False. They didn't even release the Box Art yet.

Reviewer: George Jr from New York, NY USA
Just as Hollywood movies are terrible compared to independent films, this piece of rubbish racing title is all flare and no substance. It looks astonishing, but it ends there. Shoddy controls, irritating reflexive turnstyle upending, and jackbumping over-compensation are only the beginnings of the numerous problems with this game. Avoid this one like the plague folks. Just look at the good reviews here! Most are by people who have not yet played this game!

And he has played it I assume?

What a load of crap. I don't think at least 1/2 the people in America played the game. Bulls***. I think he's probably just mad because the old GT style was better in his mind. But then, he's just a reviewer and reviews are subject to agreement and disagreement towards the public.

By the way, a highly-anticipated game released before the 12 Hours of Sebring? Hell no.

he probably has a Xbox with PGR2, and he is jelious of GT4 because the cant have it (probably choose a Xbox over PS2 for christmas)

It's just an idiot looking for attention, and you gave it to him. I've seen similar reviews for GT4 in the past at this web site. Pay it no mind.

And for the people that do have this game (gt4p) (me) explain to the people that dont how incredible and stunning this game really is. Its like having Jenna Jameson in your bed.

Or Anna Kournikova in your bed... looking at her Sprts Illustrated swimsuit shots... holy cow! I'm hooked.

But anyways, when Prince of Persia came out, everyone perceived it as a masterpiece of action game goodness. And let me tell you something. Gran Turismo 4 will not be a racing game. It is a damn-near real life driving sim. And let me tell you something, when people aren't really into racing games, they'd normally say something like "Gran Turismo? Yeah, I heard that game was pretty good." Then depending on your loyalty to GT, you'd either take him to Best Buy or someplace to have him/her play the game, or you'd just drop the conversation altogether. I mean, yeah. GT4 won't be Halo 2. It won't be Half-life 2. It won't be Final Fantasy-freaking 11. But what it is is a racing game that is as legendary as Pole Position. Pole Position was out in the early 80s, and nearly 2 decades later, look where racing games have evolved into. Gran Turismo is the king, and it's only on PS2. Sure, it isn't PGR2, which is more arcade. But I say, well, you have a choice. If you want arcade, go XBOX. Go XBOX while it's still on the bubble. But for the rest of us, GT4 will be the best GT before GT5.

Now, let me tell you why Gran Turismo 4 will get a review 10,000 times better than... what's the reviewer's name? "John, his name is..." "IT DOSEN'T MATTER WHAT HIS NAME IS!" (Thank you, The Rock!) Okay, here I go.

The Gran Turismo craze has been around since 1997 or 1998. During that time, the racing game industry seen all sorts of unique titles. Those include the Pole Position games (and later the failed Pole Position for N64), Ridge Racer, OutRun, the Crusin' Series, the RUSH series, and more. But when Gran Turismo came out, it shown something unprecedented in gaming history. It had beautiful graphics for its time. There were 11 different manufacturers from domestic (domestic as in Japan) brands and other international brands such as Dodge, Chevrolet, or TVR. Gran Turismo 2 added more tracks and a LOT more cars from many manufacturers. It also brought rally racing to the GT franchise, and it worked pretty well, even though not traditional rally on narrow and dangerous roads. Gran Turismo 3 aded more tracks, a few new manufactures, and kicked ass looking good doing it. GT3 was the PS2 debut of the GT series, and it currently is the best in the series. BUt upon GT4's release, the game will be much more promising and beautiful to look at. There will be new physics, more historic cars, more tracks... basically, they want to move on with a total redesign of the GT franchise, and they feel as if they will strike gold. Usually, reinventing a game series takes considerable risks. For example, when the Ford F-150 was re-released in 2003, Ford executives even said that the truck "could determine the future of Ford sales." So when Polyphony Digital releases Gran Turismo 4, it may be as special as meeting a world-famous celebrity, inviting the political leader of your home country (Prime Minister, President, King...) to your house, owning a rare treasure, or meeting a lover in your life that outshines others- a lover who was made just for you and no one else. Gran Turismo 4 will be as "romantic" as anything else in life. While it won't totally change your lifestyle, you'll feel as if it did because it is just so lovely. Personally, I don't think there is not one thing about the game which will disappoint racing game fans. PD will try as hard as they can, and if people look forward to a racing game that outshines others, PD will not break the promises of GT fans worldwide. If you own and love any GT game, you're PD's friend. All PD wants to do is keep the friendship going until death do us part. GT4 will simply be a worldwide marvel. But only as long as there are GT fans to take PD's calling, and answer with a standing ovation.

Heh, maybe I should be a game reviewer... :)

That was beautiful John....hang on while I wipe the tears from my eyes...snif ..snif. :(

Never let it be said that John has nothing to say!

Damn, that was a lot. It was good, though. 👍

I just hope the last part is true.

Johns review of pong

"a lone bat glistens in the empty void of darkest space, black is it's colour, an evil colour. A globe, white, fast it is too, comes towards you, yanking the stick to the right, you bounce it back with all your might, the effect is euphoric, the ball colides with your intergalactic bat, BOOM, Back it goes, like the winter after the summer. Pong ladies and gents is a way of life"

this + about 300000 more words

Please john NEVER review games, game mags are not bible lengh yet.

John may write very long posts, but at least they are always POSITIVE!

Keep it up, John.

I think that I may know what's taking GT4 to be released.

All of the shops have to set up armoured security and Fencing etc as it is going to be too popular for the shops to handle.

Code Kev & CobraGT....Get lost.I can't be bothered even looking at your posts,it's verbal crap, thats why uore on my ignore list. JohnMB01,keep up the good work your posts are always well written and entertaining. If I don't like someone I'll tell it like it is.

I am very honored, P510. I'm not saying it in a sarcastic voice. It's just nice to be appreciated. I love you guys, so I'm in it for as long as I can. Anyhow, I still think a game to be released before Sebring and maybe before Le Mans 2004 is very impossible.

Oh, and about the marks you made against Cobra and Kev, don't worry about it. It's what I call constructive criticism. I'm sure he didn't mean anything derogatory or offensive. Besides, I thought their remarks were more of humorous than offensive. It's like when someone says their idiots at something. The person doesn't put him/her self down, that person knows they are good, just don't want to put themselves down like bullies at school stealing your stuff (happened to me several times).

i could imagine;)

I'm glad that john realised that I was just joking about, I would never just offend someone for no reason. Shame Mr p510 had his head too far up his own ass to realise this. Mr P510, welcome to my stupid list. pffffttt what an idiot.

Well, based on my thread and the posting time, March 18th has come and passed. Tell me how many people in America got the non-Prologue version of GT4? I thought so.

I seen a date in Play magazine that the game was coming in the summer of this year. Since Play is a magazine import from Europe, I don't think America will see GT4 either within summer or early fall.

I'd have to agree.Us Aussies will probably see it winter 2035  :irked:

damn straight. I wish it had the same release date as in the U.S. We get all our games late, we dont even GET TXR3.:(

By the way, the Play magazine I seen had beautiful pictures. I think it also said that Sony is still in negotiations with getting Prologue to America.

Now I know what will probably happen. People will debate their side, whether it is "**** the Prologue! I want GT4 damn you, John!..." or it's "well, I hope Sony does bring Prologue to America." To me, I think of Prologue as a teaser. You know, like when you purchase a big, juicy, meaty steak to one of your friends and you wave across as if he/she were "hypnotized" to it like "mmm... big steak... big steak... must eat big steak..."

So in my view, I think if we can't port Prologue with the proper requirements, I think an Americanized version will do. But as I hear, you can't race against other cars. Some would say that they couldn't care less; the other side saying that it sucks not to race against others in GT4P. But while most of America's racing gamers have GT3, we need at least some kind of demo for GT4.

By the way, before I leave, did I mention from Play that "This will be the final Gran Turismo 4 for PS2?"

Hi again guys,

All this talk about release dates, and they're all different. Correct me if I'm wrong (PLEASE) but isn't it the case that Yamauchi will announce a date of release when he feels it is ready? "It's not ready" is the last thing that I heard he has said.

Side note: I wonder if delays are because of setting up the online structure, I mean, GranTurismo.com has been sold, to who? Also, another delay maybe because of the Exotic cars licence negotiation? Or maybe the HDD implementation?

I feel that all the shops make "expected Release dates" which appear to be based on nothing because all the shops give different release dates. I think that they do this because they HAVE to give a date because they've already pre-sold tons of this game.

Can we make a list of how many different dates (and sources) are current and live?

We've "heard" numerous words saying "delayed" or "pushed back" etc etc. But did PD ever officially release a date? If someone can show me proof that is 1st hand from PD, and not via some sort of gamespot or any other 2nd hand info area, I will be so much more humbly satisfied. I'd like to know where all these dates are coming from, please?

Maximum Respect to you all. This site rules.

N.

So true. I think it's taking ages because it's a bloody big game!

I wouldn't expect it any time soon you guys.
Playstation.com secured a 3rd quarter 2004 release date for GT4 long ago.
EBGames.com's release date used to be May 1st, but I quote their update, "Pre-Order: Ships on 8/31/2004".
No sense dwelling.

Yeah, but Sony are releasing dates as often as new TV's, and this date given by EBGames.com, is based on what? Or are you offering that as the first date given in our new list of different dates?
