Then make it shorter, purchase another HP upgrade. That's the beauty of it being OPEN, you can do whatever you want. Want to grind 5 hours to get the tune right? Do it. Want to spend 30 mins to get the tune right? Do it. It's not that big a deal.
Please explain how you assume I could possilbly get in 30 minutes what otherwise takes me 5 hours just by "wanting to"?
And what is "right"? That's the problem... there are litearlly thousands of possible tunes with suspension alone... any of which could be the difference between winnable and not, and that's JUST suspension.
More importantly you are failing to understand the difference between:
About a challenging as the event can be and be beatable
and
Comfortably challening for me
The important part is that the first challenges you to get better, the second just challenges to you find out what fits your skill level now.
Really?... I find that tweaking the LSD and suspension doesn't take too long. I had about 3 or 4 goes before I found a good drift setup for my r8. But everybody's different I guess (and hence why the OPEN restrictions are good, because everybody can do as they wish).
And I had a good feeling tune for the a few of the races, but upon trying someone elses tune (which felt quite wrong) found it indeed made me faster... sometimes tuning feels right but takes you in the wrong direction. That's why it's not as simple as "find something that feels right", in a few situations what felt right to me left the race unwinable, while something that felt wrong, proved more beneficial. It would have taken me a LONG time to get to the same result on my own especially when I was fairly sure I had tuned the car pretty much perfectly already.
It's not an argument. I'm just saying, if you want a challenge, impose a challenge on yourself. If you don't, then just tune as much as you want. The challenge WILL be there if you want it to be (it'll just be more tweaking than before).
And I am saying I don't want to do the grind to find the hardest doable challenge, I want to attempt to meet that challenge, there is a difference. It's the difference between being a puzzle maker and a puzzle solver. They are not the same at all.
And those 20 tries weren't in vain. They must have helped you learn the car, and learn the track well enough to get to victory. It's a racing game, why complain about having to race more? (maybe you'll have to try 50~60~200 times now... isnt' that the challenge you want?)
Which has what to do with your claim that by the 5th race you should surely know if you need to upgrade your car to win?
It's not a solution I'm imposing on myself, because I don't get satisfaction/enjoyment out of it. It's just a solution for those who want a challenge. How is it flawed, it works, just keep racing until you KNOW you can't do it, then tune. If you still can't do it, tune some more. Doesn't matter how many tries it takes, it's still going to provide the challenge that you're after.
The flaw is that there is no way to KNOW you can't do it... I have literally spent 6 hours trying a race I STILL haven't firsted... I know it's doable but I haven't been able to after even 6 hours of trying... so your plan fails in that it's one thing to say "do it until you know you can't" but it's entirely another to do it. What if I have a tune that is physically impossible to win with but is possible to get 2 seconds off first with? How am I supposed to KNOW I can't do it? There is no way... that's why it doesn't work.
Why don't you do time trials?... Those would give you the perfect scenario. Fixed car, and you can tune till you beat the online leaderboards.
So rather than admit the mode is damage now, you just suggest I go to another mode? Maybe I don't TT because I like racing against other cars and don't particularly like driving alone on the track and they aren't even close to the same experience? Maybe because it's one thing to gold a seasonal event (which means you are skilled enough to do what thousands of others have done but is still very challenging) and it's another entirely to try and beat every single other person in the world?
What you are suggesting is that when someone takes "kinging" out of checkers just go play chess... one is not the same experience as the other no matter how many positive points either may have or share.
Not true, I know people who can't beat beginner races even with SRF on... They still enjoy the game as they like cars, but they're just not very good at it.
Again what does that have to do with what I said? I said it's attainable for the average driver... not the poor driver and I said the elements exist to help any driver achieve average driver ability (license tests and practice sessions). I didn't say everyone will want to...
Some people don't want to improve. Some people just want to have fun playing the game.
Yes and the ones that just want to have fun have practice, arcade and online already. The ones who want to improve are left with very few fun options.
The fact is that arguably the most fun of the few options for those who want to improve has been fairly broken.
When all my friends played starcraft and counterstrike etc. They all said "practice more, you'll get better".
I just didn't want to. I liked doing whatever I wanted in the game.
These seasonal events give the exp for amateur drivers to get the cars they want and enjoy the game their own way.
The issue at hand is that there are LOTS of races that do that already (especially while the current xp and cr boost is in place for a and b spec)... but very few that cater to the other type in a fun way.
That's what you keep missing... all else being equal, yes there are two sides to the coin. But all sides are not equal... the amatue players are already catered to, the reason the seasonal events being broken is such a big deal is it was one of few really good options for the other end of the spectrum to get some sollid racing enjoyment done right.
