"Shokunin" Concept

That's pretty darned typical of Japanese culture though. These are the same people who don't have any insulation or central heating / air conditioning in their homes or apartments because it's not traditional to do so. So they sit under their kotatsu tables in their one heated room all winter and freeze their butts off whenever they get up to do anything.

A kotatsu is a table that either has burning charcoal hidden underneath a safety grate on the floor, or an electric heater hidden underneath the table. One can sleep inside of it because it is so warm it can sweat yourself. In sense, a kotatsu is a disclosed heater that the household residents use, if they're cold they can always go back to it right?

And why assume ethnic values of one's culture be something that is not effective in another society? Let the people of Japan do what they think is best, you have no control over Japanese people and their ways.

Well, this is tedious.
If a company can scan tracks with a laser to get accurate data don't you think it might be a good idea to use said laser and scan your cars?
It's not like the "designers, artisans or whatever you name the guys in charge to model a car" do have to draw a car from scratch. They scan the cars, take picture etc.
I don't what they do with their aquired data but there's a complete branch out there which bases on computer aided design (CAD). Of course the computer doesn't everything alone but it helps, anyone working in that scene knows that.

I'm for sure no genius but this might get an approach to go for.

On the other hand it is astonishing how people defend PD with such a verve, telling the guys criticizing GT they have no clue about what they are talking about. On the other hand those "defenders" do have the same insight as those who want a real game for their real money.

Why don't you stick to facts? Such as advertised DLC, additional tracks and cars, parts of the game still missing(course maker, online features, i'm sure i forgot at least one other point).

What they have proved with GT 6 is that they failed to provide the game to the announced date (come on, you know when your 15th anniversary will happen and how long before you have to start work to match your deadline) and they introduced a new, nearly unique feature: updates which increase the number of bugs already in the game rather than removing them.

I spend 69,- € (94 $, 57 £ or 108 AU$ ) for the Anniversary Edition in the hope, they did a step ahead of GT 5.
I might state they didn't.

I would be in rage mode if i had to spend additional money for a PS3.
And i think with the current experience and behaviour by PD i will think twice before i consider buying GT 7 and a PS 4; you can be sure that i'll wait till the first gamer experiences are available.
And my guess will be that this will not only be me.

Aside from my short and incomplete overview how i see PD i still hope the let live up the game to the expectations they already rised and finally provide the missing parts of the initial game.
I did that. :boggled: I got faith that PD will turn this around. Obviously, I'm new around here....

You seriously think that having to sit at a single table to stay warm in the winter, while the other rooms of the house are the same temperature as it is outside, is no better or worse than having the whole house heated? And where do you get the idea that I think I have control over Japan? I'm just pointing out how they do things.

I'm starting to believe that theory that Japanese videogames (which were once the best in most genres), are being surpassed nowadays because they focus too much on the romantic aspects from the past, and ignore what needs to be done to stay ahead of the game.

The player only sees the end result, not the way it was constructed. And sure there is no denying the premium models are beautifully done by PD, but if it takes ages to do them this way and lot's of precious time is lost which can be used for other aspects, thus the game is riddled with double 'standards', i'd prefer they throw it overboard.

This is possibly a little off topic, but I'd like to see GT7 arrange cars a little differently in the dealerships. Instead of all the miatas and skylines and everything else listed individually, I'd like to see an arrangement where, for example, you go into the mazda dealer, choose the miata, and then you get to choose the year, variant, colour, etc from there.

Thing you ask is not there but you can already use different types of sort when in specific dealership > power , year , model , weight ... Option is on the left ,top of the page :D

I don't think the wording of the article is quite what you guys are making it out to be. The craftsman concept refers to the person designing the car, not the team rendering it in-game.

For instance, there is a car coming in VGT from Bertone, this car is going to be designed by one person from the company; most likely a senior designer who has a ver specific concept in mind. When the design is completed by that ONE person, bertone will then send the design to PD who will have a team work on importing the car.

Also, I don't know where someone got the number 1300 for the employee count at PD, but I can promise you that they have maybe 1/10th of that number. They made a pretty major anouncement a couple years ago when they broke 100 employees, and I seriously doubt that they rocketed from there to a staff that is 30% larger than the one that worked on GTA5.
This is was I said in another thread. Unless I missed something, the statement I read in the news section clearly said this, but everyone is running around with this idea that this is how PD models the cars too.

I don't think we are running around since the contrary was clearly stated in Jordan's article (https://www.gtplanet.net/new-track-vision-gt-x2014-discussed-at-taipei-game-show/)

"One particularly interesting thing revealed in the discussion is Polyphony Digital’s “one person, one car” policy. As the name implies, each car model in Gran Turismo is built from top-to-bottom by a single person, to promote the Japanese concept of “shokunin” – a master craftsman or artisan."

Now this may have been misinterpreted but "each car model in [GT]...by a single person" seems pretty clear cut.

Lol, I must have been speed reading or dreaming then, because you are right. I could have sworn when I first read that news it was in context of the vision gt designers. My wife (a reading teacher) would call that a miscue.

Thanks for the correction.👍

PS How do you erase accidental emoticons like the purple guy hailing in the middle of my last sentence?

Edit: Took him out!

In bottom right hand corner of your post there should be an edit button. Click and just edit away. I am terrible typist and proofreader and have to use it often.

Thanks, I should have clarified that question: I was on my Android Phone and it seems impossible to do it from there. If you put the cursor in front of the emoticon and backspace or highlight it and backspace he does not disappear, he's invincible. Now that I am on my home PC, he was easy to remove.

Sorry for the OT everyone.
