That fog light/brake duct combo seems bit iffy.. But overall, I approve this.

Meh. We've known for a very long time the cars would be revealed at the tokyo motor show.

First images of FT-86 production car leaked

Looks okay to me. That one appears to have a factory bodykit on it so the proper one might look a little cleaner. I like the interior though, definitely has the right vibe for a relatively inexpensive sports coupe. Nice simple button-free steering wheel.

Edit: Aww... you beat me to it! ^^

I guess the production form of the FT-86 will look exactly like this, minus the small body kit.

I like it. I might even buy one second-hand in a few years time.
What is going on with the middle of the dash? Seems it has no bulky CD player, which is good. Is that space dedicated for a tablet computer?

Not bad. Hopefully those stripe things on the sides are optional, and I would be completely surprised if the USA gets those seats. Does that center stack remind anyone else of the GT-R's? Kind of wish it came with a single exit exhaust.

Nice simple button-free steering wheel.

But...but...Toyota (and Mazda, it should be noted) was smart enough to put the radio controls on the left-side of their steering wheels, which doesn't interfere with manual shifting. I like that... :guilty: Dodge and Chevy put on them on the right side. Which is fine for slushboxes.

Why spend 3-4 years designing the look and style of the car, only to release pictures of it with a tacky body kit? And that faux-chrome strip has to be annihilated before production.

Because those pictures are from a Modellista parts catolog to show the body kit and interior parts they have for the car.

Why chrome?

Because Toyota.

Nice Altezza tail-lights. [/sarcasm]

This is the problem with a protracted development. You've already released images of the almost final product... then you have the prototypes all over the place. You've got to keep tweaking, tweaking, tweaking... give people news, keep them interested... eventually it goes from the design stage to the styling stage... and that's no good... it goes from being a car that's designed (sculpted, shaped, created) to one that's styled (nip, tuck, chrome, accent, fake vent, etcetera).

...everything but the actual car.

Hey look! The Tucker girls...again!

Nah, wheel buttons are irrelevant in a performance car. I prefer as little "stuff" on the wheel as possible.

Toyota didn't release the pics. They were leaked.

Why does a manual trans car have a feet rest?

Because you don't spend 100% of your time pressing the clutch, so it's nice to have a dead pedal to rest it on. Also useful for bracing yourself in hard cornering. My last couple of cars have had them and I couldn't go back to a car without one now.

And the close up of the shifter looks like it says P-N-D-R like a automatic trans?

The close up is showing an auto trans option. You'll notice the two full interior shots have a different shifter with no graphic to the side.

I'm guessing you can specify an infotainment system/sat nav to sit in that spot.

Looks great to me and if they are any good I may buy one down the road (though I doubt it if theres no sti subby version).
Very nice though, thanks for posting the leak!

I don't see it mentioned here but rumor has it the subaru version will be more powerful than the sciota. The sciota will be ~200hp while the subie was simply said to be less than 300hp.

Meh, unless the car is 100% track driven, I welcome convenience. The left side of the WRX wheel has music/bluetooth buttons that never get in the way. Cruise control stuff is on the right side but that's different.

Many performance cars today are patently doing away with the shifter, anyhow.

I bet you my belly button lint the North American version will have those steering wheel controls, because that's actually a true "driver's aid" (and every ToySciLex already has them, anyhow).

I dont like how the controls on the wheel clutter the appearance.

Then again, I love the ease of access to blue tooth phone controls.

The actual on-wheel controls for stereo and CC I could do without but it's not a deal breaker so I try to enjoy the convenience and ignore the less than clean look.

Id say this here is nearly

Truth be told, the only things Id want to change in my car are the wheel and seat, since neither is bad I still enjoy but I know the wheel above and a good recaro would be welcome improvements.

I've never found it too hard pressing buttons on the centre console anyway so never felt the need for steering wheel buttons. Current car has them for bluetooth controls and stereo - never used them.

But then, I rarely listen to music in the car anyway and never use the phone, so they're redundant.

An ergonomically designed car shouldn't really need wheel-mounted buttons.
