards? Thanks.

Eh? My bcg didn't hurt one bit. And I never got a "school leavers jab". I've never even heard of it. Must be some new thing that us oldies didn't get. They never cared about us :(

My Mum got it and she's 40. She says it's not as bad as the BCG but my parents say that to keep me from being even more scared. The BCG made my arm dead for several days and I had a white blister for a few days. I cannot stress enough how much it hurt. That's why I'm asking about this jab. I think it protects you against tetanus.

Sounds like they didn't do it properly.

You had to have tensed your muscle or something, needles don't hurt that much, in fact I've never had any real pain from needles, the most one has ever hurt when I got a needle shoved over an inch into my foot.

I think as long as you stay calm and don't tense your muscles you'll be fine.

I'm natrally scared of needles anyway so I probably tense. The nurse said, untense your muscles, and I tried to. She said it will sting a little, and I was expecting a little so I was more calm. When the needle went in I didn't feel anything it was when she squeezed the vaccine out that hell broke loose. Literally I was on the verge of crying.

I have flu jabs every year and they only prick me so I know the vaccine was what cause the pain. I was just wondering weather the school leavers' jab was better or worse than the BCG.

Wait until you work in medicine and have to have your Hepatitis B jab. Or rather jabs. And blood test.

The first HepB jab nearly made me barf, and I slept for half a day. The second and third weren't AS bad.

Most shots aren't painful for me, Tetanus shots are waaaay overhyped. For blood tests, you squirm around on the bed and hope that it ends >.<

Shouldnt hurt (refering to school vaccine), I never had any problems.

The Blood test is what you should be worrying about. I squealed. Hard.

Funnily enough, I found that my Tuberculosis jab hurt more that a blood test.

Mind you, over the past 8 years, I've probably had about 20 blood tests.

*Edit - the above statement regarding pain is not quite true. One time the nurse on duty couldn't find the artery in my arm, so she inserted the needle into my hand. Damn did that hurt. :nervous:

Yeah, i had the bcg thing not long ago too. What's this leavers school vaccine? I've heard nothing of it.

[EDIT] Yeah after reading that link it reminds me of that jab. That was nothing. The worst part was the spoonful of something you had to drink, never tasted anything so bad :yuck:.

Needles don't hurt its the stuff they put in/take out that hurts. You must have had a bad reaction to the substance put in your arm. Blood tests don't hurt much they sting when the doctor pushes the needle around when in your arm.

Apparently a friend of a friend had his BCG jab and the needle broke inside his arm. Not sure how true that is but sounds painful :scared: .

arrgh my arm's feeling squeamish after reading this

I've had tetanus and all three hp B's and a tuberculosis test. None of them were all that bad. I don't know what this BCG thing is though.

When I was in tenth grade my teacher showed me the scar he had from a vaccine. I can't remember what it was for, but I do know that they had to cut you with a piece of glass.

I've had blood taken twice. The first was just a little bit from my finger, it didn't hurt being cut, but then the nurse grabbed it and started squeezing the hell out of it. Then next time they drew from my arm which wasn't bad.

I ****ing hate needles.

And it doesn't help when you've been biking for the past hour and haven't drank any water before and also have to bike home. Heh.

ah dont remind me of that stuff  :yuck:.

My arm veins usually collapse. So, I often tell them to just take the blood sample from my wrist. I don't feel it at all, even though they often say, "Oh, that's too painfull to draw blood from there."

Some of you guys sound like wusses.

Allergy shots for 6 years right here – meaning needles don't hurt me a bit anymore. I usually don't even notice until they actually squirt the liquid in.

I'm weak when drawing blood though, especially if the nurse sucks at sticking that fat needle in (I've had one nurse who was able to slide it in perfectly and without a bit of pain, but I've also had one nurse who hurt me pretty badly putting it in the first time, then had to take it out to re-position it).

On Thursday I had my first of three meningitis vaccinations. Needle went in and needle came out, as easy as pie! I couldn’t understand why everyone was getting so worked up about it.

Yay for needles!

Uh, you're a bunch of sissies :p You can either choose between getting ill and die, or getting a little shot, that doesn't even hurt a bit. Think 'bout it.

Recently, I have not felt any shots. They were nothing. At least they aren't injecting glitter into your arm!

When I first read this I thought that the shot might be fore smallpox, which they don't give to most people anymore, but it doesn't sound like it. Smallpox vaccines left a scar.
My World History teacher said that she had bad canker sores when she was young, she had 15 smallpox vaccinations one a few weeks after the other because the doctor thought it would stop it because he thought that smallpox and canker sore were related or something. After the 15 shots, she quit seeing that doctor.
I don't like shots because they hurt, but they don't usually hurt for more than a few days. Usually after a shot my arm will feel numb for like 2 days and then it kind of goes away. I hope I don't have to get too many shots before I go off to college in several more years. I have had tetanus shots and three hepatitis b shots. I have never had blood drawn, and I hope I never have to. I get weak feeling at the thought of blood. If I see blood I go into shock and usually almost pass out. I am so squeamish.
