Why do you think PD allows the AI cars to ram into us? I'm sure they could have programmed such a thing out, but they chose to allow this to happen, even, dare I say, encouraged it.

I'm always trying to race the cleanest race possible, avoiding the slightest touch of any AI (hard to do since I'm cornering at twice their speed), but they literally act like I've done something to them, ramming me at any chance. Why do you think that is? What about that makes this a better racing game?

Your thoughts?

They like to see me curse when they ding up my 20 million dollar cars.

Because they are tanks in shape of cars.

('Nuff Said)

Basically the cars have weird hit boxes, the AI doesn't realise how long the cars actually are and pit manoeuvres you instead of slotting back in behind. Try and drive your car slowly into a wall in bumper cam and notice how far you are away from it, varies from car to car.

I don't think bumper cam is actually bumper cam, there's another thread on this, the bumper cam is basically the cockpit can with everything removed, there were comparison photos, looked pretty convincing.

Fair point, but the contact boxes still aren't accurate, you can still hit or be hit by another car without it actually touching.

This isn't about the shape or size of the cars guys, the AI is freight-training me on a regular basis.

That is why they are hitting you, they don't know where the boundaries of their cars lie. The AI isn't aggressive at all, just clumsy.

They're dirt stupid, no one's arguing that. I'd just like to know how you never hit them:lol:! To me the worst just after the PITT maneuvers would be we're coming up on a corner, I've got it all planned out to dig under the AI after he apexes the corner, and he all but stops right in the middle of the corner (like he meant for me to pass outside).

I guess what I'm saying is, they are coming up on me so fast that there is no way they could keep from hitting me no matter what size the car is. They simply can't slow down fast enough.

I have already finished the game, so when I race now I just race for fun, and if I touch one of the AI cars more than just an office-secretary love-tap, I re-start the race. Yes, it causes a lot of restarts, and yes, I'm MUCH better at the first 15 corners of the Nur than the last 5 lol.

What I don't get is that this aspect of the game wasn't broken before, so it's almost as if they've done it on purpose. Racing in GT is now almost as bad as racing in Forza. I say "almost" because even beyond the ramming, the AI in Forza is just plain bad. At least in GT, I feel as though I'm being raced by drivers who are trying to win, rather than a bunch of untrained monkeys let loose on the road.

I have to give the AI credit in one way though, I see them go off course every once in a while (like a broken record if you restart the race 15 times, the same car off's in the same place every time), so that's pretty cool.

They made the AI drive on train tracks. If you're in the way, they ram you out of the way.

PD have shown no evidence they can program good AI, basically.

No idea if it actually does what it says but are you talking arcade made with the aggression thing slider set on 10 or career mode?
As DolHaus said
pit manoeuvres you instead of slotting back in behind
is the main issue.
Most other collisions are partly your fault if you make huge lunges up the inside under braking, you need to be alongside before its braking area or it cant react & it may still pit you.
The AI will take the corner as if you are not there especially if avoiding you means it would be forced off track.
Like its driving skills it has very limited avoidance routines but it does try sometimes.
I tested this watching replays, big sweeper at Suzuka for example it will ride the outside kerb to avoid you.
NASCAR is awful to avoid being hit & get an easy win hug the inside line & stay off the AI line down the straights to.

As others have said PD cant be bothered to make a decent AI. Its probably the same one we had in GT4.
You can see this because they are still really slow on the same corners they were in previous games.
I have already decided I wont be buying GT7 because of this recycle everything attitude.

You have to wonder if anybody actually playtests the game after all some of the design team race, they have the GT Academy guys they could use to.
All would go the AI is rough & the race structure is chase the rabbit not fun close racing.

Whats strange is I think they have a fairly good idea of the average driver online time trials are probably pitched about right. 30%-60% get gold but the AI does not drive at this level.
That should be its base level with a slider letting you adjust it to yours.

You may feel that way, but after driving two laps of Brands hatch in 1st place at about 40 mph or so, with the AI braking as soon as they got alongside and just opting to sit behind me instead of driving off, I don't. I did it to prove a point to a friend that GT6's AI doesn't want to win. This current AI really needs to go. I doubt I'll buy another GT until it's changed for the better.

In answer to OP's question - because PD got lazy.

If you don't want the AI to ram you may I suggest doing the Gornergrat League races.
Not sure with the 3rd race but the others the AI will virtualy stop to let you pass on the tighter corners. Often leading to big pile ups as the other AI cars try to avoid everything.

Try Nascar Daytona Race without active steering....

Like the moon landing...

Sebastian Vettel is their leader , he has been ramming since GT5

I have 2 answers to that question...The first is that GT is a japanese game, and Japanese people are very very childish...They think it adds some fun to the game when ramming eachother...

But there is also a different answer to the question...And that is that the AI in generel do not ram YOU...It is YOU who ram into them...I have watched a lot of races from the AI view, and they actually did not ram me, it was either my own fault, or me who rammed them...

BUT it is very hard to avoid it...You only have 3 laps (mostly) to win, AI is extremely slow on steering in, but very fast on the exit, so You mostly overtake them by outbraking them...And at the exact point where You pass them, on the in steering to curves, You feel they ram You as a punishment for outbreaking them...Try look the incident(s) from inside AI...It is You who comes roaring, braking late, and whirls inside them...They get a little chock over You I guess...
