OK guys here is the track poll for the upcoming event. Pick your top 15 choices. Direction where applicable will be decided just prior to each race so don't get stuck just practicing the way you prefer. Practice you ask? Yeah the list of GT race cars we will be using is shown below. I tested them all to within a second or so of each other on a variety of tracks. Don't forget that each person's driving style will work differently from car to car, and different cars are better suited to specific tracks. Also there is a system I have in mind 💡 for choosing which car each person will drive race to race to keep things mixed up. You know I think this could be interesting. Practice all the cars, but don't get stuck in any one manufacturer, mix it up as you practice because they will be mixed up come "Race Day". Have them set up on a favorites list for race day so we can bypass that ritual, (I think?). You probably have most if not all of them already. If not have fun earning the ducats to purchase them. That's about it so without further ado "The Cars"

I got my vote in. Once presented with the full list, I changed my mind in a couple areas from the post I made in the other thread.

I've had enough Suzuka to last for a bit with Prologue.

A question on the cars. Are you saying we will not have a choice of the car we use at a particular track? I was thinking this might be like a huge pick and mix, where everyone gets to use each car once, and can use it at the track they'd like.

Is that not the case?

Just wanting to know how much practice I should be doing. And, I think there should be some level of transparency, since the organizer has a better idea of what will be happening. :p

I feel as though I already have more transparency then I've yet seen, only been to two events though, but I get your point.

I am planning to set the cars up in 5 groups of 3. Then have a qualifying stint prior to starting to determine who picks first. I am thinking of something like everyone comes with a recording of their best 10 lap run in the car of their choice from the list at...say Suzuka East. ( I believe the race in the Japanese Events in Gran Tourismo mode has tire wear so probably that one) I will also hand out the list of tracks chosen, more on this below, when the poll is done in the order they will be run so you can have that info in mind prior to starting the weekend. I don't really like the idea of everyone picking the same car for each race but also realize that there is some disparity between the cars and so am trying to mitigate that with the list. This will be somewhat of an experiment that will help refine the list, how to use it, etc.... Obviously though your choices will become more limited as the weekend goes on as in any Pick & Mix. Basically someone will start the picking from one group, then the next qualifier will pick from a different group and so on. Printed lists will be provided so that everyone can keep track of their car usage. Or you could set up and bring your own with Unicorn and Rainbow bordering. :lol:

Now about track choice. I didn't really think that persons outside the group that have committed to the race weekend would be voting on the tracks we would be using. I guess my bad for not specifying the parameters for the poll. As it stands I think letting the group, Smallhorses, EDK, Radracing, Billyjoebobx, and myself decide which list to use prior to finalizing it will be fine. I will separate out the two for voting on, then set up the order and get it to the pertinent parties after poll closing.

That answers my question just fine, and you'll have to work harder than that to drive me away. :sly:

I just didn't want to go to a lot of trouble to find out which car would work best at which track, only to discover I don't have a choice.

I sounds like I just need a general idea of how the cars perform, and that's probably enough GT4 practice for me, anyhow. :p

On the poll, you'll probably just have to do a little manual work, but as least you'll know the tracks those of us you planned to include voted for. That's the advantage of the public poll.

By the way, STILL no Challenger. It's begun its slow trek west, hopefully it will arrive before this event. :lol:

If you think it has too much advantage over the other cars it could be an added handicap car for slower drivers. What do you guys think?

Just a warning, that XR8 will not be fun to drive for 15 laps. That thing has INSANE tire wear on two of the four tires...which one, you'll have to find out :P

Are you sure that legal? :P Hope you guys have a blast! I'd laugh my tail off if I saw the XR8 at a place like Suzuka or Motegi or Hong Kong with those tight turns :lol:

OK, OK, the XR-8 is not on the list of cars guys.:yuck: Debate it all you want but it didn't make the cut.:indiff:

See below for the complete list. Try some of these at Nurburgring on racing hards and lets see some fast times posted. You should be able to get 3 laps out of them so lap two is your choice one. I have been running 8 laps, a little more than 1/2 a full run for feel, and getting my best times after the second tire change. No third lap coming up so I seem to push it a little harder.

That M3 Beemer is actually a real surprising one, but then I am only about half way through the list as of this posting. Trying to keep it mixed up but am looking forward to running the Astra and seeing how it does. German track German cars, you know how it goes.:)

Thank you my friend. As I said on the phone your opinion is valued and I am glad you spoke up.

Now to a different subject. I just ran the CLK touring car at Nurburgring and spanked off a 6:35.183 on racing hards, last lap of an 8 lap run. Doubt I could have gotten a 3rd lap out of them though because they were fried. Thing pushes heavy and just eats the front tires. Would like to hear from the event participants or others about how they're doing.

I will get the track selection in order of running posted this weekend. A little early I know, but everyone participating has made their choices so we're ready.

I will also post the car list in 5 groups of 3 and fastest to slowest according to what I came up with in testing. If anyone has an opinion they are welcome to post it. :lol: Feed back is always welcome. Not always taken, but welcome none the less. :)
 
OK guys here are the lists. The first one is the tracks in the order we will be running them over the weekend. We came up with a full 13 tracks in agreement, then 8 tracks tied for 14th. I rolled a die and Opera House was the winner. But wait a minute you say, that's only 14. That's right because we will be honoring the series that has been a part of my life for 25 years now, NASCAR, and run Motegi Speedway. Promoters choice.:)

We will run the speedway as it is run traditionally on Sunday morning. Then we will run 12 tracks in the order shown with 2 other exceptions. Nurburgring will be run after lunch on Saturday. I figure we will be warmed up from the mornings races, and rested enough after lunch to take on 2 hours of the high speed insanity that is "The Ring". Yes? Then "Sarthe I" after lunch Sunday for the same reason. After the track list below I will post the Cars in fastest to slowest, and groupings. Have fun practicing, I know I will.

Bathroom Break?? Are you kidding? Man up and make like a real racer! Pee yourself! Or if you like I can have a supply of "Depends" on hand for those imbibers who can't hang. :lol: OK, OK we'll hit a rest stop for a potty break. Just don't give me any of that "Are we there yet?" crap. :)

As for the groups, how I am thinking of using them is to have someone pick a car from one group of their choice as per qualifying etc..., see below. Then the next person in line will pick from the next group down. If the 1st person picks their car from group B, then the 2nd person would pick from Group C and so on until we rotate all the way through and back up to Group A as needed. This way I hope to have everyone in a different car every race. Should be interesting to see if it works out. Kind of like a "Pick and Mix". If it does work it could be used for any 15 cars that are within a few seconds of each other across a variety of tracks. Thinking of a possible group with the '96 C4 Vette in it. Fun car to drive.

For preliminary qualifying please bring a recording of your best lap, in a car of your choice from the list, on Suzuka East. Nice short track, just a long straight with a tech section through the esses. We will then roll a die, yes I said a die (being an old school gamer I have everything from a D4 all the way up to a D20 available), to determine whether we go straight up or inverted. We will also do this at the end of each subsequent race to eliminate any potential "sandbagging".

Direction will also be determined with a die roll. Coin flip, give me a break.:rolleyes:

And finally you're welcome. As I am sure Nick would probably agree it's been fun getting the list hashed out. "Lot and lots of racing!"👍 No prob on the questions, working out something new seems to generate a multitude of them. Helps me figure things out too. Thanks for your interest, and please don't anyone take my razzing to personally. If I didn't like you I wouldn't give you a hard time. Hell I wouldn't give you the time of day!

I don't think they are worried about a bathroom break. It is more of a beer/ale break. Kinda hard to race with one hand on the wheel and a bottle on the other it will messup your downshift. :sly:

I've got that mastered. Keep the beer on the left, you can drive with one wheel on the straights, and still manage to upshift with the paddle. ;)

It's getting rid of the ale I was worried about. So, yes, bathroom break. :lol:
 
Upon looking over the groupings I realized that I had put two of the three German cars in the same group. Easy fix, I also had both Castrol Tom's Supras in the same group. Please note the listing change below and good racing!
