Screen shuddering problem. Is this in every copy of the game or are there bad copies?

:indiff: During the beginning of the race before you gain control of the car, in some races, the screen shudders violently. It's like racing during an earthquake! I cannot find anywhere that really answers this question, so what I need to know is, is everyone experiencing that problem during the beginning of some of the races, or is this just certain copies of the game? I am going to be taking this up with someone but who is the question, if it's a bad copy of the game, then I need to try and exchange it for another copy but if it's every copy of the game then I think Polyphony Digital (right?) owes me another copy of the game that doesn't have this problem. I've heard of motion sickness in cars in real life, but motion sickness from a video game? I don't think that's what they had in mind when they called Gran Turismo the "real driving simulator". (Yes, I know I'm not that funny.) But seriously, how many people are having that screen shuddering problem?

everyone does, it is one of the bug i dink, and only way to solve it is to get used to it. It only occurs a few seconds, so doesnt really make a big different.

I herd if your at 780dpi or 1080dpi it doesnt happen is that ture?
Also the screen jitter is normal and you get used to it. Lol I thought my game was defective..

I'm running 1080i on a 50" LCD projection Hitachi using monster component cables, and I don't get any screen shakes. Use to when I was running it on my old 32" Sony with the sony RCA's though. Not sure what model of PS2 i'm running, but its a newer version of the old model, if that helps. :)

I herd if its on Hi-def or higher than normal resolution its stop im getting a monster plasma and will bring a pic in the future. Thx! :)

So, wait a minute, this is a screen related issue? I might not have a new Hi-DEF TV or anything but my TV has always been one of the best ones I've ever seen, when a DVD or game is playing, I think my TV looks crisper and sharper than even those plasma screens and everything I see at BestBuy. It's a SHARP, and hmm, I'm not sure about the dimensions of it but it's always been amazing.

By the way, what's DPI mean? 1080DPI?

Ok a regular TV on normal PS2 cables are on 320dpi which give you the problem of the weird picture. If you buy componnet calbes for a HDTV it will solve your problem you dont have to have HDTV also 780dpi which is progressive scan.

So, you mean I buy new cables to replace the standard AVI cables I have right now and that's really all I need to do to solve this problem?

Also, what's DPI stand for? Seriously, you have me curious now.

Well i have the new ps2 and i have normal TV's so im running on 320dpi average cruddy TV. There are some TV's that support DPI I think DPI is called progressive scan just a step up from regular TV like those sony's flatscreen just a better picture. In your ps2 manual itn should show a chart of image quality and the differences. I have the new ps2 and it shows that in the manual. But to find out go do some research on your TV see if it supports 860dpi around 800 dpi if it does you can buy componet cables also 1080dpi is Hi-Definition. So it all depends on your TV i just need your Tv specs.. Hold on let me get my manual...

Found it in the PS2 manual page 13 there a chart on the top right.
Here's the rankings from lowest to highest:

Right now you have AV cables(320p)
S video Cables (need to buy these 480p)
Componet AV cables (1080p) Note these have to be enabled in the system config before you play GT4 so you have to set it up also typed in the manual. So if you tv can support it go buy the cables and you should be set. Go for MONSTER componet cables for the PS2 cause their gold platted anbd their higher quality.

Hope that helps.... :)

So the TV has to support these cables too? I'm still a little lost. :indiff: I don't have the PS2 manual, by the way, someone gave me this PS2. I had to buy the memory card and controller for it myself, all I have is the unit, the card and the control. That's it.

Am I understanding this right? The PS2 can support these cables but it has to be enabled somewhere, and the TV has to support the cables as well? This TV is fairly old, I mean, I've had it for atleast 5-6 years I think at this point. Maybe not, I'm not sure. I got it after I moved, and that was 5-6 years ago but I think I had another TV for a little while first before I replaced it with this, maybe not, maybe I got this one right away. I can't remember.

anybody else notice blurring of cars when you are viewing them in the garage?

i thought it was the refurbed ps2 that i got (which ended up getting disc read errors) and eventually refunded and bought the slim ps2

and the blurring is still there. Anybody else notice/have this problem?

For those suffering from the screen shuddering problem, I find a simple pause fix's it every time.

DPI = dots per inch

When talking about 1080i or 480i or 480p, the I stands for INTERLACED and the p stands for PROGRESSIVE, i believe the general consensus is that interlaced is much better than progressive.

also buying a tv at bestbuy is akin to buying mixing gear at radioshack.

S video cables do NOT support 480p...but component cables do.

Exactly true, however the difference between S-video and composite (the regular yellow RCA ones that come /w the PS2) is day and night, since the s-video cable separates the video signal into chroma and luimnence.

I bought one for less than $10US at Wal-Mart for when I'm on the go. I use Monster Component at home and have noticed 480p has less studder than 1080i, as a progressive signal is ideal for a lot of motion. This is why sports broadcasts are shown in 720p rather than 1080i
