Alright, its assignment time for me. Graphics. Doing it on making a sculpture for a possible sports centre we might be getting at school. Part of the assignment is to research famous sculptures, learn abit about them, and then paste it all in a nice fancy page in your assignment.

Its due on Friday so I thought I'd better get a wriggle on. I come in here, hope on this computer, fire up Google, type "Famous Sculptures" only to get jack****, hardly anything worth noting. I type in "World Famous Sculptures" only to get the same results.

It's like looking in a dictionary to find a word you don't know how to spell. I had no idea what to look for, the only sculpture I can think off my head are the Statue of Liberty, but we're supposed to find a few sculptures, not just one, so how would I find information on sculptures?

I hate the way searches work nowadays (keywords and META tags, damn them), I remember back in 1996/7 (P1, 133mhz - feel the power) I could type in anything I want, and up would pop the perfect page, now its so hard to find a decent page on stuff.

I don't know, maybe its just me but I guess I'll just have to pass on that part of the assignment.

Try here: http://www.sculpture.org/. Museums and art gallery websites might be worth looking at as well.

I know what you mean - how many of you have entered seemingly innocent words into Google and gotten some horrific, let alone unhelpful, results back

Hey Cobraboy,

So let me get this straight, your looking at making a "sports center" right? Like a big arena or colliseum? (sp?)

If that's the case, try a search for "arcitecture." It netted me many results.

I'm in the same state having something large due on Friday and I should've started by now.

Except information in plentiful on Global Warming. :)

We're doing a sculpture to go outside the sports centre.

I think I might just up and tell him I couldn't find any information, I might hand it in late, we only get marks deducted, not credits (you get credits for acheiving certain things, you get 80, you pass NCEA level 1 - our national certificate).

I've had good results on Google using "Search within results". So I would search for "sculpture", then within those results for "famous" etc. It's worked well for me in the past.

Also, given that you're looking for art-related stuff, and a lot of art writers are pompous idiots, try searching for more unusual words, say "acclaimed", and "renowned" instead of "famous".

You need to remember to search from a slightly different perspective. For example, a critique of a sculpture is unlikely to describe the sculpture itself as famous, because the critique would have been written when the sculpture was brand new, and thus yet to acquire fame.

Also, try using a different search engine. Google is very good at text searches, but if you're looking for a classification of objects (such as famous sculptures), you might do better with an engine that seeks to classify, like Yahoo.

It's called a "bust" if I recall correctly.

A bust is a form of sculpture that has exactly that. No arms or legs, just mainly the head and torso.

Don't mind if I join in.

Here is a nice diagram that could get me some marks because of my lack of content, but my problem is that fact that it's to big to put on an A4 piece of paper.

Now I bet you are thinking why doesn't this daft idiot doesn't shrink the image?

Well the text on the diagram is quite small if I shrink it and at the poor quality printer I have the result isn't too pretty.

So what do I do? -

ALPHA - You could cut out each industry/place/thingy, and paste that image into a file, and right a caption containing all the information in the above image. Repeat it for every industry/place/thingy.

Yep Josh does know everything, just like he knows that he'll never score with that chic in his avatar! J/K :D

But ya wont. :p

Wait a minute, your not old enough to have a "collection." :odd: ;)

The damn internet. Why couldn't it have been around when I was your age?

I saw that edit :p.

But yes, a broadband connection and a high speed cd-writer can do wonderful things nowadays.

Err...I have Britannica so if I wanted something like that I could just do it through there...:D :p
