Is it just me or is that spare tire kind of weird just open in the trunk? They should put a cover over it.
The tear drop shape is most efficient, right? Fat front/middle into a sloping rear. Or am I confusing myself? Though that shape wouldn't be very practical and I'm assuming that's why it hasn't been used more to the extent of the EV1. The Prius starts to slim down towards the back but it cuts off pretty sharply. I've seen some people put elongated structures onto their cars to reduce drag but again, not practical.
OmnisTake out the tire and it's the perfect place to put your bike.
That's no fancy feat. Long cars tend to have low Cds, for one because the swept surfaces like the rear window tend to slope more gradually, reducing boundary layer separation. Miatas are notorious for having some of the worst coefficients of drag on the road. About the same as a Chevy cargo van with big dumbo mirrors hanging off the side, actually. The LS460 is lower and so is the older LS430.
That's looks like a full-size spare tire. Probably an option. The US-spec cars didn't have that in the photos.![]()

It's the price you pay for a car with so little body to it, unless you get a donkervoort.True.
So to with Lotus 7 replicas. FM's shop car (260hp turbo + 1100lb car =) was a rocket ship until 100mph, then it hit the aerodynamic equivalent of a brick wall.
People have dabbled, but then it just becomes a full bodied car. Kind of Morgan, kind of Radical.I don't know why they don't make a plastic zeppelin shell for that car. You figure it's a kit car anyway so it shouldn't be hard to do. There's a guy on ecomodder who can do like 100+ mph on his recumbent aero-shelled moped.
Am I the only one getting a strong Supra vibe coming from the TRD?

Not sure if this video has been one that has been posted. But, flip to 3 minutes and 10 seconds. You get a good listen at the exhaust note.

You're right. Teardrop is most efficient
It actually isn't, at least not a water formed teardrop.
The shape of a teardrop is partially cause by its Viscosity, the ideal shape as speed record attempt shows is more an elongated shape.
and teardrops doesn't account ground effects, which you have to in a car.
R1600TurboThey could have at least put bigger wheels on it!
Anyway, I'll save this page with this:
So we bash stanced cars, then post stanced cars...?
R1600TurboThat car is not stanced. It would need deep dish wheels with super stretched tires sticking out of the fenders.

Depends on the goal. We have a new thread about aero btw, Emeritus. Are there any aero kits that actually do something to help aerodynamics?
Doesn't need deep dished wheels to be stanced, nor doesn it need stretched tires. If anything we could just call it slammd, which is just as impractical.
When I hear "stanced", I think deep dish and stretched tires. In fact, search Google for the word stanced and that's exactly what comes up.
I will admit though, the car is a bit low for my tastes, but it looks oh-so-right on TE37's.
