If every car was available in arcade mode, what's the point of having a GT mode?

Can you customize a car in arcade mode? No.
Can you tune a car in arcade mode? No.
Can you use cars in arcade mode for leaderboards? No.

Again, Forza has this feature and the career mode in that game is anything but pointless. And if I want a specific type of race, like 4WD cars only, arcade mode will not give me that but career mode will.

That's not what GT's all about.

I voted no from a personal standpoint, but don't care.

Coming from someone who hasn't gotten any cars worth over 10 million credits (except one or two possibly) and will love to get that Alfa.
Re-vote.

The GT players who only have a little bit of time to play would benefit from this. I vote Yes.

If GT Mode was made pointless by having all cars available elsewhere, what is the point of GT Mode? It is only fun when you're forced to play it? If so, it should be deleted and never brought back.

That's actually a pretty good test for the validity of a feature/mode. If there is some other way to achieve something (like using cars), and everyone prefers the other method (all cars always available) the old method (GT Mode) is worthless.

So since GT Mode is apparently pointless, why have it instead of a completely open game?

I miss the progressive leveling system in GT3, where the cars were already there, but you had to complete a set of races on three difficulties to use them.

I think that the idea in the OP is good, but I don't exactly want arcade mode to be littered with limitless clones of cars that already exist.

In fact, if anything, I'm surprised that not a single standard car was included on the recommended list. Even some of those that cannot be purchased, no less.

Believe it or not, there are leaderboards in GT5. They are tucked away in the section marked "Temporary Competitions for De-tuned 2J and GSX/R Drivers."
I think everyone should have to use the same car on Seasonal Time Trials. =/

I think that's the main point. Spare time is rare for me and I'm sure many others. I have nothing against GT Mode, just don't have the time to earn enough credits to get the car's I want to drive. I spent weeks B-specing while I was at work to get the F2007 and although I wasn't playing it, I still found it incredibly annoying.

Not to mention the asinine Used Car Dealership where even if I have the credits, I probably won't be able to buy the car I want. So enjoyable

I voted No because I think cars should be available to drive in arcade only once bought or won in GTLife. It makes trying out a new car more fun if you haven't tried it before. There wasn't an option for my choice in the poll.

That made no sense.

That's quite literally how the current system works

How about a compromise, where all the cars would be available in Arcade Mode, but only after you've unlocked them, sort of like GT3.

I don't know any game where everything is available from the start.
(keeping in mind I only play games on the PS3)
You allways have to unlock things is some way.

In GT5 you buy the car set it as favorite, than you can use it in Arcade mode.

Personally I don't think this a problem.

Have just re read and it makes perfect sense to me.

Which bit didn't make sense?

What I'm saying is only cars won in the game should automatically be seen in arcade now. It works okish now except there are too many cars available at the start and then not enough once you have hundreds of cars in the garage.

Now imagine you don't have an internet connection for a while or the servers are down again. That means no online racing and seasonals. If you've accomplished most or all of everything in A-spec and B-spec your practically stuck racing the AI in arcade mode and can only select from 100 of your cars. If your a veteran of the game with hundreds of cars this would be severely limiting wouldn't you agree?

And if every game deleted your saves after 10 minutes, then it would be OK, because that would just be how games work?

If you want to see games that avoid pointless unlocks, see computer sims.

Which is totally unnecessary, wastes time, and cheapens the enjoyment

Many do.

There is no reason to compromise, one side won't even be affected by this change. However, there is a better "compromise" than what you suggested. Divide GT between traditional mode and open mode. The former is as GT5. The latter features GT Mode, Online, and arcade with all cars unlocked, fully customizable, and fully tunable for unlimited use. Everyone is happy.

I rarely play online and use Arcade quite often.
100 cars in my favorites is more then enough.

It's not a lot of work to remove or add cars to your favorites.

Like I said I only play games on PS3.

If your worried about wasting time I don't think you should be playing video games at all.

Well actually, it isn't - there are all the default arcade cars in arcade mode that you don't need to unlock. I was refering to them.

Personally I would like to see no cars in arcade mode until you're got it in GTLife. So even better would be an option to turn on or off "you drive what you earn". That would then keep most people happy.

Unlocking stuff keeps you striving for more in the game.

I have all but one of the standard cars in the game and I would like to easily be able to use all of them instantly, but PD menu/game designs don't really do much "instantly" 💡

It remains completely unnecessary however.

And why is that?

It's the closest thing we have to an event creator.

I think in concept, Arcade Mode has far more potential than GT Mode, however it is very poorly implemented. People just dislike it because of the name, which is silly.

I suggest you try it. The "AI" of the Computer controlled cars is excellent. They actually keep fighting. Much better than in A Spec mode. The races are much, much more fun and more of a challenge. It's the next best thing to driving against humans online.

Playing video games is (let's face it) a waste of time.
It's not constructive or useful in any way.

Way off. I enjoy games when they aren't designed to bore you, so they are no where close to a waste of time.

They also happen to be good at developing hand-eye coordination and familiarizing oneself with software development.

It is just fun that's it.

I don't see how it's a waste at all. It can be a normal hobby just like anything else, if you moderate your time with it.

They should have tied it in with license test. Unlock certain class cars in arcade mode as you advance with golds on the various license test. That would at least give the license test some meaning.

It would be good if they implement this in the next game, only have premium cars, and all either unlockable through GT mode in terms of levels or unlocked from the outset and also fixed leaderboards to go with it, something like GT5 Prologue and GT4.

So, anything that's fun is a waste of time?

Ok here is another angle, you've played GT5 and driven most or all of the cars & tracks. Now GT6 comes along, most of the same cars and tracks are there + some new ones, what happens to your 'rewarding to unlock' and 'more fun to try for the first time in A-Spec' arguments?

Why do we have a career mode then, if we have tried most of the cars already? I find it fun restarting the career mode as do a lot of other people. It's fun because the level of progression there is when buying cars. A bunch of casuals get annoyed that it has to be that way, should we care what they say even though THAT really is what GT has been about since the beginning? Don't even bring up seasonal events. First of all, the easy cash could be possible because of the casuals or because of the people with not enough time to get the cars they want. And GT5's the only game where it's been this easy to gain credits. This thread refers to what we want, not in GT5, but in the series.

So, anything that's fun is a waste of time?
Everything is a waste of time. If I hate working, a job is a waste of time, while playing video games isn't. If anything though, driving simulator-type games aren't as big of a waste as playing a first person shooter. Ryan Reynolds said something like he thinks gaming is a waste of time. He's someone that doesn't play them. Screw him. Obviously, Gejabo wouldn't have the same mindset, unless he only has a PS3 for GT5, then it is possible. If that's the case, screw him. jk
