Should I stop driving with the 3rd person view?

I realized I'm not as fast as some people when racing online. My lines are good, but something is making me slow. I always end up in 2nd or 3rd place often and I've been playing this game for a while. There are some pretty elite drivers out there, but I'm not there yet. Is the behind the car camera angle to blame? If anyone uses this view, please offer some imput on the matter. Much appreciated.

Probably. It definitely makes you slower. I use cockpit for normal driving, and bumper for standards or if I need to make a really fast hotlap.

Those are the views I use. You hit the Apex much easier with those views

It's kinda different for everyone... I'm using the behind car cam all the time since GT2 and it's the best option for me (fastest times ). I'm getting about same times (maybe a bit slower) with... erm, i don't know how to call it, 1st person view? Where you can see only road, but no car's hood.
With every other view i'm uber slow, worst would be a cockpit view, i absolutely can't drive a car with that view. And yeah, i do have a car in the real life (for the people who claims that only the people who don't drive a car in the real life can't use it).
But, for example, of my friends just can't use 3rd person view at all, he can't turn, using brakes too early or too late and so on.
So i suppose you may try to drive a some car on your "best track" a few times with every view and check which view gets you the best time.

P.S.
I just drive it with 3rd person view cam and don't really care if i'm slower than someone, i won't force myself to use a view that i don't like, just to be a 1sec faster... Who cares, it's just a game.

It might be giving you less feedback then other views. The cockpit and bumper views provide a lot of visual information on how your car is pitching and rolling, and the cockpit view provides good information on when you are breaking traction by the way the camera shakes. You may be driving less smoothly in third person since you can't see the movements as well and improve your technique to push your car harder. Honestly, you should be able to drive well in any view you feel most comfortable in.

I've never seen anybody play in 3rd person that knows how to race.

I use the bonnet view, otherwise I'm miles behind.

bumper cam for me except for really flat tracks then I use the hood cam. It's a bit higher and let's me see the upcoming corner better. I like the behind cam for drifting though.

I switch between 3rd person view and dash view with premium cars. For standard cars I just use 3rd person. I don't like the others.

I wouldn't call myself an elite driver, but I'm fairly good. I use 3rd person view, it simply makes me faster, and more importantly cleaner. It might not in your case, but it isn't a general rule that it's slower.

I use 3rd person when the race starts out so I'm not Bogarting someone into the wall or the grass, then I switch to roof cam the rest of the race. I rarely use magic carpet view because you just don;t get the spacial awareness that you get when you drive a car in real life.

I agree with this totally, people can't say you are slower just because you use chase cam. I use it and always have and I get by ok with it.

The only time i used 3rd person view was when i did the Sebastian Vettel X1 Challenge. That was the only way i could do those events.

When i was younger i always used the chase cam(3rd person) for all GT titles, but now i always use the bumper cam.Sometimes i'll use cockpit view for track days at the ring online.

I don't see a problem with using this view.If this is what you are most comfortable with then keep using it.

*edit*

Also a lot of guys are very fast online.I thought i was fast when i went online one day,but then i stood corrected.

Only time I used 3rd person was with the d-pad on the PS3 controller. But with the wheel it just screws me up since I feel like I should be inside the car and have those kinds of responses visually (I obviously wasn't very good at cruisin' USA in the arcade). I think the first-person view without the cockpit or hood is easiest to get lines right and whatnot, but I prefer cockpit for realistic challenge. I even look left and right occasionally, when neck and neck on a straight away.

Sometimes on license or special challenges I end up in the "standard" cockpit view (what I consider cheating for me, since I can practically see where the tires would touch the road). It helps me get better times but visually it makes my eyeballs flaccid :(

3rd-person view and a Dualshock for me! It's gotten the job done since GT2, so why change? :)

The 3rd person view in gt5 is the best in the GT series to date but will never be as fast as in car imo

Bumper view for the fast laps.
Dash view for the fun laps.
3rd view for burnouts and donuts.

sounds right but I'll add one more

-hood view for drifting

These, and 3rd view also for Damage Runs (I haven't really seen the damage physics in this game - I only got it a week ago and my sister's hogging the PS3 - even though it's mine :dunce:)

At the end of the day its what you feel comfortable with and bugger what anyone else thinks. That doesn't mean people don't have good views or opinions though, they're just different to yours.
I started out playing GT 1,2 and 3 with the 3rd person view, than in GT4 started to use the bumper cam, and for a while I was a lot slower but as I got used to the different perspective I gained the speed that I lost and even got quicker. Now I only use cockpit for the Premiums and Bumper for the standards. I'm probably faster with the bumper in the Premiums too but like the sense of reality and immersion that comes with the cockpit. Try adjusting the view between Normal Narrow and Narrower as some cockpits are to wide open. The biggest problem is you aren't getting fed the peripheral vision you normally would, that's why 3rd person is simple to pick up.

Correct answer for this thread: drive however you want to. If you are worried about your overall speed then yes, it is probably to your advantage to switch to say, the bumper cam as it's easier to hit braking points and apexes. But don't feel that you have to switch just because of a condescending few.

You haven't met me then.

I use the 3rd person view because it shows tire smoke, and it shows body roll, and is the best view to drive with IMO. It's harder to be quick, but if your good, the 3rd person view will probably make you the quickest. This is my conclusion on the matter.

Ive always used 3rd person view mainly because i like to admire the cars 👍 no point in making them lok good if you cant see them ;)

For me it really depends. On some license tests I couldn't be near gold with 1st person view and it was a piece of cake with 3rd person and vice versa!

But in general I drive 1st person view because it feels the fastest and I don't like the cockpit view. In cockpit view it feels like there is no road there or in other words half of the screen is useless.

for me

bumper view is the best
cockpit is a novelty (blocks half the view)
3rd person when i want to check out how my car looks
hood cam (not really worth it to me, bumper is better)
