Should I stop driving with the 3rd person view?

Honestly I can`t imagine using 3rd view. I don`t say you can`t be fast with this cam but I am awful with it. I changed from cockpit to bumper view when I started to use more standard cars.

I use the bonnet view, otherwise I'm miles behind.

Wow, what a statement. Guess you haven't seen anyone who knows how to race then.

There's not much of a difference whether I use chase cam or hood/roof cam, but saying that chase cam makes you a terrible driver who doesn't know how to race... I don't think i need to comment more on that!
 
I drive a car in real life ... And I do not like the cockpit view at all as I don't find it realistic, what I can see in real life and what I see in cockpit view doesn't match up for me.

I personally like to see what the whole of the car is doing, some cars I like to drive with the tail out slightly, so I find it helpful to watch the transition of the weight as the car swings.

To pick up on what tdk said, I'll quote so he doesn't misunderstand me:

Don't talk like you have a clue because it doesn't work for you (Mainly because you clearly don't have a clue) I drive 3rd person and I know how to race ... I have won online many many times and against people who I have seen to be quick, you're probably not that quick yourself.

I myself am not arrogant enough to say any position is better than the other as it depends on personal preference & driving style ... Use whatever you are comfortable and whatever you feel you are faster with ... Before you decide it is the camera view though, try pushing yourself a bit harder & playing with the set up a bit more ... Also make sure your car is similarly tuned to your competitors aswell.
 
I actually use 3rd person view mostly...
I like look at the car, and seeing what the whole car is doing (touching something with it's tail, shifting weight,...) can come in handy.
I can see why bumper view should allow you to do faster laps, as you can aim the car better that way.

If I see I'm heading for an easy, I sometimes like to drive it in cockpit view, for the sake of 'realism'.

I'd there are pros and cons to bumper view and 3rd person view...

I use the 3rd person view because it shows tire smoke, and it shows body roll, and is the best view to drive with IMO. It's harder to be quick, but if your good, the 3rd person view will probably make you the quickest. This is my conclusion on the matter.

Agreed. Its the best view IMO for online battles as you have a much better idea of whats going on around you.
Its got me to the Irish GT Academy finals (2010) and also won me a yellow datsun a few years back (GT4) so it can't be that bad ;)
 
I use 1st person view for fast lap times, cockpit view for fun.
When i'm using 3rd person view i feel like the car is moving so slowly it bothers me.

that sounds crazy . i drive my car inside the car and still feel the body rolling and feel the car in general , for external view i watch replay.
In real life also drive my car inside view , i dont put my head outside the window.
i respect everyone , but i really dont like ppl playin this game with one ds3 , external views , automatic gears and all aids on.
if someone give me the oportunity to ram them down and i will.

sorry but thats the way i am , dont take it personaly.
 
I use bumpercam all the time so I can see my RPMs but what sucks with it is if your trailing and the car ahead of you gets into the grass/dirt in a curve, I screw up.. hahaha...
 
Everybody is different, just because one setup works for you does not mean that it will work for others. I'm sure if I spent enough time playing in 3rd person view I could run similar lap times to what I currently run with the bumper cam. To the original poster if you want to change view I would suggest trying it, but you will have to be patient because you will initially run slower lap times because you will not be used to that setup. Over time you will get better, but I cannot guarantee that you will be able to run lap times that are as fast as you currently run in 3rd person.
 
Bumper or hood cam is best, I only ever use behind the car view to quickly admire my ride now and again
 
I also have always preferred chase view (3rd person). Not only can I admire all the cars on track (including my own), but i can also see more of the road (more of what is coming up next), which helps me get the proper entry speed/angle. I'm sure I could also be fast using the bumper/hood/dash/bonnet/bowtie view if I took the time to get used to it, but it also makes me a little nauseous at times. I need to see more of the track and the general surroundings.

Awesome, I'm not liked by someone I will never meet. WoooHooooo... I use a DS3 and automatic but no aids.

Back on topic:

It is up to the player of the game and what works best for them. I find that 3rd person works for me at the start of a race or dealing with lap traffic. Then it is back to the bumper or hood depending on the car I am using. I'm not a fan of cockpit view. Nobody sits the same way in every car.
 
3rd person view makes the game feel too arcadey like that need for speed rubbish.

I'm curious why the way someone plays a GAME that they paid for bothers you, or makes you dislike them. It doesn't impinge upon your enjoyment in any way.

Myself, I don't like people who don't use capital letters, proper punctuation, or spelling. But, that's the way I am. Don't take it personally.
 
I think using anything other than the 3rd person or cockpit view causes one to become hazardous on the road. Reason being is the lack of rear view mirrors, or overall peripheral perspective on the track. I don't only like using the 3rd person view so I can see tire smoke or body roll, etc, but it allows me to see who's creeping up on the side of me, and behind me. This awareness provides for a cleaner driving experience for all on the track.

Final Verdict is that bumper cam users and hood cam users drive like they own the track because in all honesty, they can't see anything but the road ahead. The mirrors provided in those views don't give the best 360 view like the 3rd person view or cockpit view gives.

Huh? I use bumper cam, and I can still see what's going on around me. If I want to see what's behind me, I use this big thing called a "mirror" that's located at the center top of the screen. If I want to look left or right, I use the "Look Left" or "Look Right" buttons.

It's not as if using the bumper-cam view gets rid of all your mirrors or ability to see where other cars are in relation to you.

Naahhh - for me, the "chase cam" (3rd person) always makes me feel as if I'm trying to drive the car from about 20 feet BEHIND it.

Cockpit view feels too constricted, too claustrophobic. Especially in that horrid GT by Citroen. Seriously, try doing a full race in cockpit view in that thing sometime. I'll be that car you *kinda* see blowing past you with auto trans and bumper-cam. :)
 
The only car I use the behind the car cam is with the Sauber. The hood cam is so short it's distracting. Other than that I use the hood cam or inside the car cam if available. My favorite car to use the steering wheel cam is the Furia. Looks like a jet fighter or something.
 
I dont understand how someone even uses 3rd view. I cant get a good sense of how the car feels in that view. My eyes looking at the car sliding gives different inputs to my brain then a cockpit or bumper view. Always messes me up.

As far as 'knowing whats around you. I never have this issue with cockpit or bumper view. I always know where the other cars are. Sometimes have to use your other senses, like your hearing to avoid cars.

Yes, but that's two more buttons to press while driving, in cockpit view or 3rd person, you don't have to press left or right and it's pretty convenient. I'm just saying it's less hazardous to use those two views instead of the bumper and hood views.

Sure there is a different perception of speed but you can't say bumper view isn't arcade-like either. Considering some cars doesn't have a standard tachometer or rear view mirror yet it becomes standard for all cars using that view.
