why waste the money
Only 44 days until the 12hrs of Sebring and I can't wait. This,to me,is the real start of the race year.I love to see what changes have happened over the winter and get a idea of what we will see at LeMans. Will the Mustang try to go against the Vette's?Will Audi kick:censored: this year or will someone finally have something that will last this year? And will the P2 be a close race or a blowout?
What do you feel will happen this year?

I think Audi will be as strong as ever. BTW, anyone seen any unofficial entry lists floating around? I've been behind on the news as of late and I'm curious as to how many cars Champion Audi will field and who is going to race against the GM boys this year(Will Acemco and Maserati be back? Prodrive Aston Martins? Privateer Aston Martins?). As for the P2 class, I think Porsche will dominate barring any problems. I'm also excited about BMW's return to battle with the GT2 Porsches. This should be an exciting race!

sounds interesting. I think it will be a cool battle. I'm looking forward to P1 & P2.

BTW Kart Racer, its Sebring I think you were trying to put on the title.

Anyone know when they will release an official entry list? I'm really hoping the field will be big this year.

I hope some of the teams from Europe will be there. That would give us some kind of comparison foe LeMans.

of course there will be european teams there. that invite to le mans is so important that there has been european teams every year at Sebring(though i wish the field was just as big as the 50th anniversary).

Ahh lucky you! I hope Speed covers a lot of the race, unlike last year when they stopped showing this American classic endurance and instead aired Nascar qualifying. They could have at least aired another race... but qualifying? Oh well, I guess thats where they get $$$ from.

I think it's time to bring this thread back to life because Sebring is only a few more days away! Here's a preview of the race....

Any thoughts and predictions?

P1 - I think Audi will come out on top in the R10's debut race with the new Dyson Lolas right behind

P2 - The Porsches look to be dominant force in this class. I don't see it being close

GT1 - I'm going to have to go with an Aston Martin repeat :)

GT2/(s) - BMWs back and ready to take a victory from the Porsches. Also, I expect a good performance from the Panoz teams

Hopefully I can catch some of the race. This year, they're interrupting it not even for Nextel Cup qualifying, but Busch qualifying! Sweet! So many people are soooo interested in that!

Well, you´re lucky to get anything from it at all. I´m surprised how badly this is covered in Europe, and especially Scandinavia. We may get a note about the winner on Eurosport, but we will most likely not see any racing action at all :(

My Predictions:

P1: I expect an huge battle between the new Lolas and the new Audis.

P2: The Penske Porsches look unstoppable but don't count out intersport. they have all the sudden have got more life.

GT1:I keep hearing the C6Rs are better then last year so I don't expect Aston Martin to walk away that easily, especially with the Konrad saleens too.

GT2:BMW is back, Ferrari is back, Lexus is new, and Panoz is looking fast. all mean one thing: Porsche had better watch out.

Don't forget the Spykers! :D
almost lost track of them. I'm not particularly fond of those C8 spyders they have ran last year. I really love the closed-top C8 Double 12s.

Tuesday testing has the two P1 Audis topping the time charts with the P2 Penske Porsches only about a second and a half behind the fastest Audi. In GT1, the #009 Aston Martin led the way with the two Corvettes right behind it. In GT2, the two Panoz cars were in front and the Alex Job Racing was the fastest Porsche coming in with the 3rd fastest time in the class.

I expect the P1s to distance themselves from the P2s as they push the car more in the later tests this week.

fellas, fellas, fellas,

I'm only gonna talk GT2. Porsche has eight cars entering (or maybe it was eight teams... can't remember), the GT3 RSR is far to developed to be beaten by basically newcomers. Panoz will be the stiffest competition in my opinion because they have had that GTLM for a couple years now and it should be pretty well prepared. (Not to mention it was blisteringly fast in Winter Test Days.) I still can't see the Panoz winning though because of just how tankish those Porsche's are especially with teams like Alex Job and Petersen White Lightning out there. As for BMW, yeah they're back... so what? The BMW M3 GT has been away from the series for a while and PTG only started building their new cars recently, I see them being competitive but still sorting things out. As for Lexus, they didn't come here to embarrass themselves but I don't see them winning, I think the car still needs sorting out like it's GT2-S foe, the M3. When it comes to Ferrari, Risi Competizione are back in GT2 (after waisting time with the GORGEOUS MC12) and should be on pace as well. Ferrari wouldn't send a slug to Sebring but Porsche just seem to strong to be beaten. Spyker and the Spyker Squad bring two (I believe) C8 Spyder race cars, they won't be competitive again, the North American circuits eat up the Pirelli Tires (which I believe the Spyker was running, correct me if I'm wrong.)

To conclude, Porsche wins and gets at least 2/3rds share of the Podium. Panoz, BMW, and Ferrari (in that order) will battle it out for best of the rest.

see you guys at the track,

EDIT: Just so you don't jump on me I have a couple edits. 1. Panoz (Multimatic) are running the Pirelli, and I see that holding them back. How competitive are those tires? I recieved inside information from Risi Competizione last year (after chilling with them at a couple rounds) that the Pirelli compound THEY were running would get torn up real bad, real quick on the North American circuits (it was the same compound from FIA GT, does that make it different from the North American tire?). What does that entail for other Pirelli runners? Who knows... Panoz might have worked with Pirelli to find a competitive tire. All I know is I've watched all the action, Yesterday, I'm heading to the track now, and I'll be their tommorow and Saturday. P.S. I really like the IMSA GT3 Cup cars and well, everything on track at Sebring. This will be my 8th straight 12 hour and probably 10th in my short life.

Yes I realize Porsche has the best chance of winning the GT2 class and I wasn't trying to take away anything from them by predicting a non-Porsche win. But just like last year, the C6.Rs were heavy favorites and Aston Martin and the other teams knew it. Aston Martin came away with the victory and the ACEMCO Saleen almost took the last podium spot.

Why be conventional? Wouldn't it be boring if I predicted Audi-Porsche-Corvette-Porsche wins in the respective classes?;)

Oh and have fun at the race!

first of all, welcome to GTP fellow Texan. anyhow, I agree with what dougiemeats said, it does get boring. besides, it has not been an all porsche winning streak the last two years and last year at sebring with alex job racing, we saw that even the best cars are suspect to failure, even a porsche.

Awesome! Sebring's this weekend!
However, I just can't see the R10s being challenged for the victory. The competition between the Astons and Corvettes will be excellent. And I really want that new F430 GTC to win GT2.

I expect the P1s to distance themselves from the P2s as they push the car more in the later tests this week.

I was wrong... P2 Porsches qualified in 3rd and 4th positions overall.

Here are the top 3 starting positions for each class:

P1
1. #2 Audi R10
2. #1 Audi R10
3. #20 Dyson Lola

P2
1. #6 Penske Porsche
2. #7 Penske Porsche
3. #33 Barazi Epsilon Courage

GT1
1. #009 Aston Martin DBR9
2. #007 Aston Martin DBR9
3. #4 Corvette C6.R

GT2
1. #50 Multimatic Panoz
2. #62 Rizi Competizione Ferrari
3. #51 Multimatic Panoz

The Aston Martins surprised me there... and it looks like GT2 is going to be a battle!

Damn, Its this weekend isn't it? I can't wait. Those Audi's look like they're gonna dominate but by the looks of it GT2 won't be Porsche dominated as it used to be, which I can't wait to see! Looks like its gonna be a real race there.

Looks like theres going to be a change of competition in all classes. This just will be the best 12 Hours of sebring I've ever seen. Congrats to Multimatic and Risi Competizione.👍

I certainly didn't want to see this:yuck:

That's Peter Kox in the #85 Spyker
now there is absolutely no excuse for that. how do you end up in a predicament like that?:indiff:

That's Evil Knievel climbing out of that Spyker, right after jumping over 24 buses.

The Corvettes C6Rs didn't get pole because they didn't get a good chance to make their choice flying laps, thanks to the red flag. Plus, The extra 121 pounds, and tighter restrictors imposed on them aren't making things easy for them. But, I still say they've got an excellent chance of winning. All it takes is a Little bit of luck.

The R10 is a frickin' beast that can't be stopped, so pray for multiple bang-ups to slow them down for Dyson to have any chance at all.

The rest of the field, I really don't care. But, I admit, this year the rest of the field is looking pretty damn interesting. GT2 looks great and I can't wait to see what Porsche does in P2.

This will be very interesting to watch. I have not placed my bets yet, but I certainly hope that a Non porsche team takes honors in GT2.

and off-topic, ND4SPD and Solid Lifters, Sweet Guitars you guys have on your avatars:tup:
