They did that in 2010 with GT5, after nearly 5 years of development time. For at least 2 years, they said they "could release at any time", but delivered a game that didn't blow me away like previous titles did, It took PD a year before DLC finally came.
We are 6 months into GT6 and more stuff has been added since that time compared to GT5 in this stage of it's life.
I've been through this in a couple of other threads, although possibly not with you.
I don't believe that the volume of what was added to GT5 is significantly different to what has been added to GT6. What's more, I feel that the early updates to GT5 addressed some really key deficiencies with the game, and the early updates to GT6 really haven't.
GT5 updates added features. GT6 updates have added (mostly) content. GT5 needed those extra features. GT6 really didn't need more content, not considering that by almost any measure it's down on features compared to GT5 anyway.
There's still hope, but a distinct feeling that PD are paddling in the wrong direction entirely. The Senna content is unfortunately another example. It's going to be great to have it, but it's unlikely to help fix the deficiencies of the game in any way.
Unless it's a staggeringly fresh take on a career mode, running through the rise of a racing driver to the very highest peaks of motorsport that just happens to parallel a certain famous and tragically deceased driver's career, providing a real challenge to all levels of players, engaging gameplay, and maybe some interesting history on the race series and competitors presented in an interesting and entertaining fashion.
That'd be lovely, but I sort of doubt it.
