I don't see the point of a talking navigator in video games. In real life, you get one chance through each bit of road (with some exceptions depending on the event), but in video games you have the ability to run through each stage repetitively, eventually learning the road just as you would on a circuit.
It may be a fun novelty for some, but it's not necessary just because GT5 will have a WRC license. If GT5 really did need some sort of navigation, directional arrows would do the job just as well, if not better than a talking navigator.

Not on ordinary circuits, of course not, but if we have real rally stages in the game then having a co-driver is a must.

Novelty? Directional arrows? :ouch: Yes, it is a necessary feature if PD wants to do real justice to rally racing this time around.

Could you explain why you believe it's a must if PD want to do real justice to rally racing? As I said before, I just don't see why it's a necessity if we're able to run each stage repetitively, unlike in real life. Also, I wasn't referring to directional arrows as a novelty, rather as an alternative.

Gran Turismo is supposed to be a simulator right? And in real-life every rally driver has a navigator delivering the pacenotes. It is a must if PD don't want to do a half-assed job at the rally portion of their game again. Of course, if we do have the same pathetic driving-around-in-circles rally courses again in GT5, then I suppose we won't need a co-driver either. :grumpy:
 
very yes, a definite must for rally stages, go and play any rally game without the co-driver and see how long you last before you hit a tree.

also, it would be nice to be talked around a lap by a professional in a practice lap, maybe make it worth paying the 50 creds you had to pay in GT4, something you can do at most trackdays.

Ignorant? I thought this was a forum, where I'm quite entitled to my own opinion. You don't have to agree with it nor do you have to argue my opinion and make me look as if I'm completly stupid. 👎 I think YOU are the one who took it personally. Otherwise you wouldn't be saying things like you have said. Not rocket science is it?
 
If GT5 goes to a similar extent to Richard Burns Rally then a talking navigator is very necessary, you often have to take in information (corners, dips, cautions) multiple corners in advance, definitely not a novelty. Something I highly doubt though (GT5 introducing RBR style rally) so it probably wont be a problem.

Yeah, I must admit I was wrong about it not being necessary for rally games in general. But I do think if GT5's rally stages only go to the extent of a few minutes long, then it may not be necessary as it'll be relatively easy to learn the layouts. But if it goes to the extent of rally simulators such as Richard Burns Rally (which I doubt), then that's probably another story.

But that's the thing isn't it? If they were that easy to learn in real-life then rally drivers wouldn't need any pacenotes either. You shouldn't be able to learn and master the stage just in one or two tries. IMO, that'd be almost as bad as the lame rally courses found in GT4! :nervous:
 
It's not a bad thing its quite standard and quite necessary, only on Point to Point, i dont need a co-driver for Smokey Mountain! If some people think they can run a point to point rally stage without pacenotes id like to see a video of them trying, irl or virtual.

But try playing Richard Burns Rally with NO pacenotes it will be a long day, many grunts and red-outs and black outs and mechanical failures.

i like the course guide on GT:5P it would be nice to have an extension of that, and be talked around on practice laps, maybe a training mode, so you have the ideal racing line, and a guy telling you where to start braking, when to turn in, how the car might react to a bump/off camber turn.

it wouldn't detract from realism, because you can go to lots of tracks and pay some money to have a driver teach you the fastest way around it.

(all you people screaming for a female nav, it's a voice, not a virtual women, you are on the internet, find fap material elsewhere)
 
Sure, why not for the people who want to use it. But like all the other options discussed here on GTP it should be able to be turned off as well.

If they are going to be true to WRC then sure and there should be an option to turn it off. In regular races i don't that would be necessary, and they(the navigator) seem to be in all rally cars despite the event.
 
4 pages and no one mentioned that we already have the racing line thingy which tells you exactly what to do realtime?? anyhoo, it would be ok as an additional learning tool I suppose(on/off please), and it should be included in rally stages for the sake of authenticity. my 2 cents.

How is a racing line implemented into a Rally track when your sideways half of the time?
 
I thought the rally drivers learned the corners before they race, then the co-driver shouts out the severity of the corners & other objects so you can't forget.In Toca Race Driver 3, you practice the course before you enter the race.

The videos of real rally stages embedded in this thread show that the co-driver provides severity, speed & direction of corners, jumps and dips. I think it's worth it for point to point / rally, but I've also found that while over at a friend's place he found his laps much more consistent if I notified him (i.e. acted as a navigator) ahead of curves on particularly long tracks in other racing games. It'd take a ridiculously long time to get anywhere in GT mode - if for practically every race you practiced it (even if you didn't have to).

It seems that now GT5 will have a course creator and allow point-to-point and closed loop circuits to be generated there will be effectively an infinite number of tracks in addition to the standard 70+ unique variations. With this level of variety on offer, I'd have really expected advance notification of turns / layout to be more welcome by fans! Ah well, everyone has an opinion!

You clearly confuse a rally navigator ( the guy reading pace notes sitting next to the driver ) with a sat-nav system.:lol:
We're getting a navigator as the rally tracks will be randomly created so there's no way of knowing how the track unfolds beforehand so you have to rely on what the navigator tells you, just like it is in real life rally.
 
In what way did i confuse a rally co-driver with a sat-nav? I said a rally stage (i meant co-driver) is fine by me. But a sat-nav isn't. I know the difference between the two, that's pretty obvious...but the way the title read (imo) meant it could be either :p
 
Edit, okay, looking back it could perhaps mean what you said so my apology, although you have to agree that it was slightly confusing to bring up sat nav as that clearly hasn't a place ( yet? ) in GT.;)

ok whatever, pointless debate really. So i misread the content...Oh no!! :scared:
And just so you know i do know the difference...i just misread it...obviously a sat-nav would only make sense in a sandbox game...hense why when i thought it meant sat-nav i said no to it.
 
With courses being randomly generated, I'd prefer to have a navigator. Gender? Who cares really so long as I can hear the calls clearly.
