Hell yeah. Awesome vid.
I really can't get over how skinny the tires look on the car.
I have 215s on my beater and they look wider even though the car itself is bigger than the 86.
And what's with speeding up the video in a few places?

-> If I was ever a journalist, I would like to see the Euro-spec GT 86, JDM-spec 86, USDM-spec FR-S, and the BRZ side-by-side and take a photo of all of them...

That's as close as we get, and that's only the GT86 and FR-S.

The tires are great news. They'll be nice and cheap.

The tyres really wouldn't look so bad if most cars weren't massively over-tyred these days. When you've got economy cars with 205+ section tyres on then as soon as a sports car with modest tyres arrived it looks daft.

My old MX5 had 195 section tyres (and those were on aftermarket wheels - standard on the NA Miata was 185) which are probably less than you get on a Chevy Spark now.

Oh - that too. Have to laugh at some of my friends who spend per corner what I pay for a full set...

Yeah the tire thing is interesting. This car has me rethinking the posiblity of getting a V6 2011 mustang or a V8 version for that matter. Not sure yet though still need to drive a BRZ of course and compare it with my experience with the 2 stangs.

Got to see the TRD and N1's driving around Fuji the past 4 days. Quite a bit slower than the GT500, F3, GT300, and FT40's that were running with it. But it isn't a race car. N1 sounds really nice. Nice smooth exhaust note. The TRD version is extremely quiet, could not hear it coming or after it had gone by in the pits. I could post pictures, but like I said before. My team principal said that Toyota would fine us if they found out.

The OEM tires aren't cheap and a set of 235s will cost about the same til a point.
A 215 width set of STAR SPECS is $24 more than a set of 235 STAR SPECS. Or a set of R-S3s will run $32 more in a 235.

They won't be cheap if you buy them from the factory. They'll be cheaper if you buy them from a store, but then it won't be exactly the same formula despite the same name. There's no vitamins in off-the-shelf tires. They will last longer, however, because they're not made of bubblegum that is quiet and grips safely in cold temperatures.

Your best bet will be to simply buy sportier off-the-shelf tires when they need replaced because they'll be cheaper.

EDIT: The Prius tires are cheaper for Toyota, not for us, because they already have a warehouse full of them. I'd bet money they cost us $200 a pop, which is flipping outrageous.

Its all about them making a profit, even at the expense of the consumer.

Well of course it is. They've got a business to run. Our responsibility as consumers is to convince them to make their stuff cheaper by buying what we need from somebody else until they do.

Exactly, that's the whole point of supply and demand.

They'll have to reach an equilibrium, a price that they and the consumers are happy with, where they get the amount of product they want sold while still making a profit.

Tire rack bro. I live in Florida-- summer tires all year long.

When the factory rubber wears out, you go Korean. $350 after rebate

200 HP is a little low for many Americans to stomach. Especially with a rear wheel drive platform. 250 HP would have been a better number, but I can see that Toyota and Subaru wanted to make this car sip on fuel. Then again, this car is lightweight, so they should promote that.

These days MPG, not MPH, sell cars.

200 is all you need really. My car has like 90hp. I'd love more torque but the power is adequate (You just don't pass on highways). My dad's Mini feels like a rocket in comparison with just 163hp, and my uncle's G8 with 360hp is deceptively fast. When you have that much horsepower, you don't really realize that you're already doing 58mph in a 45.

The FR-S should have plenty of power for its size and weight, and it'll probably feel like it too.

You and I both know this, but what about the average consumer in America that don't really research car performance?

Who cares about average consumer? These won't be volume sellers anyway.

More or less. :indiff:

This car looks like what you buy when you want a z and cant afford it... To the acerage consumer. ;)

Personally, Im going to try and test drive one the first day its on the lot. Something tells me they will let me and for that reason Im really excited about this car (as my previous replies probably indicate).

All that said, Id be interested to see how an Sti BRZ would stack up to a 370z. :trouble: only time will tell on that one. :ouch:

I "scheduled" a test drive today while getting the oil changed on the WRX.
I saw a set of 215/45/17 re960 in the service area and said that these would fit a BRZ, the guy at the desk told me and the GF to come back in January and we could try them both out.

Are you sure he said January because I know someone who works at a Toyota/Scion dealership and he told me that they would not get any FR-S till the Spring.

At first they said the Scion was going on sale later but then they said that both the BRZ and FR-S/86 would go on sale at the same time.
Even if the BRZ was going on sale first, 3-4 months is a big difference

New MY12 Imprezas are barely reaching dealerships just now, but I think in mid-October (and maybe earlier) there were a bunch of demo units driven around and shown to dealerships. Maybe BRZ will have some of those around January.

My Toyota/Scion dealer had said July-ish and I haven't been updated of any changes.
