was there any reply from Yamouchi etc?

Do/Can they change it? Or will it stay like this?

It really is destroying every single replay and the overall look in races.....

Man, we need the PS4 soon :)

Kazunori-san said that shadow quality is a problem and he wants to improve it. Only future (updates) will show us how serious he is about that.

Those ugly shadows on my beloved F40 make me feel sick. Do anyone have a tip how to get better shadows in retail GT5? I hope there is some track or limit of opponents or any other combination that can at least make it less painful. :nervous:

Night tracks has perfect shadows. (SSR5, SSR7 etc.)
Tsukuba have great shadows.
City tracks has good shadows.
Tracks with day/night change has worst shadows (especially LeMans)

My take is there is not enough memory (ram or framebuffer) for them. Also They seem to affect frame-rate more than anything (bandwidth issues).

Anyone knows MLAA will help or not? PS3 has weak GPU and you can imagine what was happening with it in 1920x1080@60fps with 2xQAA... And I seriously don't understand why they not drop that ****ing 1080p? Who will need that at such tearing and with those shadows. It will save a lot of framebuffer memory.

This is a strange thread lol.

Im seeing member who have no problem with the poor interior of standard cars moan about shadows lol!

I belong here! I've been crying about replay all yr:(. Really hope Kaz does something soon, ANYTHING! or else....im gonna be really really disappointed lol

Man I remember playing Ayrton Senna super monaco on the sega genesis back on 16bit

never complained about graphics.

Something is wrong with kids these days... whats with the entitlement? its f*ing shadows.. who cares..

I use the Video Noise Reduction (NR) on my Panasonic TV, and I barely even notice any jaggies. If you have that feature, I'd strongly recommend giving it a try.

I do have that "feature" on my Sharp Aquos and it kills the picture's detail. Not to mention that it creates some ghosting effect in motion.

Maybe it's different between the manufacturers. I felt that the picture does lose a little bit of definition, but it's entirely worth it. I haven't had any ghosting that I've noticed.

My take is that they are not going to fix it...

EVER...

👎

If it was something they could fix then they probably would have by now. I can't fault them too much for this. Is there another racing sim out there that does everything better than GT5 (physics AND graphics).

From the discussion about it appears to be a hardware constraint. Thank you to the earlier posters for educating us.

Its not 1920x1080 and a lot of the time its not even 60fps

The shadows are hit and miss, but where they lack, I think the reflections make up for it 10 fold. And we all love photo mode for that.

In my view, unnecessarily sought to 1080P(This generation is too weak for such a resolution, you need to go to too many compromises, it probably would unlock the SONY 8 SPU). I think Sony are also dipped their toes (the desire to promote its new Full HD TV). Besides, I note that GT5P had no problems with shadows environment (a good example is the Eiger Nordwand Track), while GT5 already has, according to me a considerable extent this is due to the dynamic lighting, which is demanding. Generally, the shadows were not the problem at some earlier builds of the game, right before its release, perhaps as they pieced together the various, differing in various builds a whole game, then something went wrong and had to cut the graphic design here and there, yet the time to optimize the code was not.

Most surprising to me that this effect does not perform in GT5 game intro, and what to speak, one gains the correction and the game really much in terms of housing, as seen especially in the intro. Surprise me, because always intro in GT these were various shots of replays, and there is not consistent with this theory.

In terms of Uncharted, Naughty Dog, show that the PS3 is still not 100% used, repeats the story of the PS2, which also was not 100% strike of power, but it's also Naughty Dog has shown perhaps the greatest power of the console, although the series Gran Turismo on the PS2 it was also one of the slickest games on the system. And many believe that the PDs were on a par with ND. Uncharted series evolves, U3 is another strong step forward (especially the physics, volumetric lighting). PS3 does not have libraries DX, and it is both negative (hard to programm), but also a big plus, because these studies are best able to muster a lot of PS3 and they are not restricted. On this generation that we can not say, because binding GT5 has too many extremes, is not as flattering as the time of the PS2. For example, one route they look like taken out of the PS2 in HD, others are mapped so that no racing game can not even stand near them. Another example is the brilliant dynamic lighting and volumetric smoke. On the other hand, those annoying shadows on the block with cars.

But what would not say the PD does a solid piece of work. I hope in the coming months will receive a well-tweaked the route of GT4, and I hope that they will go in the direction of the evolution of dynamic light and changing weather conditions on the following routes. I hope we will see the alternating cycle of day spa and subsequent Premium Cars.

You sir, are the 🤬 ing man. I tried this on my LG and viola! no jaggies at all! I had no clue to even look for a fix from my tv options menu but that totally fixes it for me and the picture quality doesn't seem to suffer. If anything, it looks better all around. 👍👍 I haven't tried yet to see if it affects the smokey tire jaggies or not but either way, I can enjoy my replays far more now. Thanks!

I guess your input lag increases when you turn on the post processing of your TV. Am I right?

I haven't noticed any lag issues at all?

EDIT: Also NR does not seem to affect tire smoke jaggies much if at all.

disregard it is not a perfect lighting engine, with real time day cycle and whether change, it is still the best on the market. Some people said forza4 is pretty much on the same level. It maybe looking almost as good as GT5 on static frames with one of those 24 cars with high details model (yes, only 24 of them, while GT5 got 200). but with no day cycle and whether change, they are still not in the same league.

How can a TV disguise the poor shadows without ruining the rest of the picture?

Presumably we're talking about some sort of anti-aliasing effect, due to a reduction in high-frequency "noise" / details like distinct pixel steps ("jaggies"). It surely won't fix the flickering / indistinct self-shadows, nor the low-res transparency buffer used for particle effects (spray, smoke etc.) It'll also have an effect on the entire picture, so any "noisy" textures or menu objects will get the smoothing treatment, too.

A bit like the way some HD movie releases use noise reduction that causes detail to fade in and out as it moves, e.g. skin, fabric etc.

Shadow detail is memory dependent, not CPU or GPU power. The 256MB of Video ram is already getting hammered with 1080p and reserves for weather effects, skid marks etc... Flat ground shadows are different in most cases as they can be just dark colored polygons.

On a side note I'm not bothered by shadow detail in the slightest.

Yes the PS3 is to old and it has a 256MB ram card wow my computer has a 8GB ram card and its fast so maybe its time for a new console like a PS4 with a bigger ram card like a 4GB one.

Can someone give me an idea what is the best setting for the picture options under the GT5 settings? It is the one with Normal, Flicker Reduction, and Sharpen. I have a 40in LCD 1080P Bravia and am still wondering what the best method to set this on is.
